Now if we can get Colon and Garcia to come back to earth...

If that happens the rays will finish ahead of them by the time this year is over

I didnt see the game, how was the velo? Only ESPN gamecast comes through the hospital server, and that doesnt show pitch speed. But it seemed every pitch from Hughes was down the middle.

And yes, as it stands right now, I would take even Adam Warren over Hughes. Getting lit up by the hapless A's is inexcuseable. Time to option him to AAA let him work the rest of the yr there and see what happens. He's obviously not right and hasnt been for a full yr now

Actually, Nova is on the DL right now, so Adam Warren will make his big league debut for the doubleheader next week. After that, though, I think Nova needs to get the start. Hughes had one good start, one shaky start and one horrible one. He probably gets one more start, and if that one sucks as much as this one did, then I bet he's in AAA

Any thoughts on Warren? He looks like a fly ball pitcher who relies heavily on his control.

I like him better than Mitchell and Phelps, but he's nothing but a backend of the rotation type. I am excited to see him pitch tho!

He's got a low 90s fastball, capable of running it up to 94-95 if needed. He doesnt have any one truly dominant off speed pitch, but he throws a curve, slider and change and all are at least MLB average. He's a horse, though, capable of going deep into minor league games. We'll see how he does in the bigs, but he is a big league pitcher in the making. I just wonder if that's in the Bronx or somewhere else

He's a middle of the rotation type. I would be really intrigued by Mitchell if he were coming up. He's got sick movement on his pitches, but I think he ends up in the pen

Gardner just played a fly out into a double. He had two more steps to the wall but didn't know where he was in his home ball park... but the metrics say otherwise.

The Yankees lose! With the Red Sox and Angels having favorable pitching match ups against some of the worst teams in the AL, there's a decent chance the Red Sox division lead will go up to 3 and the Yankees wild card lead will go down to 4.5. It'll be interesting to see where the Yankees are in a month when A-Rod returns.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman told Bill Pennington of The New York Times that he negotiated deals in 2008 and 2009 that would have let Kei Igawa return to Japan, but the lefty refused both times. Cashman also said he was prepared to trade Igawa to the Padres in 2007 after San Diego claimed him off waivers, but "ownership was not willing to let him go yet."

I love the Steinbrenners!

Bad loss, but with the Angels and Rays losing, no harm no foul. I never expected them to win the division, so losing ground there doesn't really bother me all that much.

Considering the criticism this team gets from all angles' date=' I think it's important to note that their PYTH is the best in baseball.[/quote']

There's something to be said for being able to win 1 run games, in which the Yankees are 12-15.

The Yankees are making the playoffs' date=' so are the sox. That's pretty much a foregone conclusion.[/quote']

We'll see where the Yankees are in a month when A-Rod returns. Their wild card lead by only be a game or two.

You're right, losing your most valuable player for a month and a half won't have any affect on the standings whatsoever.

What a huge blown call in the Yankees favor. That wasn't even close and it turns a strikeout throw em out into 2 on no one out.

And the Yankees blow it!

They were given 2 free baserunners and 5 outs to work with in that inning and they couldn't get a run across.
