Checked it out. Gonzo is at 137. There are many good-but-not-great players in that range IMO. As I said' date=' it all depends on how you define "great".[/quote']

You also need to give him a chance to rebound this year. That's why I didn't account for this year. If he came into this year a great hitter, then far be it from me to say he's not based on 1/2 of a season.

Rally's score runs....rallys can be any combination of hits, walks and sacrifices...they are not single base hits surrounded by nothing even if that base hit happens to be a HR. We have run into teams with real pitching, not fake pitching, not improving pitching, not better than the start of the season pitching but real pitching. Their pitchers are controlling our hitters, our pitchers are not controlling theirs....never mind how few rallies the other team gets....one rally vs no rallies wins.

This ain't that hard to figure out folks.

Youkilis strikes out for the last out. How appropriate.

The season may not be over, but its close. Closer than yesterday.

Our FO has to make a move very very soon.

Meanwhile Agons asleep on first base...that is asinine.

I did not understand that.

Way to be Youk.......

Bunch of thieves.

Wish I could do nothing and get paid for it.

LOL I almost shelled out 200 bucks for the Extra Inning package thing. Whew! Close one.

At this point, why the hell is Youkilis playing???

The guy is absolutely not helping this team win. He's hitting freaking .224 with a .665 OPS, and we're sitting Middlebrooks, who is hitting .305 with a .868 OPS.

f***ing ridiculous. Absolutely inexcusable.

Even if we lose this game we actually win it according to the pythagoran OP + UPS/UZR =OU812 statistic.

So at least we got that going for us. Thank God.

You do realize that no one argues that Pythag records should trump real life results, right? Pythagorean records have a very high correlation with future success. A team that finishes at a record significantly below their Pythagorean record can, with a healthy amount of confidence, be expected to play closer to that record in the following year if they bring back the same roster.

No one has ever argued that results should be altered to fit what more advanced metrics tell us to expect going forward and no one has argued that more advanced metrics can predict the future with 100% accuracy. There are variables at play that are unpredictable which will create a certain amount of inherent variation in the results.

Dismissing a statistical approach because these stats are currently telling us that the Red Sox are better than their 29-32 record is akin to dismissing science because the weather man predicted sun and warm weather for the week and it rained on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

These metrics are proven to have a strong correlation with future performance.

I would like to sincerley thank the poster that has me on ignore for not posting that the game was over before the 8th or 9th. Made the game thread much more pleasant. I don't mind negativity. But in prior threads, saying the game is over when we are down 1-0 in early innings is just ridiculous and juvenile. We're all frustrated. No need to make it worse by piling on.

Thank you.

Someone quote this please. Good night all and let's get 'em tomorrow.
