Cameron's had a better WAR than Bay in each of the last 3 years.

That just means that the difference between Cameron and a replacement level CF is greater than the difference between Bay and a replacement level LF in wins. Consider positional adjustment my friend.

Maybe I'm missing something, but weren't you banned?

Still even when you make the simple position adjustments (+2.5 runs for a CF and -7.5 for a LF) Cameron's 43 Runs above replacement becomes 43 - (2.5+7.5) = 33.2 which is only roughly 2 runs below Bays production.

Though still I'm extremely skeptical of UZR so I'm not sure I trust this analysis very much.

The difference will be just as great if Cameron mans center and Ellsbury moves to left considering Ells' bad defense in center.

So what? We still get Cameron at the fraction of the price without having to surrender a draft pick. Bay most likely nets us a first rounder and a sandwich pick, and we get similar OVERALL production for Cameron. Is Bay really going to be worth 5/80 when he's a DH three years down the road?

Agree, but his WAR would be 3.3 instead of 4.3, so it's a downgrade of a full win. They're better keeping him in CF, with Ellsbury moving to LF, with his career 21.8 UZR in LF, should be good for about 3.3 wins.

Yeah, since we don't know how Cameron's UZR will translate from CF to LF, the analysis is not very accurate.

Watching Cameron's press conference' date=' he has Lugo's number 23[/quote']

So within less than a year, four guys have worn the number: Lugo, LaRoche, Gathright and now Cameron

I thought that was interesting. Historically he's worn 44 and 25 (he also wore 24 with the White Sox when he came up). I wonder if when the Lowell deal goes through he switches to 25, opening up 23 for a possible Adrian Gonzalez acquisition.
