I think Ross deserves a slot in the OF--as a Rhd platoon player. Hits lefties well. Certainly over McDonald, who probably will be odd man out at some point.

It's disturbing to hear V talk in contradictory terms--like putting Gonzo in RF at Fenway(he says no to LF--Gonzo is used to flies on the right side!) and saying Youks goes back to 3B. Now who's playing first? I guess he means during interleague play when Papi plays 1B. But what about non-interleague play? The Sox are a slightly dysfunctional team right now--mostly due to bad management. I pity Gonzo having to play RF in Fenway. He'll need a go-cart out there.

Ross is not consistent. Middlebrooks is the future and I'd like to see him here. So far he's been contributing steadily since he was called up. Ross can function well as a backup. It was his original purpose.

The real casualty of everyone coming back is going to be Nava. Ross does Nava's job better than anyone's going to trust Nava to do it so he's probably done at that point despite really being a pretty solid all around LF. If he's lucky they'll find a team to trade him to who's willing to explore his potential, otherwise he becomes another story of the amazing age related catch 22 you run into in pro sports.

There's no Catch 22. If you are good enough, you stick in the majors.

What is it with you and Nava? He's not that good bro. Get over it.

It's his thing. Don't get him started on Gabbard. He loves mediocre prospects.

True enough. I'm never happier when some guy everyone dismissed as a nobody makes a huge impact.

^ has an interesting definition of "huge."

I think it's fair to say Nava has had a huge impact in the 14 games he's played. 14 hits, 10 walks, 9 runs, 11 RBI. These are not huge numbers for 14 games? What do you have to do to get to huge? 1967 Yaz?

We're 10-4 in those games.

Back on track here, Gonzo in RF for away games isnt the end of the world. Gonzo in RF in Fenway is a different story and playing the wall isnt easy either in LF. My guess is you will see the 3 of them in alignment on the road with Youk, AdGon and Willy Middle getting time off for home games

14 games out of 162 is a rather small impact. Are you really crediting Nava with the recent wins?

Not what I said. I said huge impact 'in the 14 games'. And of course I'm not crediting him with 10 wins. One player can never be credited with wins in baseball. I think the 'win share' concept applies though.

Just my 2 cents, and for the record I dont like gonzo in the OF, BUT manny patrolled left field for many yrs out there...... Manram was about as mobile as Timmy Wakefield would of been in LF

Wake came up as an IF and was a good hitter. Bet he would've been fine in LF.

He's not moving oppo field as Bobby said.

Wakefield was a first baseman in the minor leagues, but he never came up to the majors in any role other than as a pitcher.

And he never did hit in the minor leagues. He never hit .200, had an obp of .300, nor had a slugging percentage over .300. He wasn't a hitter.

The last couple of years for us he wasn't a pitcher either. He stayed around just a little too long.
