Awful play by Swisher, but Andy has come up really small tonight.

EDIT: And Swisher's play cost them a run. Can't put tonight on the injuries, the heart of the order and Pettitte have been awful.

I hate to sound like Gom here, but Cervelli may have hurt Pettitte that inning. Cervelli has become obsessed with the snap throw (which hurts the Yankees more than it helps them), and he may have cost Pettitte the second pitch against Crawford by throwing down to second. That AB, and the entire inning, may have ended much differently had that pitch been called a strike.

I flipped over in between commercials of the Sox game' date=' and that throw down to second was pointless. Not even remotely close.[/quote']

It almost never is. It'd be nice if someone on the coaching staff talked to Cervelli about doing that much less. He hasn't gotten anyone yet this year, and has thrown the ball away.

Excuse me for being a homer but I think this Rays team is playing pretty good baseball. Their starting pitching and defense has won them a lot of games.

The talking heads continue to mention timely hitting but that's only half of the story. Team speed and aggressive base running sets up those timely hits. Double steals, safety squeeze bunts, stretching doubles into triples. This team attempts to get the max out of every base runner and so far it's paying off. They've even given fat arse Navarro the green light. (he always gets thrown out though...)

Point is when the Rays show up at your park, they're gonna' give you everything they have and I hear everybody saying it's not gonna' last and maybe you're right but I know it's not going to be for lack of effort. These Rays are coming to do what they do and at some point you might want to admit they're a pretty good ball club. At least until their legs fall off. :harhar:

This Rays team is very good...

Somebody wake their fanbase up.

*sorry, couldn't resist.

But on a more serious note...

I think this Rays team could really get their fanbase energized with a few changes. Change gametime to 4:30 pm, feature Early Bird Special night catered by Red Lobster.

Have "Born in 1930 Night".

And please hire George Costanza's father. Genius runs in the Costanza veins. Look what wonders George Costanza did for big Stein when he was a Yankee employee..

Their fan base is ok, they're averaging over 21,000 a game but there always has been a grudge between Tampa and St Petersburg even before the team was awarded to this area. (Long story explained in another thread here)

However, investors are currently in place with plans to build a new stadium in Tampa and if all that happens, attendance with rise dramatically. The money and population is in Tampa, St Petersburg is mostly retired fixed income.

Personally I think it will happen based on investors wanting to buy into a winner but it will be several years off before they can get it done.

I doubt the Rays will be able to maintain their success for more then a few years, Rays owner said the 70mil payroll they have this year won't even be 60 in 2011, most likely down to 50. Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena will be gone, and only a matter of time before there other big players will want big contracts. Along with being in the same division as the Red Sox and Yankees, they are destined to fail.

You know what's sad? The fact that Divinity is right and many Yankee (and Red Sox) fans are fine with the broken system because it benefits the team they like.

Javy is optimistic that he'll be able to make his next start.

As for Mo, I actually think he was very sharp tonight. The location and velocity were both there, it was the pitch selection that was horrendous. Bay and Davis were standing so far off the plate that the cutters on the inside corner resembled pitches right down the middle to the hitters.

I don't remember a Yankees fan on this site ever claiming that their favorite team doesn't benefit greatly due to the system.

Where do you read that I've said they deny it? The sad part, is that they readily admit and are fine with the inequity because they benefit from it. The sad part is the greediness.

Why would the Mets bring in this kid, Mejia in the 7th to protect a 4-1 lead. He starts off giving up a hit to the #9 hitter and walked Jeter on 4 pitches.

Bay is 4 for 4 tonight against the Yankees. He sucks.

1 HR on the season. He's not paid to hit singles. They have Luis Castillo for that.

6 steals and 3 triples. His knees must be aching. His HRs will come. CitiField sucks for power hitters. He will not hit 36 like he did for the Red Sox, but he will hit 25 +

He has a .942 OPS at home. .585 on the road. Citi argument is moot. Maybe it's not the knees, but the shoulder?

this team is just dead right now. Tex cannot hit right now, which is absolutely killing us. If he starts hitting again, then we start scoring. Until then, we might need to wait until the injury brigade return

Won't hit 25+ OPS'ing under .600 on the road. Something's wrong with him, and it's probably in his head.

But hey, if he can turn it around, why can't Lackey? Just food for thought.

Also, funny side note, Beltre has a higher SLG% than Bay.

What does Bay have to do with Lackey? :dunno:

It was a general response. You're not part of the "Lackey sucks, should've signed Bay" squad, but it does have its members.
