You can't expect ace innings from your #4/5 starter, especially a virtual rookie. Can't complain about the job that Doubront has done. He has been our best SP this season, and it looks like he's got top of the rotation stuff.

It is so hard to look at what Felix has done and have a complaint. Probably the key to getting a few more ground ball outs would be his use of the breaking ball to left hand hitters. Really everything he does to either side is designed to set guys up. If he is able to get a bit more snap on the breaking ball he should be able to get more left hand hitters to beat that thing into the ground. He does not have much snap on that pitch and it seems to me he is still a bit worried about hanging it. But that should be the pitch that would give him some quicker outs. He will likely always try to set up RH hitters for the K but I would love to see him be able to get more ground outs from the left hand hitters.

Pitch counts are almost always a problem with up and comers because MLB hitters won't chase like AAA hitters, and can spoil good 2 strike pitches that AAA hitters would swing and miss. His pitch counts will go down with experience.

I really think we should be thrilled with what we've gotten from him so far. I said it all during Spring Training, and I'll say it again. Doubront is going to be the Red Sox Ivan Nova this season. He has been excellent so far, and his FIP and xFIP are lower than his ERA, indicating that even as good as he has been, he has been getting a little unlucky and should be a mid 3's ERA guy.

Per espn fantasy news:

Pedroia suffered a jammed right thumb in Monday's game, reports Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald.

Spin: Pedroia owners can breathe a sigh of relief. He left Monday's game after sustaining the injury on a diving play to end the fifth inning. He shouldn't miss much time, if any at all.

How about we compare Doubront to someone who doesn't have a 5+ ERA this year:lol:

I've loved everything I've seen from Doubront. He seems to have the makings of a #3 pitcher. Not quite overpowering stuff, but he has great location and doesn't give up too many long balls. If he stays healthy, I'd bet he has a spot in the rotation for as long as he wants it.

I hope they ask V what the hell Ace was doing in there in the ninth. V will probably come up with some terse...."question my judgement" answer.

Ah come on!! Nova had a 3.70 era and 16 wins for the Yanks last season. Doubront has a 3.86 era and 5 wins in 10 starts this season. I know you were joking, though.

Well now at least we can stop worrying about getting the breaks. Rare to get a whole damn game gift wrapped courtesy of the umps but that is what we got today.

Might turn out to be a nice to have if we can't do anything with Verlander tomorrow.

Pal, I do think he has overpowering stuff. I had heard SRs on him in the minors possessing mid 90s heat, but whenever he came to the bigs, he didnt have it. Now, he is starting to harness it. He has 2 knockout pitches between the heat and the breaking ball. And his change isnt bad either. He is turning into a much better pitcher than any of us thought, and he is getting better. He reminds me a lot of Lester at the beginning, a lefty with powerful stuff but intermittent command. If he keeps harnessing it, he could eventually be a Lester type pitcher

I sure hope he turns out better than Lester. And I don't want to see him getting into the habit of questioning the balls and strikes like Lester does. Just play the game, trust you stuff, and everything will fall into place. And yes, he is having a much better season than I thought.

I am anxious to see how Bard throws tomorrow. He claims to have found something in his bullpen session this week and that he feels like himself again. Does that mean he is going to be throwing 95-96 again? Who knows. We sure could use a big outing from Bard tomorrow against Verlander. Need to score early against him so Bard doesn't feel like he has to be perfect. Easier said than done.

It would make sense, though. The Sox would wait to get over .500 against the best pitcher in baseball

Good win tonight. Yes a little bit of luck involved with a few calls, but I think we have deserved it a little as a lot of things haven't gone our way. Even last night against the Rays with Pedroia being called out at second and evey broken bat hit landed between the in and out field where as ours went straight to an infielder.

Don't care how they come as long as they come. Keep it up and get over the .500 tomorrow!

Rays lost. The only thing that would make this day even better is if the Yankees lost too.

Hughes vs Weaver. Angels have a bit of an advantage there. Plus the Jays play the O's, so we are picking up a game on one of them today.

Sox are now only 4 back in the L column from the Rays, 3 back from the Yanks in the L column.

We're at.500 and Bard is going against Verlander tomorrow. Wer are going nowhere fast.
