Phil Hughes to enter camp as the #5 starter. He's apparently lost 20 lbs and has been in camp for weeks. He looked fat and his conditioning must have been lacking last offseason. It took until August to get his stuff back. If he can stay in shape and throw that low to mid 90s cheese, he'd be the best 5th starter in the AL East. If he slumps out of the gate and cannot maintain velocity, then Garcia will break camp as the #5

Yanks Plan To Add Two Bats; Targeting Chavez, Ibanez

By Mark Polishuk [February 17 at 4:46pm CST]

4:46pm: Heyman says the Yankees won't "finalize" things with Ibanez and Chavez until after Burnett has passed his physical and the league has approved the trade (Twitter link).

The Sox are going to get 2 bats too-- a Louisville Slugger and a Mizuno. We got 2 arms yesterday-- Ohlendorf. He has 2 arms. We're set baby!

Burnett's deal will get finalized come Monday and then we'll finalize our deals with Ibanez and Chavez. I think Chavez can be replaced with Laird, but Ibanez is an intriguing talent. In YS, he could be a bruiser, but he's slowed down significantly and I am of the belief that he's done. I hope I am wrong

They arent spending $5 mil this season on Ibanez. My guess is some of that money is ticketed to Soler.

My thoughts are the same as yours bud. Honestly give me Soler before Chavez and Ibanez. I think Jones can do some work at the Dh spot and Vazquez, Maxwell and Braynan are good pieces to battle it out for the last bench spot.

Yankees Sign David Aardsma

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [February 22 at 11:21am CST]

The Yankees have signed 30-year-old right-hander David Aardsma, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com tweets. It's a Major League deal worth $500K, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News tweets. Aardsma underwent Tommy John surgery last July and won't be ready to contribute until midway through the 2012 campaign.

Aardsma last pitched in the Major Leagues in 2010, when he saved 31 games as the Mariners' closer, posting a 3.44 ERA with 8.9 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9 in 49 2/3 innings. He has a 4.20 ERA with 9.1 K/9 and 5.0 BB/9 in parts of six MLB seasons.

2009, he was lights out. 2010 he was very solid until he got injured. His hip was operated on, then he blew out his elbow in July. Should he come back healthy, this is one hell of a smooth move. If he doesnt, then there is no risk
