Drew's OBPxDSIER/NOTUPG(On base percentage multiplied by days spent in emergency rooms divided by number of tampons used per game) was consistently in the top 5 of right fielder's from 2007-2011.

He will be missed.

Weren't you in the top 5 too? (It's a joke by the way)

:thumbsup::thumbsup:Fantastic. Bill James is publishing an addendum as we speak!!:D:D

About 'tuff and grit right? The makings of a productive ballplayer. The "dirtdogness" factor right?

Elkton, I agree 100%. people should be aware of what they post. However, my point is that certain people shouldn't take everything so personally. It seems like SBF has had problems on numerous boards. If he didn't take everything to heart, maybe the drama would go away.

If you are on the internet you will be ragged on. It's just life. We spend enough time posting on here that we tend to be less formal and more like a bunch of friends hanging out.

Just don't get worked up over a post. It's not worth the effort.

Oh I don't disagree, but really that young man was needlessly crude and should have been called out for it. Whatever SBF faults are he is quite knowledgeable and represents a valid point of view. Argue the post not the poster. Besides anyone would take offense at being labelled something they're not. EG I would take great personal offense if someone called me a liberal :D

I think we have exhuasted this theme. We know where each stands and can appreciate each others point of view, I will drop further discussion of the matter so as not to bore others.

You are right! We have got to come up for the right name for this metric. Dirtdogness factor is as good as any.

That seems to be a chief criticism of Drew, that he wasn't a Dirt Dog. I bet that if he had produced exactly the same, played the same number of games, but dove for balls more frequently, ran into walls a few more times, and slammed his helmet a few times, many Drew critics would have a different opinion of worth while with the Red Sox.

Drew sucked this year, there's no sugarcoating that. Over the first four years, however, Drew was worth his contract. Unfortunately, his contract was one year too long, which is almost always the case with long term deals.

Never saw the guy smile......... GTFO Drew and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Great observation! Come to think of it neither did I. I never saw him show any joy during his entire tenure in Boston.

I saw him laughing once when I was in line at the bank and he was depositing his check

WTF does that have to do with anything?

That's exactly the point that I'm trying to make.

You're the drunk one if you really believe what you just said about Drew being worth the money.

For the first four years of the contract? Yup.

No, he didn't live up to most people's expectations in terms of RBIs and HRs.

No, he didn't play up to his personal potential.

No, he wasn't the middle of the order bat that I think most were expecting.

But yes, he did earn his contract up until this year.

I guess no one has picked up on the fact that Dawgma is a TROLL. Don't feed him. So many people have actually responded to him and his pointless threads.

Thank you and have a good evening.

Okay' date=' now its in the realm of who gives a f***. Everyone has said their peace but in terms of 2012, nobody disputes that he's not going to be in a sox uni next yr. Move on[/quote']

Oh damn! You mean we won't have JD Drew to kick around anymore.........Who's next? The smart money says....... Carl Crawford

Thats your opinion. For $15M per year I expected more. Remember: that amount began five years ago when it was a relatively larger amount.

Yup, unless he has a significant turnaround, and maintains it for several years, he will be the new whipping boy. Unlike Drew's, however, his contract was insane to begin with.

I expected more out of Drew as well. What your or my expectations were does not affect whether he was monetarily worth his contract though.

And I disagree that $15 mil was a relatively larger amount five years ago. You need to take into account what the market was like at that time. Corner outfielders were all getting huge contracts.

Amen Jackson. What's the policy of deleting a thread on this board? Whoever has the power to do it, please do so. We worn this subject down to the nub and I doubt if there are too many of us left who want to talk about the guy. Enjoy your retirement J.D.:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown

I don't believe that anyone is forcing you to read or participate in a thread if you don't want to. Ignore if you don't want to talk about the guy.

Deleting a post just because the topic has been beaten to death for 3 years is silly. It's the offseason. Once ST comes, Drew will be a distant memory and no one will care.

Whether or not he was worth the money is a totally subjective judgement. In his case there was both good and bad: good OPS, good defensively, but on the negative side, he never got over 78 RBIs in a season, didn't hit many HRs, was felt by most that he didn't fulfill his potential as a ball player, and was soft and unwilling to play injured. He got paid to play like a top corner OF and IMO failed to do so overall, though in some areas he excelled. As I said, I expected more.
