I never wanted Peavy in the first place and I'm happy with the deal. (Mainly on the grounds we didn't give up anything I'd lose sleep over)

The draft pick alone is worth a majority of the cost.

I hate attitudes like this. How can you not be over the moon with the Peavy trade? For all intents and purposes it was a steal by the Sox. You could argue that Texas got ripped off for Garza, depending on how much Mike Olt bounces back, at the very least they paid market value.

Can you honestly say you would have been happier if the Sox dealt Jackie Bradley + prospects for 10 Garza starts instead of Jose Iglesias + junk prospects for 1.5 years of Jake Peavy?

The 'Peavy is always hurt' argument doesn't hold much water here either since Peavy, apparently, has a fixed shoulder and Garza is becoming deputy mayor of the DL.

Good post. I'd also like to point out the 'Peavy is always hurt' argument shouldn't come in to play when we look at him compared to Buch. Peavy went down with broken ribs, right around the same time Buch went down with shoulder bursitis.. Peavy came back from his injury, and Buchholz is still being funny about his sore shoulder.

I don't quite know what the deal is with Buchholz. I'm starting to think he has the J.D. Drew 'I can't play unless I feel 100%' attitude which is just impractical for any athlete, especially ones who play a sport that lasts 162 games + playoffs.

I love Buchholz when he is on the mound, but it's getting ridiculous now. Missing 2+ months over shoulder inflammation? Not only is it annoying me as a fan, but Clay pissed away a very good chance at a Cy Young campaign.

This is silly. All of Buch's problems can be traced back to the ineptitude of the medical staff, who have misdiagnosed every one of his injuries, and he's missed significant time because of it. In this case, it was initially diagnosed a trap problem, he tried to push through it and ended up aggravating what was actually a bursitis issue, which is extremely painful. I wanna see you try and pitch with bursitis. And for the record, JD Drew played banged up an awful lot for the Sox. His problem was that he was ALWAYS hurting somewhere.

The medical staff damn near OD'd him last year. I wouldn't trust them either

I forgot about that. Just to be clear... Is this the 3rd time Buchholz has had medical malpractice from the organization?

Technically I think so. The first two infractions were performed by the former medical staff that was purged over the last year or so.

Yup: That, broken back, and now this.

It makes me wonder how differently his career would have gone with a better medical staff.

Well there's still hope that he can right the ship. He obviously has the talent.

I can definitely understand him not wanting to trust the medical staff given their history, and I'm aware bursitis in the shoulder is painful, but it does seem like it's taking a lot longer than it should

The guy is our ace and was the best pitcher in baseball before he went down. If he wants to take his time, I have no issue with it.

I want to see the Red Sox in a 7 game series this postseason with Buchholz in it. If that doesn't happen, that's when I'll be upset with this situation.

Only one guy is paying attention to his career - so I don't blame him. But obviously the team can use him. I think the length was caused by the setback earlier. At least everybody is on the same page here now on his prognosis.

If Buch did not trust the medical staff then he should have gotten a second medical opinion long before he did. Once he first felt that "pain" or "discomfort" from throwing, that period of continuing to feel pain/discomfort after throwing went on for two and a half weeks. That is the time element in all of this that is really turning out to be time consuming now.

He has just about no choice but to take a day to recover for every day away from serious throwing in order to regain his arm strength. So there is no "choosing" to be done at this point, no decisions to be made. However, he could have saved himself four to five weeks in total had he sought a second opinion and acted upon it back when he suffered the first setback. That setback and Buch's past experience with his back injury is the genesis for his distrust of the opinion offered by the medical staff. There is really no discussion to have at this point. It is a mute point...no choice but to wait it out.

The ship doesn't need to be righted. It needs to stay out of dry dock getting repairs lol

I'm fine with him taking his time at this point but I would really like to see him back pitching by September.
