Listen, lets not even go down that road, because then it will only turn into the argument about who really put those teams together.

Duquette, Theo.....or the guys who pulled off the trade for Lowell and Beckett.

Lets not go down that road.

They WILL NOT get AGON if they dont pay him and give him 8 years. Simple as that. With little remaining of real worth on the market, they are screwed if they dont complete this trade.

While we're at it, we can also debate which one caused Teixeira to not end up in Boston... ;)

I thought the Red Sox bought the tickets back through an intermediary, or something? I never thought much of the sell-out streak anyway. It's just one of those stories that sound cool, but doesn't ultimately mean much at the end of the day. Like how Kalish never swung-and-missed a pitch senior year; cool story, but it doesn't necessarily translate into production.

This all just pisses me off.

If there was ever a no-brainer deal in the history of the world, giving Gonzales 8 years is it. This is why we keep losing players to the freakin' Yankers.

I'm tired of having conversations with people about why the Red Sox couldn't get this guy and why the Red Sox couldn't get that guy. They have more money than anyone but the Yankers. Gonzales was born to hit in a screwy park like Fenway.

Yeah, I know he could still end up traded to Boston. But right now I'm frickin' pissed off. If Theo was standing in front of me know I'd kick him square in the ass.

Feeling heartened. The Sox don't want to let this one slip through their hands. They really don't.

I just don't want to have to listen to the douchebags here complaining about the FO dropping the ball again if they are going to get the deal done.

Others have mentioned it, and I tend to agree with it.......

this might not be Theo.

He might have his hands tied here.

John Henry is a moron and Werner runs/promotes the Red Sox like they are a comic book/tv series.

I think we all learned a valuable lesson here.

This is what happens when you don't bring the troops home from Iraq. ;)

From everything I've heard out of Heyman, Rosenthal, and Pete Abraham, the hangup is specifically over the amount of years involved. Gonzo wants us to guarantee him through age 36, the Sox would prefer to pay more over 6 years to cover themselves when he gets old.

They need to give him 7-8 years and be done with it. No excuses.

Don't understand why Gonzalez would be against this (assuming each situation amounts to equal pay for him). If he's looking okay when the Red Sox' ideal agreement is up, he might earn himself a better contract then than when his ideal agreement runs out.

He may not be the shrewdest owner in baseball when it comes to the actual management of the team, but you don't accumulate the kind of wealth Henry has by being a moron. He knows what he's doing on the business side of things. And at the end of the day, that's what the Sox are... a business. That's not how we see it as fans, but that's how it is.

its f***ing dumb if the # of years is the only thing stopping them

I doubt that it's the only thing. I'm sure that AAV has something to do with it, and the Sox don't want to give up the players for a rental. I'm sure the number of years is the main factor, but it can't be the only factor.

Worst case scenario, they should give Gonzalez close to what he wants, and then have donation baskets around the city of boston and at Fenway to help pay for the extra bit of Gonzalez's contract. I'm sure we'd all pitch in a bit here and there if it meant getting Gonzalez, wouldn't we?

I bet this is somehow Julio Lugo's fault.

Definitely not you. Sorry, I was writing quickly while trying to entertain friends/family in my livingroom without looking distracted (tough to do today).

The douchebags I was refering to were people who complain on WEEI (hosts and callers), though I was entirely unclear about that. Sorry man. You're not a douchebag.

I'm sorry if it bothers you, but I feel like I put in enough time thinking about, rooting for, and defending the Red Sox that I should be allowed to be a DOUCHEBAG on occasion when they disappoint me.

Heymann on Comcast saying that Agon wanted 8 years and Sox were offering 5 maybe 6. Neither side moved at all. It's not over, but doesn't look good. Not much new info, but the fact that he said 5-6 not 6 was interesting

Until we know what the terms of the offers were, I'm hesitant to start faulting one side or the other. My initial rage is lessening and reasonable Example1 is coming back... slowly but surely.

Before I got to bed tonight I will be optimistic again.

Is there anything preventing San Diego from signing Gonzalez to a deal and then trading him, thus eliminating any need to renegotiate a "window"?

Now your talking. But your ratings are low and your team stinks and have zero excitment. That and scalpers are selling at discount prices and 3 other teams in town are decent. So as a business their screwed now and as a team they suck. So either way Yawkee way is drowning lol

5-6 years? If that is true, this team will NEVER land a Super Star quality player via free agency. f***in' joke if that is true.

I stopped listening to EEI.

I hate Felger but I like the fact he is objective. He is not afraid to criticize his own mother.

Point taken. It's a business. But if he thinks that taking a purely business approach gets him points when he/they piss down their collective legs on possibly the best player available this or next season, he/they are sadly mistaken.

If he/they wanted to run the place like a company, they should have bought the goddamn Pirates or something.

I'm sick and tired of coming in second on signing big names.

Shut up. They owe you nothing. You're not a priority.

Why the f*** do so many fans have this ridiculous sense of entitlement?
