There's a chance that Buch won't come back and be what he was a the start of the season. He has a WHIP above 2 and hasn't pitched over 3.1 in either of his starts. We just have no idea what he can come back and be. To me, Doubront is the safer bet. Buchholz may have higher upside, but there's also the risk that he won't be ready and could completely s*** the bed. I think Buchholz could have value in the pen if his stamina doesn't come back.

I'd rather have Doubront start than Buchholz right now. There's no telling what Buchholz will be like when he finally starts a game next weekend. After 3 starts, we might know a little bit, but I'd feel more comfortable if he was in the pen during the first round.

Buchholz coming off an injury might HAVE to start because he needs his work regulated. Put him in the bullpen in October you are committing to him being ready in a moment's notice and on back to back nights. I think Doubront is much better equipped for that workload.

If it's that bad, he should be left off the postseason roster.

Oh that'd be silly. More along the lines that Buchholz is more likely to be a Top 4 starter than Doubront ... Doubront at this time more likely to be a Top 3 reliever on this staff for October. Either way nothing wrong with "too many starters"

Hasn't there been ample talk about Doubront being unable to work out of the BP due to difficulties getting loose on a moment's notice?

I don't know - just speculating about who'd be the best fit there ... too many starters is a good problem to have though definitely.

How is Buchholz more likely to be a top starter right now. He's not exactly mowing down batters during his rehab starts. Until he csn throw 90 pitches and be effective, Doubront is the safer bet. Throwing out Buchholz in a playoff game if he isn't back to 100% is much more silly than starting Doubront.

Buchy Boy pitches again for PawSox tonight.

Will be fun to see how it goes - the linescores don't affect my perception (you never know what he was asked to work on) ... see if he is still throwing free and easy

Well the premise is that he is ready to go for October - if he isn't, this is all moot.

His pitching lines in the rehab starts are neither here nor there. Who knows what he was working on or what the plan was (pitches to throw, not throw).

So glad the Sunday game isn't the ESPN 8pm game!!!

I am too, but I'm not sure how the Dodgers-Reds game gets the slot given the position of the Sox and Yankees in the standings.
