Good call lol

I still think that Reddick has the potential to make it some day - he did bounce back pretty well last season - but this job is Kalish's to lose, and it's not exactly close at the moment. I think that Reddick's (lack of) ability to get on-base will hurt his ML prospects, as pitchers will just eat him alive given how aggressive he is at the plate.

Reddick needs a place where he'll start in AAA for 2011 then, assuming good things, will be handed a spot for 2012 without much competition. He has tools, but his head doesn't seem in it enough to make it in Boston. Until you break it with the big club, you need to be ready for anything, and he just isnt

Why would we platoon Kalish? I think he'll get a good shot at playing a full season before we decide whether he needs to be platooned or not.

Plus, if you look at our LH hitters, you've got Crawford, with a career .270 average vs LHP, Gonzo who just came off a huge year vs LHP and has a career .262 avg vs LHP, Ells has a career .307 avg vs LHP. So even though we've got a few lefties in the line up, they all hit lefties well enough that it shouldn't be an issue.

By the way - sorry to hear about your parents. My dad passed in April of 2009, so I know how hard it is to lose one parent but I can't imagine losing both so close together.

Most young left handed hitters have trouble with southpaws at least initially. I just think they'll platoon him in his first year to take off some of the pressure.

Thanks for the expression of sympathy. I had both parents for a long time. They lived in their own home and took care of themselves and each other until the end. Losing them both so closely in time was a huge shock, but I have a lot to be thankful about.

Thank god this is the last year of Drew. So sick of this hamstring garbage. I'd rather see a Kalish/Cameron Platoon out there this year. Hell that'll probably end up being most of RF this year

doesn't kalish have a vastly superior arm? obviously a fenway right field necessity..ive been in california intermittently, so ive seen a decent amount of reddick and very little of kalish..i know reddick can run, he looked like a decent outfielder..does kalish have comparable speed?

Before you pencil him in for the 2012 RF spot, you need to see how he responds to an entire yr in AAA. In the bigs, he held his own and showed flashes but was still a minus in terms of COF spot, although he was just 22. There are a lot of prospects that get chewed up at the AAA level, and before you go handing him that spot, you'd really want to see him progress even further.

I cant stand Drew either, but I can actually see him having a monster season.

Its what JD Drew does, there is money potentially to be made, and he will make it.

Have your monster contract season JD, then get the hell out!!!!

Kalish's rookie campaign is better than you're acting like it was. As an unfinished rookie with limited high minors experience, he came up into the bigs and put up a .710 OPS, hit HR's at about a 15 HR pace over 600 at bats, and stole bases at a 30+ rate over a full season.

Over a full season he was on pace for 40 doubles, 15 homers, 35 stolen bases. This as a rookie with maybe half a year in the high minors before 2010. All he needed to put up credible numbers was push his average into the .270 range by collecting 3 more hits, and push the OBP into the .340 range by some combination of 7 more hits and walks. He was a LOT closer to the kind of consistency you really want to see in a big league starting RF than you're making out. One slump that wouldn't be there if he was a finished product is all it would have taken.

I think this kid has an outside shot at 30-30. It depends mostly on the power, he's already demonstrated that kind of speed, but we saw enough out of him that frankly I'm excited about where his power bat could take him. I think Johnny Damon with a right fielder's arm is a conservative prediction for the kid.

Johnny Damon is a conservative prediction? Cmon man. Damon has 2500 hits' date=' 212HR and almost 400 stolen bases. You'd jump for joy if he turned out to be Johnny Damon.[/quote']

Indeed. But Kalish has the potential to exceed Damon. It comes down to whether he can put it together.

I think you are stretching it, and by stretching it I mean by alot.

Johnny Damon is most likely a HOF'er.

You are ready to call Kalish a HOF caliber player based on some minor league stats?

Damon a HOF? Hmm' date=' I don't know about that.[/quote']

He will have 2700 hits by the years end. Hes said he will play til he gets 3000.

Right now he is 429 hits shy, and he doesnt turn 38 til next November. If he plays til he is 40 he needs to average about 140 hits a season for 3 more years.

Hes also 15 SB away from 400 career and 13 2B away from 500 career.

Hes not that far away from being a lock. If he gets 3000, no doubt.

Exactly. Remember, the HOF committee are stat junkies. 3000 hits is a guarantee. Then factor in his power, patience and speed and you really need to consider it a likelihood. I bet he goes in as a Royal, but there is an outside chance he could go in as a Red Sox

How much longer of a leash does JD get?

Hes been absolutely terrible, thankfully we have been winning. I think there is a strong possibility that a deal gets done at the deadline to either platoon with JD or take over completely for the rest of the year as it appears Cameron is also toast.

Thoughts?

They're landmark junkies. There's certain landmarks that equal to sure HOFer. 3000 hits, 500 homers. For pitchers, obviously 3000 Ks, 300 wins.

Peak of his career plus the WS, I think he goes in with a B on his cap.
