We shouldn't be giving up anyone for a starter whose team wouldn't allow us to conduct a physical.

 

Joel Sherman of The New York Post reports (on Twitter) that four days ago the Yankees asked the Rockies if they could perform a physical on Jimenez if the two sides came to an agreement on a trade. Colorado refused, so the Yankees backed out.

 

I'm glad that came out today. That gives Epstein tonight and most of tomorrow to possibly work out a trade or another starter.

Yep. I agree. Middlebrooks + Tulo will be a good left-side for years.

 

Sox have some pitching to make the deal work for Colorado without having the elite prospects.

Found out why the Yankees pulled their offer. Cashman asked 4 days ago if the Yanks could get a physical on Ubaldo should a deal be finalized, and they said no.

Actually Vitek isn't having a great year, but he still does have a chance. Good plate discipline, but I'm not sure he has the power to hack it as a 3B

Exactly what I thought. Why would a team deal their young "ace" who is under control through 2014 at reasonable money and not allow a physical in a season where his velo has dropped? Sounds like they're trying to hide something

I think you missed this post.

 

I'd be surprised if it was the Rox actually refusing a standard physical. It was probably more of something like this:

 

Yanks: We need to run a physical on Jimenez. It will take 3-4 days, so we need to get this hammered out today so that we don't get held up.

 

Rox: We'll let you take a standard physical but we're not going to rush this deal just so you can run extensive tests. He has a 3.03 ERA since 6/1, he's fine.

 

Yanks: Well then we're out.

 

I'm sure Cashman was trying to just push a deal and force the Rockies to make a quick decision. Either way, the Sox are extremely thorough in their acquisitions (See: Crawford), so if they pull the trigger on something, I'm sure he's fine.
