Not about an individual game, but WOW are the Padres choking. Up 6.5 on August 26, now only up 1. This weekend's series against the Giants is huge. And don't sleep on the Rockies, only 4.5 back after sweeping San Diego. Another strong September run gets them in.

Go Rockies!

Can you imagine? The playoff picture this season being Atlanta, Cincinatti, St. Louis/Philly, and San Diego/San Fransisco/Colorado?

I would LOVE to see a Rangers-Rockies or Rays-Padres (or Rangers-Padres, Rays-Rockies) WS. That way we'd be guaranteed to see a team win its first Series.

It would also guarantee that it would be the World Series with the lowest TV ratings by far.

 True' date=' but I'd still watch and enjoy seeing a team win it.[/quote']That's us. We're sick baseball fans, but the rest of America will not watch. The executives in Baseball don't like that. The Yankees are good ratings, and that is why they like the game tilted in favor of the Yankees. It's been shown that even the small market teams feed at the trough and make a ton of money.

Then they are small minded. The NFL has a cap, more parity, and is still #1. I think baseball can still get to #1, but they need to fix the problems in the game, particularly the big-3: game length (pace of play), poor/inconsistent officiating, and the spending disparity.

I completely agree that the pace of play is something that turns fans away, and baseball would be more profitable if they sped up the games, but when it comes to your personal enjoyment of the games, do you have an issue with the pace of play?

I like your solution, but it would be much more difficult to implement than to just allow the Yanks to continue their domination and get high ratings with them going deep into October. It seems that everyone profits tremendously under this system, and they don't have to change anything. They will not make the changes you mentiion until they start feeling a financial pinch.

I agree, which is why I think they are small minded. They can reap greater profits, IMO, if they supplant football as #1. To do so will take change, and change is painful. It's rare when the right thing to do is the easiest.

It's rare when the right thing to do is the easiest.[/quote']They were happy to reap the profits of the late 1990's when a Home Run Derby form of the game was being played by obvious juicers, because it was bringing in the dough. They allowed the game to become permanently stained destroying the integrity of its statistics in the process. The current system rigs the sport in favor of the big market teams, and eventually like with the steroids, this will have a very detrimental long term effect on the game IMO. The sport needs an independent commissioner. Selig is a whore with no integrity and no objectivity. He has gotten the owners rich, so he is beloved by them.

I'd still buy a ticket to watch Manny hit.

That makes him better than he currently is? Or is your point that a few extra ticket purchases are worth the $4.3M Spud is laughing about? I don't see the relevance of this comment.

I enjoy watching him hit. That's the relevance of the comment. I don't feel it necessary to either counter or agree with every post that I quote. That's your styly not mine.

Then it stands on it's own and is not a response to what Spud posted. Don't you see that? When you quote something, and you take a contrarian position, it looks like you are engaging in debate. While your intent may not be to counter, you package it like you are. Anyway, it was an honest question, and I can see you aren't in the mood to be questioned, so I'll leave you alone.
