XB has terrific reflexes...probably better than the average ballplayer who already has better reflexes than the average bear.

It is not at all unreasonable for a guy to be more of a see the ball, hit the ball kind of hitter especially early in his career and maybe for a whole career. Certainly makes sense for a young guy that really does not know the pitchers that good yet anyway.

Stephen Drew has hit the DL. Seems like an obvious choice to call up Bogaerts and give him a quick taste of the bigs before the ASB.

Probably not since its a West Coast trip.

I knew it, I knew it. I argued this with a few of you a few days ago, those of you who said it would be a short stay out of the lineup for Drew. ********!!!!!! I saw this coming. He is a DREW. He is injury prone, he is soft, he is a candy ass and he will be out for another two weeks at least. This may be a surprise to some of you, and you know who you are, but this is no surprise to me at all.

Fred, then you wonder why people get on your case. The fact that Stephen's last name is Drew has nothing to do with whether or not he's A) injured. B ) Genuinely injured.

Yes, it is just a happy coincidence thath they both have such delicate vaginas.;)

It's hard trying to reason with an insane man. I've found more rewarding hobbies.
I guess that is why you finally gave up talking to yourself.

Doesn't make sense to call up Bogaerts when he's slumping.

Often times a vote of confidence will pull a player out of a slump, not to mention getting him around guys like Ortiz, Pedroia, et all.

Calling him up will be telling him 'hey we know you're better than what you've done so far in AAA, come up here and show what you can do'. Not a bad idea at all IMO

This is the big leagues, these wins matter. You don't promote a struggling player to pump his tires.

Pretty much. I've never heard of a team promoting a struggling player for that reason. That's crazy talk.

I'm not saying they do it for that reason, I'm saying they don't let it be a deterrent.

And Brandon Snyder says hi.

How is Brandon Snyder a pertinent example? He was called up because of an immediate, unexpected need.

Whereas Xander would be brought up for shits and giggles.

Well some of you were telling me that Drew was not going to be out for long......and you and they were wrong!!!! I said he would be out at least two weeks and I was right. For that I don't give a s*** if you and a couple of others get on my case as long as I'm proven right. That's a fact. Besides, those who get on my case as you put it are few in number and the ones that count like 700, Sox Sport, iortiz and others don't do it. Those that do aren't friends of mine anyway like the one who was trying to stir up personal crap a couple of days ago. Being right trumps all else and Drew is not going to be in the lineup for he duration of his stint on the DL and maybe not when he gets off it either. He has become very injury prone the last few years and he IS a Drew.

Right you are SR---and we seem to be doing very well with the people we currently have in the lineup. Let's not spoil that chemistry. OTOH, I would like to see another reliever or two.

Yes, that does appear to be your argument. He's hitting .234 in AAA right now and Brandon Snyder has a .895 OPS in the majors, but you want to call up Bogaerts for psychological reasons.

Fred, you're old enough to not be this immature. That's all i'll say about that.

If you take the sky is falling position 100% of the time, you're bound to be right every once in a while. Your argument that Drew would be out long because his brother is JD Drew is just as ignorant now as it was when you first made it. And the fact that you're excited that Drew is injured just speaks to what a terrible "fan" you are.

Bogaerts played 3B the other night. I wouldn't be surprised if he's our everyday 3B when the season is over. Middlebrooks is making a case to be called back up, too.

It's always good to have competition, if Snyder continues to hit well his hat could be thrown in to the ring as well. The only tough part will be finding both Middlebrooks and Bogaerts playing time at third base at AAA. Middlebrooks will eventually have to be called back up so Bogearts can get steady reps. And then the competition will be on. Both players will probably be on the roster in September, and whoever's playing better will probably get playing time.

OK, I'll end it too. This is no time for arguments or any type of recriminations at all. The team is doing well and we should all be happy, though truth be told, I'm still not sure if this is all for real or whether we are coming back down to earth. Last night might have given a shove in the former direction, and now I have to decide whether to go to tonight's game or tomorrow's. As for getting on anyone's case, it's part of the game on this board. This is one tough neighborhood.

Just curious Fred - why would you think we would be coming down to earth? Went 17-11 in the toughest month on our schedule, and have gone 4-0 in July, so 21-11 (.656 baseball) in our past 32 games. Not to mention we've done this with A. Buchholz making a total of 2 starts and B. Lester throwing to a 6.37 ERA. Now, Buchholz is getting healthy and Lester has started to turn things around over his past couple starts (3.21 era over past 2 starts).

If anything, I would think that the past month has been a coming out party showing that this team is for real rather than them coming down to earth.

As for Bogaerts, he seems to be in a bit of a rut in his transition to AAA but I have no doubt that he will get out of it very soon. I still think he makes a mid-August debut

Also Fred - go to tomorrow's game. Lackey vs Weaver, much better pitching match up

I'm no more excited about Drew being out than you are SR so cut the crap. When I said a earlier in the week that I expected him to be out for a lot more than a couple of games, instead of just saying you thought otherwise, some of you decided to rip me for my prediction. When you get personal with me for what I predict you're damn right I'm going to revisit the issue and remind you and others of it. I also insist that Stephen Drew has become injury prone lately and stick by that belief. I'm reminded that the Arizona D'Backs called him out and said the same thing about him when he lolly-gagged and refused to play even after the medical staff cleared him completely healed from his ankle injury, and for the record I hope when he does come back he tears up the league. What's aggravating is that when he start to get hot at the plate some setback forces him out. Hell, if he can help the team I will cheer as loud for him as anyone else. Now let's put this to rest.

SFF--I don't know if we will be coming down to earth but you have to admit we are playing some outstanding baseball. When I think of the collapse of 2011 and last year's train wreck I keep wondering if and when the other show will drop. How can a team so crappy one season be so resilient and commanding the next? Oh yes, there are some new faces and they are performing terrifically, but we also have some of the old cast members too and all I can come up with is that people like Victorino, Napoli, Gomes, Koji and the rest of the new crew have injected this team with a competitive fire that is almost hard to believe. Let me put it this way Forsyth----this team looks like is has terrific chemistry and they know how to win. Let's just see them keep it up.
