I think Lincecum's stuff plays out in the AL East' date=' but I'd be wary about durability. Already 4 straight 200IP seasons prior to his 28th bday on a 5'11" frame.[/quote'].and his velocity is down.

Well' date=' it sounds like Wilson is on our radar. Cashman talked to his agent and didnt deny rumors that Wilson is atop the Yankees wish list.[/quote']

Better the Yankees than the Sox. CJ Wilson is Lackey Lite! IMHO

Posted
CJ Wilson is a better bet than Lackey to hold value, but I do not think his contract demands and his value will be equal through his contract. I'd rather see what Darvish or a trade could net you

Everything I have read has the Yanks, the Halos, and the Rangers being the front runners for this guy. CJ would at the very least, solidify our rotation, but I am a bit concerned about his performance on the big stage this past yr. He looked lost in the world series and playoffs.

I haven't heard too much about Wilson, if anything I see him going to some team like the Nats or Marlins who will look to make a splash and offer him big money.

The Nats have been offering big money for 3 yrs now and have only snatched up one marquee FA in Werth. If Cashmoney decides that Wilson is a must get, then we'll get him, it's that simple. Washington has a ways to go before they are legit contenders in the NL East

My guess is that Wilson is likely landing to NY/Nats and Buehrle resigns with the WS, at least there is not a juicy and substantial better offer out there. I'm not sure if someone put on the table a long term contract on him considering the 2013 FA pitching class.

Would it be possible to rename this "2011 Yankees Offseason Thread"? I usually shoot through the "New posts" list, and I keep jumping to this one accidentally.

Thanks, Pal

I just don't feel like the Yankees like him that much, just what I get from reading stuff. Seems more like they are just doign their work and talking to people.

I think taking a chance on Yu Darvish is the best way to go.

I agree, I don't want Jackson, MB or Wilson. Go for Darvish and the Cuban CFer and call it an off season. Except for minor moves like re-signing Chavez and/or Jones.

How could you turn down proven MLB pitchers like Buehrle and Wilson, especially Buehrle, but push for Darvish?

I don't see any of those being potential ace types. I'd rather have Noesi at 500K than Wilson at 20 mill. MB has half the league after him on an open market. I always shoot for upside I guess I'd rather gamble a dime and win a dollar than a nickel than win a quarter.

True, but the pitching market that year was VERY thin.

I guess I can see where you're coming from. I'd pass on Wilson too, but I guess I just have a man crush on Buehrle. But do you really want to gamble when your team is built to win now?

Since we both agree Wilson isn't a good option, I'm mostly considering his contract he'll get. Lets see with Darvish CC, Darvish, Nova, Burnett and then Hughes and Noesi. I really like Hughes going for a good season next year. He's working out hard in a program in cali and think he could have a 2010 type season next year. Noesi I like as well. With Buehrle and he's someone I admire as a person due to his charity work but I don't have a hard on for his pitching. I'm not saying he's bad but I just feel we could get similar results from other people cheaper. CC, MB, Nova, AJ and Hughes/Noesi. I'm just kind of liking the Darvish line a bit more and let's say for the sake of it we don't get Jackson, MB or Wilson and Darvish doesn't get posted I'm fine with CC, Nova, AJ, Hughes and Noesi. I mean we could always make a deal midseason for Danks or someone else, Grienke, Cain, etc. Also Banuelso and Betances could be options in July and Phelps and Warren(who I personally like) in May. I'm just saying the Yankees have a lot of pitching depth and options right now. No need to panic and make a move out of desperation.

Darvish is a little different in that he is a much bigger framed pitcher. IMO, that plays out better. Also, you hear some scouts or even Bobby Valentine talk about DiceK while he was in Japan, and it is night and day from the BS that was fed to the sox nation when they got him. Bobby said definitively that DiceK could touch 97-98mph, but that was rare and he typically sat 91-92mph. He also said in his first interview on the topic back 5 yrs ago that he didnt think he'd be an ace, since he didnt believe in his stuff and his command. Fast forward, and he was exactly right. Breaking stuff a tick above average, fastball sitting in the low 90s and he's had games where he touches the upper nineties, and major control issues. Now with Darvish, the consensus reports have him at 6'5", sitting 93+mph, having impeccable control and having a wipeout secondary arsenal. Now, maybe I am drinking the same Kool Aid as everyone did with DiceK, but this guy looks like the far superior pitcher. And he is a year younger than DiceK was when he was posted

Darvish isn't the typical Japanese pitcher either. He is only half-Japanese, so he may not be as frail as some of the other players to come out of there.

55 CGs in 164 GS, goddamn

Also, I am not on the "oh my god, don't get CJ!!" bandwagon. I think he could be very useful to this team. I just dont like the idea of a big contract for another guy who is considered effectively wild. Because, eventually, they will become ineffectively wild. AJ was "effectively wild" and he gave us one above average season and two awful ones

Sherman predicts Danks will end up with the Yankees. I'm wondering what you would give up for him and what you think it will take to get him, Jackson?

I would love to get by with a Romine, Heathcott, Warren/Phelps and lower end guy with some upside for him, but think it'll take Betances, Romine and someone like Jorge Vazquez to get it done.

Well, the Yankees are certainly playing the game with them. "Unnamed sources arent content with the yankees giving up the motherlode for a guy with 1 yr left on his contract". That sounds like it was leaked straight from Cashman's mouth into the reporters pad. The White Sox seem to be in love with Romine as well, and he looks the part of a big league catcher in all facets of the game, so I can see their reason for liking him. And with the Yankees having effectively a Romine clone already in Martin, there really isnt a need to block his maturation. And since he is in his last yr of a deal, I think we could avoid dealing Montero or any of the two remaining B's.

Romine would be the lead. Then you'd have to throw them two big league ready pitchers, and that would probably be Noesi and Warren, then a long range guy like an Angelo Gumbs or so.

That's too much if you ask me. Forget Danks, forget Wilson....if Darvish gets posted, I know a lot of people won't agree with me but, they need t do whatever it takes to get him. I know people are reluctant given the recent history with big $ Japanese pitchers coming over, but Yu Darvish is a special player and an amazing talent. If he doesn't get posted I say do whatever it takes to get Buehrle. I want no part of CJ Wilson or Edwin Jackson.

Yankees interested in Kyle Drabek' date=' might be a nice buy low move.[/quote'] i agree, he's still on the productive side of 20, and could do well with a solid team, granted those were some decent Jays' teams he's been on...

It could be' date=' but he'd be thrust into a sharks tank in terms of location and depth[/quote'] well, NY is a place where it's going to happen at some point like with Nova, and how Showalter and Joe T did it with Andy
