Well I'm glad they did something' date=' but I'm certainly not sold on Bedard. He was awesome until going on the DL in June, and was terrible in his first start back. Though if he's healthy, he's at least better than Miller.[/quote']

The price we gave up for him was ultimately a flier -- we gave up a catching prospect we don't need. If Bedard pitches up to his talent level in Boston that's a steal. Sure it's no slam dunk, but it's actually a low risk investment for a power LHP. I'll give him a chance before razzing on him under the circumstances.

Erik Bedard has been traded, tweets SI's Jon Heyman. ESPN's Gordon Edes says the Red Sox got the lefty. Catcher Tim Federowicz went to the Dodgers in what became a three-team deal, tweets ESPN's Jayson Stark.

I wonder if a RH outfielder or LH reliever is also involved.

I agree. Just like with the rumor last night with the A's, all of a sudden Bedard will get a lot of love. I think it will help a little, but it's still just a meh trade. Glad that we did not give up a lot.

It's just a matter of wanting a trade so badly, even an ok trade makes everyone happy.

Don't get me wrong, Bedard is no slouch if he's healthy. THe Sox needed another established arm and they got one.

Suprisingly, they must have thought that Bedard's health with one bad start under him is better than a supposedly healthy Rich Harden. My garbage can smells better than your garbage can?

I hope so. I actually think that Miller gets too much s***. If he were pitching for another team right now people on this board would be saying "why didn't the Sox trade for Miller?"

Nah they probably wouldn't. But Miller is a long term project, and he has shown some ability to "get it." He's just nowhere near there yet.

To be fair, Bedard didn't take a rehab start off the DL, and came back after no throwing for 30 days and faced an MLB team.

I also do not think Bedard's first start after the DL was indicative of what he can bring to the team. I would reserve judgement until he has 3-4 games with the Red Sox under his belt.

I hope he stays healthy and delivers what we need down the stretch and into the post season. He is an upgrade for Miller/Wake/Aceves.

Bedard > Miller' date=' Wakefield, and Weiland, and possibly even Lackey[/quote']

That's exactly right. Bedard pitched like a 2-3 starter in Seattle this year. His arm is fine.

he was on the DL for a minor leg injury.

I don't know why they went after Harden first.

No trades for the Yankees. Wandy stays in Houston. Why didn't they go for Bedard?

The big winners: the Phillies and the Guardians. the Red Sox did well--but are still vulnerable to LHP. Buerhle is beating them today.

Tito is wrong if he thinks MacDonald is the solution. They could have at least gotten Ludwick for cheap.

Who is Josh Fields?

Chiang and Fife also included' date=' per reports.[/quote']

Chiang was hitting out of his mind, but he can't play defense and we already have a CF.

Sweet!

Fields is a career .293/.357/.600 hitter against lefties.

Fields is a pitcher...
