They're all over the place with reporting his injury. Initially, it was AC joint pain. That's superior to the shoulder capsule. Then it was bursitis, which is lateral. Now they're talking about trapezius pain, which is posterior. There is only on thing with attachments superior (supraspinatus), lateral (infraspinatus is closest to the deltoid bursa), and posterior (teres minor) and that's the cuff.

How does the labrum relate to all of that? When I was in HS, I had a partially torn cuff and a torn labrum. Not sure if they're always related, or just sometimes, or if it could be a labrum and not a cuff (not that it would be better if it was). Just curious.

As a side note - wouldn't they have seen a torn rotator cuff in their initial MRI's and testing?

Maybe they did not MRI the cuff. But Jeez I don't think I have ever heard of a rotary cuff diagnosis coming in through the back door like this. Hence, I just don't think it is the cuff.....yet.....

Maybe Buchholz should try pitching with the discomfort, and see how it goes. The longer he waits, the longer it will take to get him back to the rotation.

The Sox are going to have to make a decision in the next week and half. At this point no one knows when Buchholtz will be able to pitch again. If the Rays come in next week and their starters out pitch the Sox starters they could leave town in first place. If that happens I can see the Sox targeting a starter before the trade deadline. If the Sox hold their own or gain ground on the Rays they might feel that they have enough to hold them until Buchholtz can come back. They do need another arm in the bullpen though.

Buchholz to see Dr. Andrews tomorrow...

The long overdue second opinion...finally....what is still somewhat disturbing is that it does not seem to be motivated by Buch's desire to get back on the field as much as the Sox running out of patience heading into the deadline.

FWIW, Farrell claims that it's nothing more than a peace of mind visit. Here's hoping.

...and praying. Is Andrews also a shrink?

This is obviously something you're making up jung. Where's the evidence that this is the case?

Yeah hope he start his rehab before the month is over. If it doesn't, he'll going to need more than 2 rehab starts, thus could be September before he is back.

What is the evidence. Buch had 7 weeks to get a second opinion and finally heads to one 7 days before the deadline....PLEASE

As it was, the first report was that Buch was only "considering" a second opinion. After 7 weeks just considering it. Ya' know when it walks like a duck and talks like a duck....most of the time, its a duck!

You made an accusation that someone was making it up when they said Buch was refusing to pitch after it was very clear from his published statements that he was not ready to go out there even though the docs said that he was okay. It is pretty safe to surmise that management is frustrated with how long it is taking him to get back on the mound and that the expalnation is not that management is being cautious with him.

No, no it isn't. What is easy to surmise is the fact that they don't know exactly what's wrong with him. If they're all frustrated about something, it's that. The rest is guesswork. Point me in the general direction of actual evidence to the contrary instead of general assumption and makeshift conclusions.

If Bobby valentine were still here, he might throw Buch under the bus. The normal people in charge will not do that. This duck is quacking and waddling.

......or none of us really know what's going on (and maybe neither do them) and you're just making a very uneducated assumption. Just sayin

Iglesias' bat has turned cold, which is not surprising considering that (a) he was insanely hot and nobody could keep that up, and (B) very few of us thought he'd hit better than like .230 this year anyway. Here is his season breakdown:

First 34 games: .434/.484/.575/1.059, .490 babip

Last 24 games: .227/.266/.239/.505, .267 babip

The question is whether the Sox can live with Iglesias as a .227/.266/.239/.505 hitter the rest of the way, or if that's his true level right now. Obviously it's not the 1.059 ops level, but is it somewhere in-between? Can he be a .250/.300/.350/.650 hitter with a world-class glove? If so, that's a very useful player.

I can live with that kind of production if he's at shortstop. But that would mean we'd need to come up with a third baseman somewhere.

Agreed. And I think they'll muddle through the month of August as best they can, but come September, Bogaerts will be with the big club playing 3b.

Yeah, but there will be a learning curve. I'd at least check the price on third basemen on the trade market.

Like who? Michael Young? .278/.342/.405/.747, 105 ops+

I guess that's a possibility, though his defense stinks and he has no power anymore (7 hr in 389 plate appearances, and just 26 hr in his past 3 seasons). Maybe his price wouldn't be that high (and it shouldn't be). Not sure what else is out there.
