I think they dropped him from the 40 man roster last year and they had to DFA him to do it. He cleared waivers and was reassigned to Pawtucket. That's why I thought he was out of options.

I think Nava will stick. He and Ross. V likes Nava a lot. And the FO likes high OBP--at least they used to. Nava will probably DH for a few games in place of Papi. Papi hurts his foot trotting around the bases on a HR, and he wants a multi-year contract?

As a personal sidenote, saw a bio last night about "Hello Dolly" Carol Channing.89 and still goin' strong. Her first movie, she played with Clint Eastwood in his first movie. They got to do a kissing scene. He showed up at a party for her recently, and surprised her. He still remembered. :)

He hurt it while hustling to 2nd before the ball went out. He probably thought it was a 2B off the bat and wanted to get into 3rd.

They kept Nava up here so long that they destroyed his trade value. Back 3 weeks ago, he might have been attractive to some teams. When Pods came off the DL, they should have brought him up immediately and moved Nava. Now, he is worthless again.

Other teams see the same thing in Daniel Nava as the Red Sox do. Remember, this is a guy who went undrafted, and played in nothing-leagues for most of his adult life. He still has a great OBP, and hits righties very very well. But it appears that lefthanded numbers have his number.

If the Red Sox trade Ells/Kalish they should definitely keep him. But he just doesn't have it against lefties.

He has hit into that shift more than once of late. He has definitely hit a tough stretch and has come back to earth. However notice that his tumble has coincided with the return of many of the outfielders and much discussion of who will be gone as a consequence. I think he is pressing and that is not helping him either. He is simply not talented enough to overcome some of the things that more talented players can at least to some extent overcome.

This whole "let me hit a dinger" thing seems like a disease and it is particularly bad when a guy like Nava gets it.

The league has'nt seen many .450 OBP's since the days of Teddy Ballgame.

In case people haven't been able to tell' date=' I've been having the time of my life over this.[/quote']

LOL, comparison to Teddy Ballgame.....remember that?

......time of your life? Must be over now that hes back to his old 29 year old minor leaguer self who can't play defense.

His defense has improved greatly since his first call up ( where he was not very good). He has 5 outfield assists and actually rates above average in advanced fielding metrics.

Hes not a prospect. His talent will not change. He is below average. He is what he is.

Manny Ramirez lead all of baseball in OF assists while playing in LF at Fenway. Was he a good LF?

No, Manny wasn't a good fielder and his numbers show it. I said Nava has five outfield assists. But, more importantly his advanced fielding metrics rate him this year as above average. That is something that Manny never did.

Manny Ramiriez's entire career with the redsox his highest rating in a season was below average, usually he rated awful.

Mentioning Manny Ramirez and Daniel Nava in any sort of comparison just blows my mind. They don't belong in the same league.

Nava served his purpose. He did an admirable filling in when the team was decimated by injuries. Since it doesn't look like he could play Rf or Cf don't see a future for him with the Sox. probably wind up with a good tem next year(like Oakland)

Daniel Nava has done well this year. He's not a player who is All-Star material but he is a guy who has made the most of his ability so far and who has filled in well for the Red Sox at a time when injuries have decimated the team.

Hopefully Nava can keep developing and improving.

Nava with 2 hits, 2 RBI and a spectacular game-saving catch. I still like this guy.
I like him too, but he is a bush leaguer. That was some catch. He cost me some Fantasy points on that catch.

I think Nava has probably been my favorite player on the team this year. And yes, I fully realize what a sad and crazy thing that is.

He is an underdog type of guy making it easy to root for him. He has increased his power production this year. It would be funny if he gets busted for PEDs.

Daniel Nava may not be the long term answer, but 36 year-old Scott Podsednik definitely is not the long term answer. For the life of me, I cannot understand why a 90 loss team would be employing an aging/fading guy with a .677 OPS in its line-up.

The Sox should be looking at Nava, Iglesias, Gomez, and all the young players that are viable options for next season and beyond. Podsednik, Loney, Avilas, and others should be on the bench every night so the youngsters can be evaluated over an extended period of time.

For the last time.....

Nava is not young. He will be 30 in spring training next year. 30!!!!!! Can we PLEASE stop calling him such adjectives as "young" and "prospect"??? James Loney, FWIW is 28 years old.

Nava sucks, and always will.
