I'm just messing with you. The deal's official pending a physical.

Don't scare me like that. <_ src="//d1mqtyoopj0gsc.cloudfront.net/emoticons/default_angry.png" alt="">

On Lee:

9:40pm: It doesn't appear that the Pirates will have to take on much salary, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (on Twitter).

The whole reason the O's are trading him is to dump salary and they're picking up most of it. God they suck!

Orlando Cabrera traded to giants

Who'd they get? I thought the Tribe were buyers and John Adams would have some reason to bang.

Not sure yet.

All Cabrera does when he doesn't play is pout and we have Kipnis and Phelps :dunno:

Well Cabrera is better at SS, where he played for the Sox in 2004 after Nomar was traded. Didn't really fit in Cleveland, good move for the Giants who needs a SS.

They got Thomas Neal for OC. Thomas Neal is batting .295 in AAA. Lost his power this year though

Bummed we didn't Ubaldo. Sox have to play the Guardians starting monday! Damn Ubaldo. I hope we shell him for 10 runs in 3 2/3

Sure hope we acquire someone like King Felix this off-season...

"Someone like" King Felix. Yeah, he or Lefty Grove would be pretty awesome. Or Bob Gibson. I wonder who else might be available.

Okay, so apparently I missed something, because the Harden deal still isn't for real yet... either that or someone forgot to tell Harden what's up

I just saw that as well. Hopefully it's just because the deal is not officially finalized yet and not because the deal still has some time to go and Harden may go to another team.

Late scratches and mid-game substitutions are never more suspicious than in the final days of July, and manager Arnie Beyeler’s replacing Anderson with Daniel Nava is a far from routine baseball move.

“I got a call to take him out of the game,” Beyeler said. “So I took him out of the game.”

“I don’t know, man,” Anderson replied when asked what he knew about the situation. “There are rumors I didn’t like my walk-up music and took myself out of the game.”

There really isn't a place for him on our team anymore with Gonzalez under contract for the next 7 years, but Anderson really is a great guy on a personal level. Wherever he ends up, I hope he does really well.

Me too. Just don't understand why Beane would tell him he was pitching Tuesday night if a trade was going through. Even if it was to another team, you'd think he'd tell Harden what was going on.

And just as I was starting to get excited about this deal... f***... why the hell can't a trade just be simple? Seriously... it's not like this is rocket science... it's a trade involving a pitcher made of glass that can strike out people like nobody's business for a player who struggles with AAA pitching and never had a shot to make it here. Should be a done deal.

GM's aren't allowed to comment on trades that aren't finalized. So even if this deal was agreed to pending physicals they'd have to act like business as usual.

Back to Lars...

“It used to be a lot more,” he said, even referring to his “height of prospectism.” “I remember hearing something in the off-season a few years ago, and I got pretty, you know, … I like this organization a lot, and I wasn’t into that trade. I was like, ‘Man, I really hope that doesn’t happen.’ Now, that might be what needs to happen for me to really have a shot. You never want to close off options or close your mind. It’s important to be open to all things and kind of ride that wave when it comes. I’m kind of in a neutral position and accepting of whatever comes.”

I wonder if he was reffering to the Halladay sweepstakes that would have sent him to Toronto or the original talks we had surrounding Adrian Gonzalez that would have sent him to San Diego a couple years ago.

Only place we could really put him is possibly at DH a few years down the road if Ortiz isn't around, but I wasn't counting on Lars being a part of this team any time soon anyway.

Hope the Harden deal officially gets done soon. He could be a valuable guy for us. Of course, that's always pending his health situation, but I'd be good with us taking a chance on him.

Lars for Harden seems like an absolute steal to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't Lars Anderson be eligible for the rule 5 draft in December anyway? Not worth keeping him on the 40 man roster, IMO.

You are absolutely correct. Both Lars and Navarro are/were members of our 40 man roster. I imagine trading them was at least in part influenced by the 40-man roster crunch we were rumored to have. It was first reported a month or two ago but this is the only thing I can find mentioning it.

EDIT: BTW, other prospects on our 40-man include:

Bowden

Doubront

Pimentel

Tazawa

Weiland

Exposito

Iglesias

Tejeda

Kalish

Reddick

We may attempt to trade one or two more of those players to free up roster space.

CHICAGO — Turns out the Red Sox are not getting Rich Harden after all. At least they haven't yet.

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting via Twitter that Oakland GM Billy Beane told Harden that he is pitching on Tuesday for the A's.

"I'm here and staying here," Harden told reporters in Oakland tonight. "I'm happy to be part of this organization. I'm looking forward to starting Tuesday"

The AP is reporting that the trade was called off.

More updates on this as it becomes available. Obviously the teams have until tomorrow to work something out, if there is something to be worked out. There is no word on why the deal was called off.

If the Harden deal is indeed dead, the Sox could turn to Erik Bedard, Jason Vargas or perhaps Wandy Rodriguez

Deal for Harden is off' date=' according to multiple sources.[/quote']

SUNDAY, 12:05am: Harden told the Oakland media that there is no deal and that he's staying with the A's, tweets Ian Browne of MLB.com. A Boston source confirmed Brown (via Twitter) that the deal is off.

God damnit. I'd like to think it's because he acquired an even better starter but I highly doubt it.

Bummer

Does Harden have no-trade or 10-5 protection?

Weird.

Stranger things have happened at the deadline. I'm still confident there's a pitcher out there somewhere for us.

Seems like every trade falls through at some point and then regains steam. Wouldn't surprise me if the Sox and A's couldn't agree on PTBNL, but they have until 4 tomorrow, or, well today.
