It's not that surprising for a young fireballer pitching with a new elbow.

His career BB/9 is over 4. I think that's the difference between him being a top of the rotation starter, and being a number 3.

Walks were high in his first couple starts but he's really started to harness his control. 3.76 BB/9 over his past 7 starts. Not great obviously, and you'd like to see a little more control, but certainly an improvement

Here are Jim Bowden's guesses on the chances 20 different pitchers will be traded. This is from ESPN Insider, so I won't print the whole thing.

Yovani Gallardo - Chance he’s traded: 35 percent

Matt Garza - Chance he’s traded: 90 percent

Mark Buehrle - Chance he’s traded: 20 percent

A lot of those pitchers are solid ones. I just don't think they are upgrades over our current options. The only one is Lee.

I am a little confused/concerned about Buchholz. Is his neck bothering him? Is that from the backward tumble in his last start? Is is still his clavicle from sleeping on it funny? Or is there something going on with his shoulder? Have they clarified what is going on with him?

I don't think the Sox ever officially mentioned anything about that tumble. So I think we are left to assume this is still the neck that he slept on funny. I hope he did not end up injuring something else because of the neck.

Oh, I thought they were blaming the neck on the backward somersault. i wonder if it is a pinched nerve situation. Those can take some time to calm down.

Eh, I'm not too enthralled with his success in the NL Central, let alone what it would translate to in the AL East. Then again I haven't watched him play in a while so I don't know what his "eye test" score would be. What's his velocity?

They said its no longer an AC joint (from him sleeping weird) but that now it's his trap muscle that is keeping him from going full effort
That was caused by the awkward play at 1B?

I remember the trap muscle comment but I did not see anything after Don and Eck discussing whether the Sox meant that the trap muscle issue was an extension of the original irritation to the neck or the play at 1st.

No Marcum? Huh....oh he stopped at #4 starters. Now it makes sense.

Haha. That's for you, Pal

In all fairness, he only included trade candidates, and no pitchers that were more likely to be dumped. Those are mostly guys who will cost a mid-range prospect and up.

Gallardo is a guy I would throw some prospects at. 27 years old, consistent 185-200 IP with 200+ Ks

There have to be concerns about Gallardo. His velocity has been trending downward from 92.6 in 2011, to 91.7 in 2012, to 90.6 this year. His K/9 rate is down from 9.0 to 7.1 this year. His ERA is up to 4.41.

The Brewers have a lot of rebuilding to do so he won't come cheaply. He will cost top prospects. Melvin held out for and received Jean Segura and Johnny Hellweg for a little more than two months of Zack Greinke.

Sox are going to have to have a spot starter on Saturday for Buchholz's slot, and from all the reports that I've read, it's between De La Rosa and Webster.

Red Sox vs Tigers, Fox Saturday Night game. Big game to get your feet wet for either pitcher.

I gotta think they're going to give RDLR the start over Webster. RDLR is pitching today, which lines him up perfectly for the start on Saturday, and he's been extremely good in his past 8 starts (1.14 ERA).

Exciting to think about him or Webster coming up.

Will he have been down for 10 days at that point?

No, but that rule goes away if someone (Buch) hits the DL, so he'd be able to be recalled at that point.

Good to know about the DL exception. Thanks!

De La Rosa tough to figure out tonight, walked the stadium. 5.1 IP, 5 K, 5 BB, 2 H, 0 R.

He's going to have to figure out those walks

Like I said, for a power P coming of a major arm surgery accuracy can take some time to recover.

Yup. For anyone coming off TJS, really, it's really the 2nd year that the command returns.

Can't imagine they will go with him over Webster if Clay hit the DL.

Its offical Clay is on the DL, retroactive till July 9th.

As far as trades go this spot start for some of the young guys may give the team a good look if they need to go out a pick anyone up or just call up from the farm. I hope either RDLR or Webster can have a good game and give us some good innings.

Also does anyone think any of the White Sox pitchers will be likely trade candidates with the red sox?

Peavy is hurt, Sale is untouchable, and Danks has a tough contract. So probably not, but who knows.
