Workman just pounds the zone. And stays away from the middle. He can command all of his pitches, I think he will be around for a while. Very solid #3/#4

I agree. Hoping he can keep it going, but I'm reserving judgment until September. If he can throw quality starts when its on the line in a pennant race, I think he'll be around for the long haul.

s***... not the guy I want to see traded. Realize you have to give up talent to get talent, but still think he's a guy that could be huge going forward. Hate the idea of giving him up.

Was Workman on anyone's radar earlier this year?

His name was lumped together with guys like Steven Wright and Chris Hernandez far too many times. Deep down, even the homers know that is a bad sign. Yet, he's looking like a real middle of the rotation pitcher right now.

JBJ was just pulled from AAA game
When a guy gets pulled in mid game and it is not for an injury, the deal is usually imminent. If JBJ is involved, it must be a big deal.

If we are trading Jackie Bradley, I have to think we are getting Lee and Young

Lee, Stanton, Sale. Those are probably the only guys on bad teams worth Bradley. Still, I'd rather Bradley than Xander.

Where and when? Wright and Hernandez are a journeyman and a non-prospect. Workman is a young, work-in-progress prospect.

Yep. If we're going all in to get Lee, I'd rather lose JBJ than Bogaerts that's for sure. Still... talented CFs don't exactly grow on trees and JBJ has it in him to be a stud for a long time down the road.

Agree - new reports are out that Phillies will eat a lot of Lee's salary. If so, that allows Sox to resign Ellsbury.

I hate to see JBJ go, but if the Phillies eat cash, I would a little more OK with the deal. But, still, I have serious doubts we can keep Ellsbury even if we make a huge play for him $$ wise.

That's assuming Ells decides to re-sign with the Sox and not someplace else in the off-season. With Boras running his show, I doubt it happens before he tests the water in free agency. Then we're stuck with Victorino in CF or we make another move to shore it up. That's why JBJ in a trade is tough to swallow.

If I had to choose one of the big 3 (Bogaerts/Bradley/Cecchini) to part with, I think I'd choose to part with Bradley. That said the most we should also throw in is one of those RDLR/Owens/Barnes/Ranaudo/Webster arms, and that's only if Philly is eating a lot of money, which as SFF notes, can help us retain Ellsbury to make up for having just traded JBJ. Otherwise it should be JBJ and a few of the 10-20 level prospects. I'd say Workman but he's kind of busy right now.

And if we're trading JBJ for a starter not named Lee then it's automatically a bad trade imo.

Even without Ellsbury and JBJ we'd have Nava/Gomes/Victorino/Carp plus Kalish/Brentz in AAA (not implying they'd be near MLB ready for next season) in addition to a boat load of money and an extra draft pick from Ellsbury. We could be a lot worse off.

And that's assuming JBJ would instantly replicate Ellsbury's stats beginning next season.

I wonder what the OF free agent class is. Isn't Hunter Pence on it?

As much as I like Peavy, Bradley is not the guy you trade for him.

I don't want Peavy, but even if I did I don't think he's worth any of our top 10 prospects. And I don't think Chicago has any other useful pieces to throw in since we already have Thornton, they traded Crain to Tampa, and they are looking to trade Rios to Pittsburgh.

Now I would trade JBJ to Chicago if Sale was coming back...

Choo, Granderson, Ellsbury, Pence.

False alarm? Seems nothing doing with JBJ being pulled early.

False alarm my ass. You dont pull a guy for nothing. Something HAS to be going down.

Out of the four guys you listed (aside from Brentz and Kalish), the only one I ever want to see manning CF is Victorino. Gomes in CF makes me want to hurl just thinking about it. Same for Carp really. Nava isn't horrible, but he's not a CF by any means.

Free agency isn't a horrible move to replace Ells should he leave, but it's a crap shoot and a lot of money will be involved. Not saying I think JBJ should be off-limits, just that there's other considerations in play if we deal him.
