  1. I could consider trading Ellsbury for Gonzalez, but Ellsbury + Buchholz is too much IMO.
  2. So what? We still get Cameron at the fraction of the price without having to surrender a draft pick. Bay most likely nets us a first rounder and a sandwich pick, and we get similar OVERALL production for Cameron. Is Bay really going to be worth 5/80 when he's a DH three years down the road?
  3. Why would one of the top 3 center fielders in the game move to left for Ellsbury? Ellsbury's had a hard time judging balls out there, if anything Cameron should be our starting center fielder and Ellsbury should learn and watch from him in left for a year or two.
  4. I'd be in favor of this signing. I don't think the Sox are willing to spend the money for Bay/Holliday after signing Lackey, so why not go after Cameron? Cameron has had 4 straight seasons of 20+ home runs so he still has some pop in his bat, and he's the best defensive center fielder in the game. He's posted UZR's of 10, and 12 the past two years IN CENTERFIELD while in comparison, Bay has posted UZR's of lower than -10 with the Sox while in left field. Every run that Cameron doesn't make with the bat, he saves with the glove. WAR, even places him as a better player than Bay, having Cameron worth 4.0 wins in 3 of the past 4 seasons. While in comparison Bay's around 3. As a stopgap for a year or two to wait for a better option (Kalish, or future FA), Cameron's a great option.
  5. Update: Heyman still not sure whether the Mariners are getting Lee.
  6. twitter.com/SI_JonHeyman/status/6673019520 They've agreed to send Halladay to Philly, Lee to Seattle and prospects to Toronto. The reason Lee is traded is because they couldn't agree to a long term deal with him. He just wasn't willing to take a discount to stay in Philadelphia. Now, either the Phillies believe Halladay is more likely to sign an extension, they'll be granted a window to talk with Halladay, or maybe they just thought since they'd have either one of them for one year, they might as well just trade for the better pitcher.
  7. I agree completely, 17 per year is not too bad considering that Halladay would cost more than that in addition to Buchholz and Kelly. Plus, Lackey is younger than Halladay, and he's been a legit ace with the Angels.
  8. C- Yes, having a 38 year old catcher who can't play his position any more is an advantage, sorry I forgot how to reason things out like a Yankee fan. 2B-In every year Pedroia's been in the big leagues, he's had a more productive year than Cano with the exception of his rookie season. DH-The Yankees don't have Damon/Matsui under contract
  9. Angels are reportedly very intrigued by Bay as are the Seattle Mariners. Both teams have had conversations about Bay. What this means for the Red Sox: If Bay walks, and the Atlanta Braves do not sign another type A free agent, the Sox hold the 20 (Wagner), (18 or 28 if Bay signs with LA or SEA) and two 1st round sandwhich picks around the 30-40 pick range. These picks are guaranteed, no matter how many type A's the Sox sign, we will get these picks if Bay walks. This is partly why I've always preferred Holliday>Bay. (that and he's just a better player IMO)
  10. Thank God. http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2009/12/07/casey-kelly-commits-to-pitching/
  11. It's a 2 year 12 million deal, it's not that horrible, the only bad thing was the draft pick, which should not be too big of a deal if we sign other type A's and Bay walks.
