I guess it doesn't matter what type he'd be anyway.

I mean, would YOU offer Bedard arbitration?

I would, and hope he'd accept, since he'd be useful when he did pitch and we have depth, but I suspect I'm in the minority

How was Eric Gagne a Type A in 2006? Heck, how was he a Type B in 2007 when he had flat out SUCKED for about half of 2006?

You answer that question, you answer your own.

It took awhile, but I found Erik Bedard's ranking as of July 27th, 2011...

He is NOT a Type A. He is NOT a Type B. He is a "none", right there with Brad Penny, Bartolo Colon and Jeff Francis.

Good deal for the Sox. they didn't give up any of their best prospects, and got a lefty #3 starter who should be effective against NY. They also got a kid closer who is a former #1 draft pick. Maybe a setup guy next year if Pap walks.

All the good teams are stacking up on LHd starters--Texas and Philly. NY will have that Mexican kid lefty starting against the Red Sox sooner than you think. Lester and Bedard--and maybe Miller--give the Red Sox good cover against the Yankees.

Yeah' date=' we kind of got robbed in this deal but at the same time it's public knowledge that we needed to clear space on our 40 man and by trading Federowicz, Lavarnway can now get regular starts at catcher. Those two were taking turns down in AAA.[/quote']

Actually now I've had a chance to Get The **** Over It, I kinda agree with Example. We were going to lose some or all of those guys to Rule V if we did nothing, and we gave up nothing we were counting on to start for us so this sort of becomes a "throw a bunch of middling guys at the problem and see if a bad team with no depth will bite." This could work out for all sides.

I'm just disappointed because the deal looked a whole lot better about 25 minutes ago when we thought we were getting Trayvon Robinson.

I don't HATE this deal. I'll give it a solid B-. Of course, when you need a pitcher and end up with Bedard it could be worse. It's comparable to getting Harden, but I like that he's LH better.

If I had Bedard I WOULD offer him arbitration so I could get picks or keep him as a #5. Mostly I'm just pissed that the M's got back two good prospects for a guy they never should have signed in the first place. THey traded Adam Jones for Bedard in the first place, and got a back a comparable prospect in Robinson. That's a save if I've ever seen one.

Here's a random and stupid question. Let's say at the moment that the Red Sox and White Sox are working on a deal' date=' let's say for Quentin. Could Quentin just go on the field with the Red Sox in the next inning after the trade or is their some rule that a person cannot play for 2 teams in the same game or something?[/quote']

I'm sure it's happened, but not in the same day. For example, there's been a game that was rain delayed early in the season, and the rest of which was played later in the season, and one player was traded from one team to the other in between those dates, so he technically started the game on one team and finished on the other.

I'm wondering if a pitcher can get the loss and a save in a similar fashion.

I'd hesitate to call Chiang a "good prospect." He's more "interesting" in my own personal parlance. He's not a lock to make the majors, and that's where I draw the line.

This was kinda them spinning some of the guys we dumped on them for Robinson. We didn't get anything from the dodgers, so it was probably called a three way deal to get the whole thing under the radar and approved in time.

Not in the same game, once you're on the lineup card you're either in the lineup or done. But there are storied incidents in the past of a player playing for one team in game 1 of a doubleheader and the other for game 2.

watching Hunter Pence, I think the Sox made a big mistake not dealing for him and making him the right fielder. Looks like a hell of a player to me. He would have balanced that lineup perfectly. They have too many lhd hitters in the OF.

Pence would've been beyond expensive.

We have no problem with right field depth now or in the future, even if you're skeptical about Reddick. Pence would not have been as good an acquisition for us.

I think it ultimately makes us a better team. As stated, we would have lost some of those prospects anyways. I think the alternative, (doing nothing), would have been worse.

So who volunteers to drive Bedard down to the Dominican and get him some "stem cells?"

Because he could really use some of whatever Colon's having.

Kalish and Reddick are both the real deal. I bet one of them ends up as good/better than Pence when all is said and done. Some have said that Kalish is a potential superstar and all one needs to do is watch some of his defensive plays last year to be reminded of why this is the case. He's phenomenal.

Who did we give up for him?

4 B- to B level prospects, the headliner of which was either Tim Federowicz or Stephen Fife, depending on who you ask.

Maybe one day Kalish will heal fully and play for us on the ML level. Next season, maybe.

Kalish will ultimately make Reddick expendable, I believe.

I doubt it. They're different kinds of players. Reddick's a bad ball hitter and more of a corner OF, Kalish is a patient guy with 5 tools and a better CF. I think Kalish right now is at least as much Ellsbury insurance as Reddick insurance.

Point is we could easily wind up needing both players.

Good point, but I think with both of them healthy, Reddick would sit. I was very impressed with Kalish when he was healthy, but I see what you mean about each of their strengths.

And Reddick's patience has improved, which is why he broke out this year.

We'll see what happens with Kalish's power.
