Who knows who they might try to deal as they get closer to having to finalize the 40 man roster. There are still guys that are not on the 40 man that are possibilities. Hate to see Ciriaco go if it is him. I do think they know his ceiling though.

I see they cut Overbay rather than pay him $100K. Says he hasn't had a good ST, though he made a nice diving stop yesterday. Looked a bit overweight, though. He's old enough for the Yankee Retirement Home.
The Yankees will sign him by the opening series and he will be playing against us. He will be an upgrade for the Yankees.

Ya that's what I figure too.

I think Ciriaco could start at short for a team with a hole there, or at second for a team with a hole there.

If he's squeezed out if his job in Boston he'll land on his feet somewhere. Too many people need a MIF who can put the bat on the ball. I imagine we could get a pretty solid deal from a team like the Royals (just to pull a name out of a hat) to make Ciriaco their 2B. Second base is one of their weakest positions right now and he would be an instant upgrade.

Anyone else think we could throw Ciriaco into a modest package and pick up Jarrod Dyson coming back the other way? He's a bit of a Gathright, but I'd love to have his speed backing up all 3 outfield posiitions and able to pinch run off the bench. I think he'd be perfect. A Bradley-Ellsbury-Victorino outfield backed up by Jarrod Dyson would be droolworthy levels of speed.

Bats lefty too.

Hmm. I think I have a new pet trade proposal.

Why move Ciriaco? To platoon Iggy and Drew? No...

When Drew comes back, the job is his. Iggy will be hitting .175 and will be optioned to AAA.

A supersub like Pedro is more valuable than having Iggy hang around.

The only way Iggy should be up long term is if he's the fulltime starter.

But if Iglesias and Drew are having an in-season competition for SS, what room does that leave for Ciriaco?

What, you're just going to dump one of Drew and Iglesias regardless of what they're doing, just to keep Ciriaco on the roster, and pretend that ever made sense?

With Brock Holt in the minors along with Drew Sutton we're not lacking for utility men. I have no problem moving Ciriaco in the right deal, and I suspect it'll happen sooner rather than later,b ecause right now Iglesias is going to have incumbancy going for him and the franchise is not going to declare Drew a sunk cost without a single regular season plate appearance. As long as Iglesias is playing strong and Drew is healthy, they're both going to be on the big league roster, whether you think it's a good idea or not.

Sometimes it just works out that way. Hate to lose him, but he'll have a better shot to get the opportunities he deserves somewhere else.

And if there's a shot to swap him for Jarrod Dyson, that becomes "the right deal" pretty quickly, even if we have to sweeten our side of the deal. The sheer speed of that 4 man outfield gets the imagination flowing like nothing.

It's not "dumping" Iggy if you're sending him to Pawtucket.

The only way Iggy provides "in season" competition is if he's hitting .250 when Drew comes back, or is hitting .280 at Pawtucket. Neither scenario is likely imo.

Just to be clear, can we remove Drew Sutton from this discussion? The guy flat out sucks.
Career minor leaguer. Plays all 4 IF positions poorly-- a utility bum.

I wasn't sure that even needed to be discussed. He's not even a AAAA player.

I wouldn't be surprised to see St. Louis show some interest. I wouldn't give him away for anything though. Does he have options left?

Oh and I fully expect the Yanks to sign Overbay.

Overbay just joined the Yankees Retirement Home.

Sox fans can bitch all they want about the state of the team, but a guy that just got cut by the Sox is an upgrade for the Yanks, being a Yankee fan sucks extra hard right now.

They were a playoff team last year, no?

Better than 69 wins.

Another thing i don't understand is people assuming the Red Sox are going to trot out a legendary defense with Salty still being a part of this team. Any help the IF/OF can give the pitching staff would be negated by Salty's unending defensive ineptitude.

What? A complete flame out in the playoffs is supposed to make them feel better about the current team?

I think Salty at most will be catching 3/5 of the rotation. The other guys will be playing(assuming health) almost everyday. While Salty's defensive prowess will hurt to some degree, I don't think it completely negates what defense the others will provide.

How many years have they missed they playoffs since 96?

The joke is on us Sox fans.

Not completely, but significantly, which is my point. Dude's awful.

But my whole point was in this moment right now it sucks being a Yankee fan with the teams situation. Previous playoff appearances don't mean jack crap for this current season. It's March, it's a time for optimism for your team and the season coming up. Yankee fans have pretty much lost that and it's not even April.

Would you take the Yanks roster over the Sox right now just because the Yankees have made the playoffs the last 3 seasons and the Sox have not?

Ells- CF, JBJr. - RF, Xander - LF, WMB- 3b, Iggy - SS, Pedey - 2b. Add a power hitting 1b/DH, maybe a D minded catcher, and thats a great line up. Lets start rooting for the team of the future and see what these guys can do!

Xman needs more time for sure and so do all our young pitching prospects. But Jackie and Iggy EARNED their spots this spring. Let their play dictate where they play!

I know Ells will probably bail, but you never know!

Maybe. They have the best pitcher (of the two teams) and a better staff. They have the best positional player (of the two teams). When Tex and Grandy come back, that team will be humming and just may well leave the Sox in the dust.

True, but it's no longer 2012, is it?

It's not, but the Yankees fans are probably enjoying their team more than we have the past 18 months.

So Mike Napoli isn't a power-hitting 1B/DH? (I know he's on one-year deal, but if he produces they can keep him until his hips give out)
