RISP still blows.

Pedroia has had the chances and is just having an awful night. But maybe he'll redeem himself next AB.

Nobody has showed me spray charts and hit charts. They have been referred to and I would fully acknowledge the direction he was headed earlier in his career. I would say that for what power he is likely to show to all fields going forward WMB will end up being penalized by the number of times he just misses the pitch that starts at or below the belt-line and on the outer half but ends up farther out and or lower. I just don't think he is Pedey as a hitter. He may be just as good or even better as he matures....just not the same. Whereas, he gets anything middle in and not only does he seldom miss it...he seldom hits singles either. He crushes those...at least he does now. That was not the case when he came up. Coming up his hitting was fairly evenly dispersed.

In fact if you look at Baseball Analytics there is a chart there and a comment that he is now mostly crushing pitches up or in specifically suggesting that this is how he hits now...not before.

At least we tied the game, although I have a feeling we should be winning by a decent amount at this point since we've put like a dozen people on base in 7 innings and only have 2 runs to show for it.
It's the damn Twins and Vance Worley. With Buch on the mound, we should be trashing these guys.

He hasn't even had a full season in the bigs yet though.

Riiiiight....so those charts Standing Room linked you to in the other thread are fake?

Also, nobody is comparing him to Pedey. The point is you're flat out wrong for stating he can't handle pitches in the outer third of the plate. He's susceptible to a specific pitch, (slider away) but you can't go out and throw a massive generalization saying he can't handle pitches in the outer third and should lay off of them. That is nonsense.

And in his limited time in the bigs, he's hit to the opposite field with power, just like he has throughout his entire time in the minors.

OK, UN, you go to the ESPN site, Bring up WMB's Hot Zones and tell me what you think about the 2012 and 2013 Hot zone data and then the 2013 Hot Zone data by itself.

Miller has really been much better of late. Almost a 180* turn when you consider where he was not too long ago. May have had an attitude adjustment also. Seems more serious about his game although that is obviously a view from afar.

Damn Miller has been looking good as of late

I think with the exception of his 1/3 inning 3 ER outing against Toronto (on Sunday), he's pitched 8 scoreless innings. Those were the only runs he'd given up since his April 21st outing vs. KC.

I already looked at his spray chart. I've seen the hot zones. It's normal for a RHH to have better numbers on pitches in the middle and inner half, specially playing half his games at Fenway. But he has decent numbers (specially power numbers with several HR's and XBH) middle and upper-away.

They got to work harder to score runs. Get men on base. Force runs with walks, steals, bunts, hitting to opposite field...stop trying to hit a HR every time with MOB. It's up to the manager to make stuff happen with MOB.

I thought it would be something like that. So now we really don't like what the data says so we will rationalize it.

Compare it to other RH hitters that should be spraying the ball. See if you like that comparison.

I think we will just have to have another agree to disagree....respectfully though...you're one of the more knowledgable posters here.

This is Minnesota's 4th reliever already so if the game goes to extra's we might have an advantage. Then again with our bullpen it could easily end with a walk off.

Good analysis.

I don't understand the need for Bailey to make a AAA appearance. He could easily come in a middle inning game and face 3 guy and return to his closer role the following day.

The other problem is that a bunch of Minnesota's relievers used to be starters. Granted Duensing is already out of the game. But Perkins is in and Swarzak used to be starters so they can probably go multiple innings out of the pen. Their bullpen seems to be impressive this year.

You knew they would do it this way.....I think there is a Red Sox Manual out there someplace that says this is how WE do it. Not that bad though....Its not like he will have a tough time getting to Boston after making a AAA appearance.

What the hell are you talking about? There's no rationalizing. That is literally what's normal in any hitter. Hitters will pull the ball or hit it up the middle more than they go the other way.

Look at the spray chart:

He hits the ball everywhere. Like Standing Room posted in the other thread, you're quite simply wrong about this, and you're the one who's been rationalizing with armchair scouting for the past week about the subject.
