Just wondering but did anyone else see on MLB Tonight that Justin Upton had Boston as one of the four no trade teams in his clause? Wow that suprises me but oh well let him stay in Arizona and i hope he never returns to MVP type numbers even if he is traded i hope he stays on the DL the rest of his career. Justin who??? He should beg to come to Boston if he dont want us to hell with him!!!

Did you know that he actually had that written into his contract because he knew that you would hate it?

He has Seattle ans Cleveland(two s*** landing spots) and I believe the Yanks and Sox(for $ leverage, not because he won't play there). NTC are used for more things then just keeping you out of a city you don't want to play in these days.

And somehow if Salty plays 1B, I still see him some how effecting the teams ERA

They won't get anywhere next year without a big hitting first baseman. Not with their pitching. As it is right now, if they sign Nap for one year, he'll be playing just 1B--not catching, with his hip concerns.

So they're paying $13 mil for a guy who is barely acceptable at 1B--maybe no better defensively than Gomez--and who has health questions?

It sounds to me they aren't that averse to going into ST with just Gomez, but I don't think that will happen. They'll either sign Nap for a year or trade for Morse or somebody else. They could go with a Garrett Jones/Gomez platoon, but Gomez has shown no pop in Fenway so far. Maybe they'll go with Smoak, though Seattle doesn't show a lot of confidence in him--even with the LF fences in. He is eminently available with Morales traded for.

According to Ken Rosenthal the Red Sox have inquired about Mike Morse. I like this! I like it, I like it a lot. (Dumb and Dumber quote) lol.

Rosenthal made a big pitch for Morse to the Red Sox, and you wonder how much smoke there is there for him to do that.

I just had someone tell me that Morse can play in the OF and 1B, which I have no problem with. Then he went on and said that he can play SS as well, just in case something would happen to Drew. I don't know Morse's height and weight when he was a rookie (when he played 55 games at SS), but I do know that someone weighing 245 pounds currently is not your ideal weight for a SS. Maybe I am the only one, but I though it was funny. I am assuming my buddy did not know how big he is a 6'5, 245.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me why Morse is a good option for this team. People are treating him like he's a superior talent worth trading some decent pieces for. I don't get it.

He has the value related with being a half decent alternative in a market where most of the really good options are gone..

Pretty much. That and he has just as much power potential as Napoli. Nats are looking for a ML LHP for the BP and maybe a couple small pieces. It's not like they would be asking for Bogaerts.

At this point I feel like Morse for a BP arm is better then Napoli and his ticking time bomb hip on a multi year deal. I liked the Napoli deal when I thought he might do a bit of catching as well. Now if he was on the team I want him nowhere near any catchers gear. And for me that rubs a bit of the shine off on a player that wasn't overly shiny to begin with(good not great player, not exactly the guy you build a lineup around, but he def has offensive value).

Yep, Morse is a better risk than Napoli on any deal if he has a bad hip.

Morse had a wrist issue.

Just stating it so someone doesn't think that the people who are pulling for Morse aren't aware or ignoring this fact. Still remains I like an injury ? better on a one year deal then multiple.

My recollection is that he had surgery and missed the beginning of last season. It was a good sign that after he returned he did play the remainder of the season. That might be a good sign that there is no chronic problem. On the good side, he 's cheap salary-wise and on only a one year contract like you said.

Yes, but I'm sure someone was going to bring it up in defense of Napoli since a lot of us are jumping on the hip issue as a reason to move on. Was just getting it out of the way.

Good idea too. Granted, I'd take a wrist injury that someones already had surgery and shown they can play on over a hip issue I know nothing about.

Morse missed the start of last season with a torn lat muscle. The wrist injury was towards the end of this past season, and he has not had surgery on it.

The new news on Napoli is the Sox trying to make it a one year deal with an option for a second based on ABs. Does Napoli have any other options, but to take the Sox deal. You would think if someone else was going to jump in they would have aleady done so. If he does take the deal is he coming to ST pissed off that the Sox FO messed with him. Between the hip thing and this mess that has been going on for weeks the Sox have to walk away from this thing. Maybe BC is keeping it on table as leverage for a trade with another team for a 1B (Morse).

What is all this freakin' fascination with Justin Upton? Two years ago he was benched twice during the season for loafing and a bad attitude. He has underachieved, loafed and is a bad actor. We don't need shitkickers like this on our team. We had too many of that ilk here recently.

The only question is which Upton is the bigger dog.

I agree. The D-Backs are going to ask for too much for a player that has not lived up to his potential.

Morse is a good option for this team for many reasons and one of them is that getting him means we don't have to get stuck with a bum career minor leaguer, power shy, piss poor base running, lousy fielding Mauro Gomez. That's just for a start.

Morse can play both first base and the outfield, is a RH power hitter capable of hitting over 30 home runs for us and will be only 31 next season and could play for us for four or five years. Aside from that I have no idea why he'd be a good option for us. :dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno:

Not at all BSN. Like you I had a long and successful career in coaching baseball teams and as I mentioned to you in one of my posts, I did some bird dog scouting for some of my friends in that profession who liked my ability to judge talent. I think I know a loser or a baseball wasteful when I see one and Gomez fits that role. You don't win with a first baseman like that, and we need someone there who can either hit over 300 with moderate power and field the hell out of that position, or a guy who might not hit for a big average but can pole 30 or more homers and defend adeuately. Gomez can't do any of that and that is why at near 29 he has been a career minor leaguer all his baseball days.

Putting on a Red Sox uniform does not suddenly turn a pumpkin into a prince. We need a good first baseman who can hit and can handle the pressure of a pennant race. Gomez doesn't fit there either and it is muy honest opinion that if he is stationed on first base he will soon be exposed for the poor player he is. W can do better if we want to at least have a winning record this season we had better upgrade at first base......and soon!!!!!!

Morse is only signed theough 2013. Trading any decent chip would be stupid.

It will take either Morales or Miller and maybe 1-2 mid tier prospects. If he has a good season it's likely they get a pick for him. I don't think that's giving up too much. The Sox have the extra pieces to make this work and it shouldn't hurt them short term or long term.

I'd give up Miller and one prospect. I wouldn't trade Morales for Morse.

People are so ready to give up Morales for a guy who really isn't a better player than Napoli and has suffered a lot of injuries. Morales is very important to this team given his ability to start and the lack of health of this rotation in the recent past. I don't see the fascination with Morse.

It was his sweet stroke and trot on the replay homerun...

Actually, Mauro Gomez knocked up his dog, and kicked one of his family members.
