If we lose Middlebrooks and Lavarnway, we won't have a lot of high end guys that are close, especially since Navarro was also in our top 10, which he eanred given his age and minor league performance.

We'll still have quite a bit of talent at AA and below, but the high end guys less than 18 months away will be negligible in both quality and quantity.

True. But I can live with that if we win the WS

As long as he doesn't go to the Yankees, I'll be happy. That leaked story about them pulling all of their prospects off the table seems kind of fishy.

next year they'll have a new bunch of studs. they draft well.

THey've cleared out 6 years worth of studs in the last 4 years.

We *are* depleting the farm system faster than prospects are emerging.

We're not gonna be f***ed for the next 5 years though right? I hate having a weak farm.

Sherman is saying the Yanks demanded that the Rockies do a physical on Jiminez before a trade would be final. Rocks got pissed at that as well.

Just read this ... so even if he's not going to the Guardians, there's no way he goes to the Yankees.

That's... hard to say. We'll be hard up for replacements for the next little while, and of course there's no telling who's gonna fizzle. It'd become ticklish for awhile. If we need to replace anyone big over that time we might have a cascading problem where we have to trade and deplete our farm system because the farm system is depleted. That's how dynasties tend to end.

So no that one deal won't kill us, but it'll get us closer to that cascade scenario than I'd like to be.

Colorado is refusing to allow teams to conduct a physical on him? Something's clearly wrong with him, I don't want him anymore.

Apparently NY backed off when Colorado refused a physical. Something to be worried about?

WHen you're investing this much talent on a fastball-splitter guy? Absofreakinglutely. You don't buy a guy like that sight unseen. Physical is a reasonable request.

That's a dealbreaker for me. You have to be able to check for obvious problems. It's like inspecting a car for purchase and finding out the VIN has been filed off. It's suspicious at least.

Isn't his fastball a couple MPH slower?

Yeah, that certainly seems possible ... especially considering they're willing to trade him in the first place with his affordable contract over the next two and a half years.

Our farm is extremely strong in the lower minors, with the likes of Bogaerts, Brentz, Chiang, Cecchini, Vitek, Brandon Jacobs, etc.

The huge strength that the Red Sox have right now is that they are locked up at every position for years, if you count the combo of Reddick/Kalish and Iglesias. So they have a lot of spare parts. If you add Jimenez to the Sox, you could have your rotation set for the next 2-3 years as well.

Basically, if our farm gets a little depleted at the upper levels, it's not going to hurt as bad because we have young, strong talent at the MLB level locked up for years.

This is re-assuring. You sir, have eased my mind. Many thanks.

Indinas are getting Ludwick at least.

7:16pm: The Guardians are in position to acquire Ludwick either later tonight or early tomorrow morning, reports Scott Miller of CSBSports.com (on Twitter).

I'd be surprised if it was the Rox actually refusing a standard physical. It was probably more of something like this:

Yanks: We need to run a physical on Jimenez. It will take 3-4 days, so we need to get this hammered out today so that we don't get held up.

Rox: We'll let you take a standard physical but we're not going to rush this deal just so you can run extensive tests. He has a 3.03 ERA since 6/1, he's fine.

Yanks: Well then we're out.

I'm sure Cashman was trying to just push a deal and force the Rockies to make a quick decision. Either way, the Sox are extremely thorough in their acquisitions (See: Crawford), so if they pull the trigger on something, I'm sure he's fine.

PawSox 1B Lars Anderson pulled back for a pinch-hitter as he came to bat in the bottom of the 7th-inning at McCoy. Still 3-2 Louisville.

I'd laugh if Theo pulled of this deal and gave up s*** in return.

He did pitch over 450 innings between 2009 and 2010 and now his fastball and slider are 2-3 mph and they're refusing teams to do a physical on him before they give up their best prospects. None of that sounds good.

You are really good at making me worry less about things. Any chance you're single?

Interesting. How about Renaudo, Lavarnway, Weiland, Anderson, and a PTBNL?

I kinda figured he'd be involved where a first baseman might be needed. The Rockies only have Helton.

I think the Sox match up well to deal with Denver.

This new news about the physical is alarming, especially without context. I suspect that this was leaked by the Yankees as a bit of bargaining gamesmanship to bring the price back within their range. Good move by them if true.

none of these twitter reporters are reliable... that's the way these trade deadlines go.

I find the off-season and deadline to be the most exciting time of the year, to be honest.
