Now we have Tom Carron' date=' Jim Rice and Matt Stairs dancing around Josh giving a foul mouthed, defiant presser. This guy is holding the organization and it's fans hostage. f*** him and f*** the organization for allowing it.[/quote']

He's giving me freedom, not holding me hostage. Now I can find something better to do when he's pitching.

I love Jim Rice. After the Beckett press conference he said something like "Yeah your off days are off days, but where were you when the team needed you during that 17 inning game, Josh? That's what's important."

I wish they made him the manager. I was supporting Valentine for awhile cause I thought it would be a change they needed but I honestly feel like it's just more of the same. No different than Francona.

What a jerk beckett is

As for V I just expect him to recognize that the issue was not out pitches...Beckett was a train wreck pitch in and pitch out. There would be nothing wrong with saying that. So I have to believe that is not what V saw in which case he is blind.

What would be wrong with saying "Josh did not have it tonight". nothing thats what.

Instead V says most of his pitches were fine but he just could not finish off the hitters...please????

He's got everyone afraid of him. And to have that kind of pull he has to have a few accomplices.

This loss was on Beckett, not the Sox hitters. You cannot expect them to go out and get 8 runs every night. ALL on Beckett.

The point is they are not smart hitters, not tonight...not most nights.

That is something completely independent of Beckett.

No he's a lot different than Francona. The results are worse.

Just talked to Dan Shaughnessy. He was walking right by my condo when I got home from the game. He was actually a really nice guy.
Did you ask him about Beckett?

Beckett won't think so tomorrow. Dan must be licking his chops.

Haha no. I just told him he blows. He was at a restaurant watching the Celtics game, asked me how the Sox game went. 7 runs, 2.1 IP. Didn't even phase him. That's how sad it is. That line is expected.

How embarrassment

Yes, how embarrassment.

This is simply unaceptable. This team is a complete joke.

You'll reach my status soon. When you just no longer expect the team to win, so when they get bombed again like they did tonight, you are no longer upset.

I've learned that life is all about expectations. If you don't expect anything, you won't be disappointed when nothing happens.

The only reason I mention the hitting at all is to point out that this is just not a very good team. Sure the Starting Pitching is likely the weakest part of it and since Starting Pitching is almost everything in baseball, there are not many ways to make up for that. However as I have been saying from before the season started, why anybody expected much from this starting pitching was beyond me. So what are you left with...offense....but you cannot go to the plate just insisting on doing what you want to do cause you are just playing into the pitcher's hands and that is what the Sox hitters do constantly.

It is quite a statement of failure that this team has someone like you at that point by May 10th. You were brimming with enthusiasm only a few weeks ago.

During the offseason I was pretty critical but with little hopes though. Right now, those little hopes are gone. This is becoming embarrassing. I simply do not see how we could turn around. I simply do not. It's a shame SFF.

I just got tired of getting the rug pulled out from underneath me every single game. So, now I just don't expect them to win. And when they don't win, it's not a big deal because I don't expect this team to win. And when they do win, it's exciting.

EDIT: Or, I don't know. I think it's exciting. I can't remember.

It is not a very good team....I am sorry folks...we had all those threads and posts that were like mercury. Somebody would say "this is an issue"...somebody would retort "well yes but we have that to offset this issue and if we just wait it will all come together".

This team has nothing. Starting pitching is everything in baseball and the starting pitching sucks. We keep thinking this is a great offense and it is not. Ya' know how you can tell that it is not. When opposing pitchers have to get somebody out on this team....they are an out. They collect a bunch of useless hits and useless runs but when push comes to shove they are an out! They are an out way more times than is acceptable for a team that basically has to live off its offense!

As you said in the "Fix" thread, so much holes my friend, I wouldn't know where even start with this mess.

It sure is. You don't try to turn it around this season. You don't go out and dish prospects for a big pitcher.

I heard a guy on the radio today, and he made a great analogy. He was talking about trading Gonzalez, which I think is a ridiculous approach, but he said that having Gonzalez on this team is "like having a Porsche in the garage but you don't have a drivers license". Very well put. Same thing applies to going out and trying to fix this mess. Don't go out and spend money (prospects) buying a porsche (big name player) when you can't drive it anyway. This team has entirely too many problems right now for any 1 player to fix it.

Just go through the season, hope that guys like Lester Beckett and Buchholz can return to their career norms. I'm a big believer that players find their numbers. There's a reason there is consistency among careers. Ya know, if a guy like Beckett ends up with his 3.6-3.8 ERA, he's going to need to throw really well from here on out. But until I see some signs of these players throwing like they have in the past, I'm not expecting anything. Maybe I'll be surprised.

Some of us here who thought we were being realistic about the team's prospects were derisively called pessimists. I'm not aiming this at anyone as an I told you so. I understand optimistic sentiments before a season starts. I have been there many times. Also, I'm not engaging in any back patting. I couldn't engage in back-patting even if wanted to do so. Despite my disagreement with the off season moves, I always felt that this was a talented squad that would be competitive for most of the season. I did fear that it was likely the team's pitching would get stressed to the breaking point and eventually break as the season wore on. I never envisioned such ineptitude and dullness from the very start. None of the so-called pessimists here were pessimistic enough. This is complete failure.

How did Andrew Miller look on tv? I was in the RF bleachers, so I couldn't tell how he did. Looked pretty solid from out in RF, though. Was he getting calls to go his way, getting squeezed, how was his velocity, etc?

What really happened here is something very hard to accept and something we discussed on occasion in the off season. September should not have been treated like some sort of aberration. You are what you are and by the end of last year, they were a third place team.

Did they make many changes in the off season that would improve the team?....No

They did not make many changes and many hoped that there was no reason to because they wanted to define September as an aberration. Does September look like an aberration now? Are they playing much differently than they played in September?

They have spent $180M and they don't have much of a team for it. Hard to accept but it will take some time to make up for the FO mistakes of the last few years.

Please don't tell me I have to wait for Ells and CC. The problem this team has goes deeper than Ells and CC. They will play somewhat better when those two players get back but only because they add talent. They won't add cohesiveness and they won't add a desire to play intelligently and more importantly with a bit of humility. These guys think they can go out there and play anyway they please and win games. They can't!
