We could put together a team of traded/released Red Sox.

1B Rizzo

2B Scutaro

SS Lowrie

3B Youkilis

C Kottaras

LF Murphy

CF Crisp

RF Reddick

DH Moss

P Masterson

And the only problem I have is Scutaro.

The rest, minus Masterson.....is garbage. Hopefully Beckett and Ortiz make that list next year.

Youk with the go ahead HR today.

I find myself watching more of the White Sox than the Red Sox. At least I'm watching a team with sack. It's difficult to root for a team with no concept of itself. At least we didn't lose today.

Teams talk so much about depth, maintaining a deep 40 man roster where everyone is "quality." The last time we had too much pitching depth we traded Bronson Arroyo-- he's had a pretty decent stint and thrown a few innings for the Reds since we determined he was "expendable." When you have "depth," keep it. It's up to the manager to rotate the lineup and manage the clubhouse-- isn't this what Valentine is supposedly good at?

For all of the media hype over how "unhappy" Youk was, we still won games during that stretch. Sometimes a little tension is good for a team. Immediately upon being handed the wheel at 3b, WMB started booting balls and looking like he was lost at the plate. Then, the hammy. If it was Youk pulling the hammy we'd get on him b/c of his age.

Youk was a class act and now has a chip on his shoulder the size of Bobby V's ego.

those are some quality names ....

except Kottaras is not doing anything for Milwaukee. Crisp/Moss/ wont do much against quality team.

and Rizzo still needs to prove himself.

Youk may well turn out to be a nice add for the WS but Youk would have been far more unruly than Papi has been if the Sox had not moved him. You could make the case that the Sox should have gotten more for him but I don't think they could have kept him.

Certainly he would have been gone for nothing at the end of this year.

If that was the Sox lineup, PG et al would have a field day ranting over and over how the Sox are now the Pirates and will never be above .500 again. No thanks.

It's not like all these guys were home grown players either.

Also why not Hanley and Beltre in the lineup?

You're right...I didn't put much work into that...I figured somebody would come up with some better picks.

If you have depth, you keep it. If you're winning games, let it ride. Youk wasn't a clubhouse problem, only the "fear" that he might be amplified by the wonderful Boston media initiated this trade. Players don't need to "get along," just win.

He was a hobbled old man who wasn't hitting for dick, had no versatility, and was becoming a distraction.

He had to go. No other possible outcome, youk needed to be traded.

He could play first base or third base, and could hit better than Punto if he closed one eye at the plate. I guess you are enjoying watching minor league first baseman, Gomez play third base in the majors. Youk was a good depth option and we are paying him anyway. There was no emergency to send him away. None.

He could play two positions. One of them not very well.

Simple truth is better than complicated BS. You're right 700, there was no need to push this through so quickly. Surely, just having him in the lineup the last ten game would been good for a win or two. The blue collar hate to lose guys are gone. Who are these guys? And why is Nick Punto always batting with men on, two outs, and the game on the line?

I find myself rooting for Papi, Pedroia and a logo.

How would Youkilis have helped them? He was a whiny bitch towards the end. There was no emergency to keep him either, he was awful.

The problem is, that our #1 Starter (hes not an ace, hes #1 by default) pitches like a #5/minor league scrub.

Pitching/Pitching/Pitching.

He's better than Mauro Gomez or Punto with one arm tied behind his back. He would have been nice depth. He was always professional and played hard. I can't knock the guy. I never saw anything from him except full effort and intensity. He would not have hurt us if we kept him until the TD. he might actually have helped. Have you been watching all of the ABs that Punto has been getting? Many of those games have been very close.

Edit: he's hitting .308 with 10 RBI in 39 ABs since he left. That's awful?

Youk hit 199/314/346 after the break in 2011 and 233/315/377 for us this year. 324 PA's or about half a season of abject sucking. How are you supposed to expect him to suddenly catch fire by keeping him around one more month.

HE DIDNT WANT TO BE DEPTH. He wanted to play (at the expense of Gonzalez in RF), which is why he was bitching and moaning to begin with. Stealing at bats from the kid, injury or not was robbery considering that in my mind, they have never had a real shot at winning anything.

He was beyond awful with us, and he was starting to chirp. Time to go.

A lot of times we see eye to eye....but not lately, especially in this thread where it seems you just like to complain......just to complain.

Pitching/Pitching/Pitching.

These are two different issues.

I'll give you the fact that Beckett is disconnected with reality and stinks.

Fact is, we were winning games with Youk on the team. The only "bitch whining" was our manager. Youk was a pro and helped mentor WMB. Bobby V has made so many mistakes handling this team it's impossible to list them all-- but start with going after a proven veteran and winner in Spring Training. Tonight: not moving the runners on a 3-2 pitch with a sidearm sinkerball pitcher in the 8th blew mind mind-- Jeter simply backhanded the ball in left field and threw to third.

I miss players that care about winning.

Then stop watching this year. The team is full of players who dont give a s***.

They have been this way for a couple years now, and next year.....little will change.

So hopeful, though I fear you are right.

Lots of bench guys are unhappy throughout the league and throughout the years. Let them chirp. I'd rather have a guy on the bench who can play and hit than watch Mauro Gomez and Punto. Youk isn't the first veteran to get sat down. If he didn't like it, well, that's too bad for him. Since when does an employer have to make every employee happy? I am not disagreeing to disagree. There was just no rush to get him out of here considering we got nothing in return. I'm not enjoying watching Mauro Gomez and Punto playing third base in the biggest series of the season. Yeah, I would have kept Youk if no one wanted to take his salary. I'd have kept him until there were fist fights in the clubhouse. I wouldn't give away a bat like that if I still had to pay his salary. Maybe that's just me, but we didn't owe Youk a trade, just a big paycheck. Finally, if it became untenable to keep him on the roster, I would have sent him to the NL. You realize that he is going to stick it right up Bobby V's ass when we play them after the All Star break. that should be enjoyable.

It doesn't work like that unfortunately. What good is Youkilis is he's bringing down everyone around him? The clubhouse is already volatile enough.

C'mon guys/gals.

Anyone/Everyone who was bitching about Youk being useless to us can seriously just shut the F right up regardless of how well he does for another team.

I respect Youk, and am thankful for everything he did for us - but he was no longer of any use whatsoever on our roster.

I hope he does well, but I am glad that we parted ways. He will have the off-day where he comes up 'big', but otherwise is meh all-round.

So now they can be calm and peaceful in their losing.:D

I am not glad that he is in the AL and that he will be playing against us after the All Star break. He should have been sent to the NL. i don't care if we got nothing for him. You just wait and see. He is going to wreck us when he faces us.

Many projected that Youk would head to Chicago with a 'prove it ' attitude. Sure, for now he has a fire in his belly and can focus better in the absence of the Red Sox soap opera. A few pundits think this is the time to blow up the Sox, and they should be sellers at the TD. Youk was just a prelude to the whooosh sound we may soon witness.
