I think it is a weird confluence of the Sox needs, the market, and their list of prospects. There may not be many moves today. I like hearing that Theo is continuing to look at Garza. He would be my top priority. Would be a solid addition.

Considering all the truly fatal damage in 06 happened after the deadline, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I don't think picking up a true #1 SP woulda helped us that year.

Dark horse acquisition: Carlos Zambrano. Cubs want to clear the contract, he's an innings machine, won't kill your prospect pool because his stock isn't at its highest.

I'd rather not. They were practically trying to give him to the Yankees.

Like I said a week ago. Zambrano gives us an innings eater, AND he strengthens our line up when playing @NL stadiums

Ellsbury

Pedroia

Zambrano

Gonzalez

Youkiliz

Crawford

Reddick

Salty

Scutaro

He can stay on his dark horse and ride on to NY if you ask me. He's a loose cannon, expensive and unreliable. Garza, please.

Here's a random and stupid question. Let's say at the moment that the Red Sox and White Sox are working on a deal, let's say for Quentin. Could Quentin just go on the field with the Red Sox in the next inning after the trade or is their some rule that a person cannot play for 2 teams in the same game or something?

Edes says he hasn't heard anything about Garza' date=' hopefully he is corrected by day's end.[/quote']

I doubt it. There have been no reliable reports that this is anything realistic.

At this point I'd be happy as f*** to get Bedard. <_>

If Buch is out for the year, there is no alternative to grabbing another starter.

WOuld anyone be shocked if the Sox jumped in on Heath Bell, just to make a move? He's sitting out there. They don't need a closer (or setup man) but every team can use a deep pen and Bell, Bard and Papelbon would be sick. Also would be insurance against Paps leaving next year, if he were interested in sticking around.

I'd be all for it

We still need a lefty and an outfielder.

If they aren't out there, they aren't out there. This team can get a mediocre RH OF after the deadline. They aren't going to get Beltran or Pence or anyone notable for the OF. Not any great LHP options either. With an abundance of AAA level players, a 40 man roster crunch, is there anything reasonable about going with best available?

Guardians interested in Wandy. Close to deal being done

Nope, Cleveland isn't getting him.

The way Miller is throwing right now, I really am curious as to how his stuff plays out of the bullpen. If he can get some control, his fastball could bump up from 93-95 today to 96-98 out of the pen. Throw that in there with Bard, Albers, and Pap, and that's pretty lights out.

He doesn't have the ability to warm up quickly. Maybe with some time in the minors he could get used to it but time is one of the things we're short of.

I'd like to get him in the bullpen for a year or two to teach him situational pitching, since it's one of his bigger weaknesses, but I don't think Miller would thrive there in the last few months of a playoff year.

Just one more hour I'm anxious to know if we'll get someone. I don't want to be pessimistic but I don't think we'll pick someone up :(

T-minus 55 minutes until trade deadline. All quiet with @RedSox right now. Calm before the storm?

I think something big gets done.

Theo manages the end of the deadline as well as anyone, as far as I can tell. THis is the time to stop leaking stuff to the desperate beat writers, and just get things done.
