Yankees signed Andruw Jones for $2 million. I'm glad to have him on the team! Now let's look around for a starter.
Posted

He had 64 hits last year, and 19 HR. That's freaking crazy. Basically 30% of his hits are HR.

But - he hasn't hit over .260 since 2006 and Yankee Stadium is a hitters park for lefties, not so much for righties.

Yeah I agree with that, Toronto too. And the Jays have 3 lefties in their rotation, so I'm sure Jones will get plenty of PT against them.

The Sox only have Lester, and he's a pretty tough pitcher, so Jones may not get too many AB's against Boston at Fenway.

You think if Pettitte comes back, you'll be as good as you were last year?

Even if he does come back, it's pretty crazy to think he'll post a sub 3.30 ERA again.

Bounceback from Burnett, 2nd full year of Hughes and a lockdown pen will compensate that.

You would have to be a freakin' homer to not accept that the Yankees have improved their team a little.

That might have been the most unintentionally funny thing thus far not said by Suns.

No the key will be the $18 million left, and an improving farm system. I think we could end up with Felix midseason or even Dan Haren as the Angels just take it hard this year.

I'm sorry. Um. WHAT?

First off - Felix is 110% not available.

Second - There would be about 15 teams in on this if he was available

Third - If you trade for Felix, you'd be giving up Montero + Brackman + Gardner + a few others.

Which brings me to Fourth - You can't have an improving farm system AND Felix. It's one or the other. Felix will cost your farm.

I'm saying we have an improving farm and cap space to add Felix. Who knows if Felix will be traded or not. He could always be, you never know with baseball. I know it's going to take a lot, if it only cost Gardner, Montero and Brackman and "a few others" there would be more than just a few teams in it. I'm prepared for the price. Jesus, Banuelos, Brett, etc etc etc. Anyone but Hughes and Cano, IMO.

What about Jesus Christ? I hear he may be traded during the deadline, and the Yankees have the money and the prospects, and since the Yankees get what they want (See: Lee,Cliff) why not go out and get Jesus Christ? I'm sure he could make your pitching staff infinitely better.

Not to mention the fact that Felix has a no trade clause that includes the Yankees, which I'm sure he would waive if they gave him a CC-like extension, but now you're talking about cream of the crop prospects, plus MLB ready players, plus 22-25mm a year.

If the Mariners ever do make Felix available, they're going to dick someone over hard for him. They definitely won't trade him unless they can 'win' the trade.

I know I'd be willing to do it. IMO, he's the only player I'd do that for in baseball and be happy. I'm not saying it will happen, I'm just throwing out some possibilities. The Yankees can afford Felix in terms of players and money, they have a need and the M's aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They could end up trading him at the deadline or even next off season they can.

As for Haren... same thing, angels are going to get buried alive. There is always a chance I guess, but the A's and Rangers, IMHO will grab hold of that division and run with it while the M's and Angels struggle. I'm not going to throw a fit if you guys think the Angels have a shot though, anything can happen. Except the Cubs winning the world series of course.

If you're going to gut the farm system over someone, Felix would be the guy. And while it is true that the Mariners desperately need hitting, I just don't see them being sellers with a young generational talent like him.

Well, I dont expect the M's to deal Felix this season. I do expect him to be on the block in the offseason, though. His salary for 2010 was $6.5 million. In 2011, it will be $10 million, but in 2012, he jumps to $18.5 million, $19.5 million in 2013 and $20 million in 2014. That's a hefty 3yrs and $58 million after this season. If the prospects the M's obtained (Smoak +) and their own rooks (Saunders especially) don't make a major step forward in 2011, then they might enter full out rebuilding mode. And there is no better way to do that than to deal away the best pitcher in baseball who is 24 yrs old who is locked up for 3 more seasons. Right now, there is no reason for the M's to deal him. But I have a feeling he gets moved prior to the 2012 season
Posted
I'll concede that point. If Smoak and Saunders flame out, they might look to rebuild in 2012. Don't forget about Ackley, too. I believe they're planning on moving Figgins to third this season. Ackley will be up by May, if not sooner.

Even if Smoak and Saunders turn to be stars. Montero is the 2nd best position prospect in baseball behind Trout. They have absolutely no depth at catcher. They'll also be interested in an a couple of our top-100 pitching prospects.

There's definitely a possibility. It's impossible to know what Cashman is thinking, but it wouldn't surprise me. If he does leave, I wonder if Oppenheimer would get a shot.

Whomever it is, they will have to be ok with Hank and Hal having the final word. I'm actually surprised Cashman has hung in along as he has. I think what you have to worry about if Cashman leaves, is who he takes with him from the current FO and Scouting departments.
