Kimbrel's probably the best closer in baseball over the last few years. But the last time he pitched more than 1.1 innings was early in 2011. You'd think last night would have been the time to try to get 6 outs from him. But they didn't, and now their season's over.

Spinning it to our game last night - obviously wish Koji did not give up the homerun. But he is human, and at least we lost that game with our best guy. Fredi Gonzalez, alas ...

With a travel day on Thursday and facing elimination, it was ridiculously stupid to have a turd like Carpenter on the mound.

Even without the travel day - you blow the wad now, worry about tomorrow later.

LA used Kershaw on short rest, they were serious about ending it that night. Gonzalez with an off day did not take into account the luxury of using Kimbrel for more than 3 outs. Oops.

Very smart move by Mattingly too. With 2 travel days, they had Greinke on full rest for Game 5 ... improved their odds and Greinke going in Game 1 is by no means chopped liver.

If there is a saving grace from the walk off last night was that Koji only threw 5 pitches to lose that game ... no reason he should not be ready for 8th inning duty today, just have to get the game there.

How is it a smart move? Kershaw had never pitched on short rest before, and you never know how he'll react to it the rest of the PO's. Also, had he gone with Nolasco last night and won, he'd have Kershaw-Greinke lined up for games 1-2 in the ALCS. It was an unnecessary gamble.

Calculated risk more than anything - if there is a pitcher to take the training wheels off for - he's the right guy. Chance to go for the kill at home - and with a legitimately terrific safety net if it doesn't work. Got them a small edge against a more or less equal team. With the NLCS starting Friday, it STILL lets them use Greinke-Kershaw on full rest for Games 1 and 2, you just flip the order. It takes the chance to pitch Kershaw 3 times in the NLCS off the table, but I suspect that was never a real option.

The ******* manager gets a head start on his off season.

Well I suppose it's good to know that we're not the only team that has a manager who get a serious brain cramp as Farrell did Monday visa vis Longoria. Gonzales pulled a rock that destroyed his team's chances to make a real run for the roses. We all know David Carpener; he was with us for a short time last season and he stunk like a sewer at high tide. No surprise he gave it away to the Dodgers, but the incredible thing that outstrips all of this is that Fredi had Gambrel ready to pitch two innings if he had chosen to use him. Gambrel has been near unhittable all season; Carpenter's reputation has been as a complete choker. Well that doesn't mean anything to us anyway so I'm not going to worry anymore about it.

The Braves crapped out but what does that mean to us? Only the Red Sox count.

Fred, the Carpenter pitching for the Braves and the one we had last year (Chris Carpenter, no relation to the accomplished STL pitcher) are not the same guy. Also, the name of the Braves closer is Craig Kimbrel.

Fred's mixed up, but the Carpenter pitching for the Braves was also Red Sox property, briefly - he was sent to us by the Jays in the Farrell trade and we waived him.

Very very very briefly. He didn't throw a pitch for the Sox or any of their affiliates.

I don't mess with you man. You realize that right? You are one of the three posters I decided from day one I had to not get on the wrong side of.

The other two are 700hitter and Emmz. I found that you guys were the ones who were the scariest as far as your ability to slice up your fellow poster. :D

Ain't that the truth. I've been addicted to this nonsense for 6 years now. It's put some legit stress on my marriage at times. My wife wonders why I'd rather be doing this than spending time with her.

I do spend time with her, trust me. But she would always like a little more.

Lmao I know the feeling. Girlfriend has to know I love the Red Sox. I need my time for them too. So she could just come over and watch me type on talksox while watching the game. Doesn't make her too happy.

If you find the right girl RSFFL you'll have no trouble along those lines. Of course, if he roots for a different team than you do it will be a challenge to keep peace in the house when the Red Sox and her team plays. My Linda is a big Angels fan since we live in the Los Angeles-Orange County area and that makes me the odd ball to the neighbors for the most part. I hope you will behave better than I do when you're at the game with your future better half. Since the 2008 ALDS my wife refuses to attend any baseball game with me when the Red Sox are playing in it. I guess some of my colleagues on this board could understand.

I know the feeling, but relationships are about compromise. I've found that the trick is that when you have a girlfriend over, still watch the game, but give up Talksox. You can sneak one on your phone in the kitchen/bathroom every now and then.

I could watch baseball all day and never get bored. Posting on talksox makes watching Red Sox games fun to watch. You're right though but I must admit I am addicted to the site.

I have no addiction to this forum. I can give it up anytime I want to give it up. LOL!!

Haha, I don't see myself not posting for a while. I manage to post even though I go to school, try to maintain a social life, and work. It helps that I have a smart phone. If not, I would barely post. I think my co workers see me more than my mom, not even kidding.
