We have JDs and Johnny Damons alternately being discussed. It can get confusing.

I'm betting Damon "retires" before he gets to 3000 hits. Sometimes players just don't get a choice to hang on to reach a goal. Maybe Tampa Bay or some team will want to pay him for what he can produce, but I am guessing he is out before.

How much longer of a leash does JD get?

Hes been absolutely terrible, thankfully we have been winning. I think there is a strong possibility that a deal gets done at the deadline to either platoon with JD or take over completely for the rest of the year as it appears Cameron is also toast.

Thoughts?

I was referring to JD Drew.

He's injured at the moment.

I believe it's planned for him to play in the OF by the end of the month (in the minors). I think that we might see him this year for a little bit more than just a September call-up, I think the Sox would like to take another look at Kalish before they figure out their strategy for RF next offseason.

He'll need less than 300 hits after this season. He could do that in 2 seasons. I think he hangs on, and I think someone will have a slot for him. If he gets it, he goes to Cooperstown.

I didn't know they were opening a wing in the Hall for traitorous douchebags.

Not singling you out here, but why do people still hold this ridiculous opinion? The guy is a baseball player. He was an employee of a business, not a life long Red Sox fan born in New England. He played here for 4 out of his so far 16 year career. If came up through the system and played here from 1995-2005 I'd say this sort of attitude is slightly warranted.

Don't any of you say you would not take a longer, more expensive contract from a competitor of the business you work for after the one you currently work for low-balled you and thought you were in the decline of your career. You'd be bullshitting if you said you wouldn't take that opportunity.

Damon's a .750 OPS DH right now and will be 38 this offseason. Something tells me the market won't be very big for him, and I'd be shocked if he got enough playing time to reach the mark.

I wouldn't hold such a grudge if it weren't for the "I can't play for the Yankees" comment. He sold out and if there's any doubt that he's a D-Bag, please refer to this article:

I'm sorry but JD ruined his legacy the very second he signed with New York, I've hated him since and will continue to do so.

Still wouldn't call him a douchebag. The fact he said "I wouldn't play for the Yankees" doesn't mean anything. What else is he going to say being interviewed in Boston? "Yeah, I'd totally play for the Yankees, I don't care."? He'd be hated while still playing here. Hating him is petty. I don't even care about that s*** he said after the Yankees won the WS either. It's all PR talk. He's not going to say "Yeah winning the world series with the red sox was the greatest thing ever" while still playing in NY. That would be stupid.

Don't seriously believe what these people have to say about things like that. It's stupid to do so.

Eh, agree to disagree I guess. I don't like the guy and don't think I ever will, you happen to think differently.

Most American League teams have someone in the designated hitter role. Every year there are new, cheaper candidates for remaining designated hitter positions. I find it hard to believe he hangs on to get 3,000.

Pap has gone on record to say that he would entertain playing for the yanks.... at least he had the balls to say it...

I think the Soriano deal killed the chance of Papelbon going to the Yankees... despite how much Papelbon wanted to go to New York.

i agree. i still like having him around, i'm just not as confident in him as i once was. i used to feel great when he stepped onto the mound, but nowadays i'm kinda like," Uhhhhhhh......". i was just referring to the johnny damon never going to new york comment.

I'm watching MLB network and they are talking about the whole dodgers situation. They were saying how the dodgers might start trading away players this year because they cant afford them.Andre Ethier contract runs out after this year,Maybe the Redsox try to get him??

Dodgers will get sold. McCourt borrowed money to buy the Dodgers. Now he's borrowed more money to pay the team salaries. The guy has no money of his own. He is about to be foreclosed.

I wonder what it might take to get Ryan Ludwick. The Padres do not need him this season but might like another prospect from the Sox. I'd really like to see Ludwick and Heath Bell in Sox uniforms.

What's the word on Hunter Pence? I've heard he might be on the move. Be a nice replacement for Ronald McDonald and JD Vagina

Heard about this too. He's a 25 HR, .290 hitter. His OPS would probably be helped out by playing at Fenway. Pretty even career splits (.286 vs LHP, .291 vs RHP). Probably would be a good addition. Arbitration eligible for the first time in 2012. Doesn't hit FA until 2014. Would probably cost a boat of prospects because the Astros overvalue him.

Two and a half years of Hunter Pence will likely be costly, even if he is getting into later arbitration years. I think Theo will be looking for someone who is at the end of their contract, but if they could get Pence for Kalish +1, it might be worth it.

@ SFF it looks like he was a super two in 2010.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported recently that Pence wasn't likely to be moved. Jim Crane wouldn't want to begin his ownership of the Astros by dealing their best player.

Tim Dierkes reported the Padres were interested in trading impending free agents Heath Bell and Chad Qualls. Aquiring one or both to the bullpen plus Ludwick to play rightfield for the rest of this season, and the Sox would be a significantly better team.

i love the fact that the dodgers still owe manny a ton of money!!! loved the guy for a while' date=' but that guy was a freaking headache everywhere he went....[/quote']

I was so happy when we made the Bay trade.

i bet the mets aren't....

 My brother is a Mets fan and I love hearing him bitch about Bay, we got 1 and a half solid seasons out of him and he's a blackhole with New York. He complains about how he was only good because he got to hit in Fenway, music to my ears.
