Spier is saying Bedard and Fields. Don't love that. Why not Robinson? What the hell did the Mariners give up here?

Bedard.

Did you think power lefties, even oft-injured ones, would be cheap at the deadline?

3:14pm: This appears to be what's gone down, from Gordon Edes:

Red Sox get: starter Erik Bedard, reliever Joshua Fields (both from Mariners)

Dodgers get: catcher Tim Federowicz, Juan Rodriguez, Stephen Fife (all from Red Sox)

Mariners get: outfielder Trayvon Robinson (from Dodgers), outfielder Chih-Hsien Chiang (from Red Sox)

Sox moved guys they might have lost due to Rule 5 anyway, according to Pete Abe. I still don't get why the M's got two legit prospects for giving up Bedard...

Robinson and Chiang... I hope this Fields guy is worth something because I'm not sold on Bedard.

Glad you guys didn't get Robinson. Really like that guy. I'm going to say four years from now he'll be the key to the deal. Like this play from the M's point of view. Chiang is solid too.

Seattle has no use for him, so yes.

Bee. Ess. If that's how it really went down we gave up 5 prospects for Bedard and Nothing Else. If Fields makes the bigs it's because someone made a mistake, and that mistake will be quickly corrected. He is literally valueless.

Chiang can't play defense to save his life.

The hell does that mean? It has nothing to do with his utility to Seattle. It has to do with what they can get for him. I mean Fedex has no utuility to us, but you made a point of talking up his value. Same deal with Bedard.

If we didn't get Robinson' date=' we come out second here, especially if Bedard is not a Type A.[/quote']

How could Bedard possibly be a Type A? He hasn't thrown more than 100 IP since 2007.

Nothing.

I'll be very interested in how Buchholz' doctor visit goes tomorrow now. With the trade deadline over, we don't need to posture as if he's healthy if he's not.

Bedard is a LONG way off to even being a Type B...

How was Eric Gagne a Type A in 2006? Heck, how was he a Type B in 2007 when he had flat out SUCKED for about half of 2006?

You answer that question, you answer your own.

RP vs SP. Different requirements. You can't just group it as all Pitchers. It's RP and SP.

I'm willing to say that Seattle made off best in this deal because they lost nothing except for a single piece they wanted to get rid of anyway, and got two good prospects (Robinson and Chiang). Like I said, if Fields is anything decent I can come around to liking this deal, but I would rather be the M's here.

Yeah, we kind of got robbed in this deal but at the same time it's public knowledge that we needed to clear space on our 40 man and by trading Federowicz, Lavarnway can now get regular starts at catcher. Those two were taking turns down in AAA.
