Dempster actually has looked solid today ... clearly the odd man out rotationwise for the playoffs right now - but so far, 4 Ks - one bad pitch really.

What pulls him through when he is not pitching all that great IMO is that the guy never gives up..he never gives in. He keeps trying to work his sequences to hitters and that goes a long long way. there are some guys we know that just throw up their hands and start throwing meatball after meatball. Dempster will make some bad pitches but you can tell that is what they are...bad pitches not white flags going up over the pitchers mound.

The counter argument to the "give Demps the benefit of the doubt, he might be injured" possibility is that unlike where they were with Lackey in 2011, the Sox have options. If he were hurt, you would think the Sox would just put him on the DL and really try to get him right.

Might be one of those cases where it won't get well until the offseason - if it's a core injury of some kind. You could skip a start maybe - that is an option, and Farrell did bump everybody back with the Wright start (and frankly Dempster looks as sharp as he has in a month, although Houston is awful). Whatever is going on - he has battled his butt off, but it has been a slog.

Wow, what a bad night for Carp. Our 5 spot is awful lately.

We have 11 LOB thus far, and 6 are from Carp. Granted people are saying the umps screwed him out of a walk in his first AB. And thankfully we got Cosart to 90 pitches through 5.
