Leave all the issues aside -- there will always be plenty to worry about, we all know that.

I'm just glad the winter's almost over and we'll see baseball soon. I almost don't care how the season goes, it's always worse to have no baseball at all. Just shelled out $20 for Gameday Audio, which is probably the only baseball-related expense I'm going to be able to afford this year, and I am pumped just to hear baseball on the radio again..

Actually I can't quite shake this persistent, nagging sense of optimism. It feels like good things are going to happen this year, can't explain it better than that. Didn't feel this good about the team in '07. I think we have a lot of players who are going to do better than they did last year and I wouldn't even be surprised if Daisuke came back and shocked us at some point. He's due, he's a talented pitcher when his shoulder is healthy.

Anyway, point being, I'm excited for the season to start and can't wait for things to get going. I'm hoping you guys aren't too much swayed by the overbearing negativism in the media and can start to feel the old eternal hope as well.

'Interesting' is the word that comes to mind when I think about this year. For once maybe I'll just relax, and watch things unfold with no expectations.

But if they start 8-2, I know that damn optimism will kick in again.

You got it dude!

We basically need to go perfect. Season hasn't started and I'm surprised we haven't heard of a member jumping off a building. I can't imagine what will happen if we lose a game...

No one jumped during last year's start or collapse at the finish. Sox fans are survivors.

Despite the bleak outlook for this season there's always a little bounce in everyone's step when camp begins. If you're a fan of the game, how could you feel otherwise?

You looked into it too deep haha. Everyone was pissed as f*** last year. This upcoming season, people think we're going to finish 4th to the TORONTO BLUE JAYS. Let that sink in real quick. You're probably laughing your ass off like I'm doing.

Well this is one area where we are all in this together. Oh, I follow football and basketball but they are small potatoes compared to baseball. That is why Spring is my favorite time of the year. This is when baseball takes over, and in my opinion there is no sport like baseball. There is something timeless and historic about our sport and as Red Sox fans we are already biting our nails and pulling at our hair for this Grapefruit League season to get underway so we can get a glipse at how our team is shaping up.

There is something else some of you might have noticed and that most Red Sox fans say without a shadow of a doubt that baseball is their favorite sport. I know of fans of other teams who do not take this tack and tell you that they enjoy football, basketball and hockey just as much as root for their teams in those sports as hard as they do for their baseball team. That is not even remotely true about Red Sox fans. To us the Sox come first and everything else comes second.

This one is special, because the Red Sox have a new manager who is the 180 degree opposite of their old manager.

What he does and how the team responds will be fascinating.

I am excited. I have worries and concerns about this team, but any team can come together. No one expected anything from the 1967 Red Sox. The 2004 Red Sox appeared dead after three games versus the Yankees in the ALCS. I want to believe. The Cardinals won last year despite losing Adam Wainwright in the spring. The Tampa Bay Rays made the playoffs after losing Crawford and Garza. Teams can surprise.

Hahaha are you serious? A good amount of people here were bailing on the team by the 2 week of the season. It was awful around here. It was one of the few reasons I didn't stop by as much because people were being just ridiculous.

I am excited about baseball starting up again. I like basketball, football, and hockey, but I love baseball. I always looks forward to baseball season. A part of me is optimistic about this season. There are a lot of question marks, but that is what makes baseball exciting.

I'm beyond excited. Spring Training is here. I'm taking the first week in April off. I'll be able to watch our first game of the season @ Detroit @ 1:05pm and not listen on the radio at work!! I also took Patriot Day OFF to be able to watch our 11:05am game!!

Go Red Sox!!

Haha, I didn't remember that you were a jumper. I remember people being bewildered by the team's start. It was bewilderimg. No one including the Red Sox could explain how such a talented team didn't win a few games. It wasn't just a bad start, it was a historically bad start-- the worst start in my 53 years. People weren't happy, but they did what they do when the team plays poorly- they complained. I don't equate complaining or being upset with "jumping off a building.". Leaving the site comes closer to "jumping off a building" in my mind.

I do remember ORS uncharacteristically suggesting that Tito be fired. In retrospect, he was probably right. I thought it would have been a panic move with so much time left in the season. That was the most drastic reaction that I remember at the beginning of the season. That was no more drastic than people in 2009 and 2010 who wanted to DFA Ortiz in April and replace him with Daniel Nava.

I wasn't a jumper. I just wasn't around much because of my new job and my work with my teams and the Dutch National team had me tied up. But when I did get a chance to drop in the threads were just dripping with the sky is falling crap, fire francona, worst Red Sox team ever. So I chose not to spend what litte free time I had trying to get everyone to come back to reality here

They had a right to be upset, and at the beginning of last season we were dominated by "optimists". It's my recollection that the players and manager didn't look too thrilled either.

Edit: You can rationalize it however you want. A lot of people are busy. You bailed.

I do know this 700. When the Red Sox finally won their first game last season Fenway Park went ape s***. I could hardly hear a thing the noise was so shreaking and I was right in there myself going nuts. I sure as hell would have hated to have flown to Boston for that series and see the Red Sox go down in flames again. As it was we only won two of three and felt I was cheated that we didn't sweep the damn Yankees.

When does football start? :)

Haha! Agreed!!

But I can't freaking wait for baseball. I'm so sick of the off/pre-season bullcrap!!

If buch, Lester, and booze-hound Beckett are solid for us this year the I could careless about the backend.

I was at the middle game of the that series- the one we lost against Nova.

I have taken the 5th off work to watch the opener. I also took off a day for the first Yanks / Sox match up. Getting ready to purchase MLB.TV for 2012. I am so tired of hearing about last year. I feel good about this year. My kids are getting antsy to play baseball. I can't wait for ball season to be in full swing.

Whatever happened to that kid Nava? He looked like the best hitter at Pawtucket a couple years ago, and

never did anything in Boston. Maybe he just never got the right shot. Maybe his confidence.

Look at this kid Lin of the Knicks. You got to give these kids a shot. You never know. Rivers buries kids on the bench--which is why the Celtics are in trouble. Tito was never much for rookies, either. I hope Bobby V has a more open mind--especially with Iglesias and Lavarnway. And Kalish, when he's ready.

Jonathan Papelbon, Jon Lester, Manny Delcarmen, Kevin Youkilis, Daniel Bard, Clay Bucholz, Jacoby Ellsbury, among others all came up or were incorporated into the roster under Tito, who got lambasted for "ruining" Craig Hansen by putting him out there too soon.

Where do you come up with this stuff?

Nava got more than enough ABs to show he's a AAA player.
