  1. I could consider trading Ellsbury for Gonzalez, but Ellsbury + Buchholz is too much IMO.
  2. So what? We still get Cameron at the fraction of the price without having to surrender a draft pick. Bay most likely nets us a first rounder and a sandwich pick, and we get similar OVERALL production for Cameron. Is Bay really going to be worth 5/80 when he's a DH three years down the road?
  3. Why would one of the top 3 center fielders in the game move to left for Ellsbury? Ellsbury's had a hard time judging balls out there, if anything Cameron should be our starting center fielder and Ellsbury should learn and watch from him in left for a year or two.
  4. I'd be in favor of this signing. I don't think the Sox are willing to spend the money for Bay/Holliday after signing Lackey, so why not go after Cameron? Cameron has had 4 straight seasons of 20+ home runs so he still has some pop in his bat, and he's the best defensive center fielder in the game. He's posted UZR's of 10, and 12 the past two years IN CENTERFIELD while in comparison, Bay has posted UZR's of lower than -10 with the Sox while in left field. Every run that Cameron doesn't make with the bat, he saves with the glove. WAR, even places him as a better player than Bay, having Cameron worth 4.0 wins in 3 of the past 4 seasons. While in comparison Bay's around 3. As a stopgap for a year or two to wait for a better option (Kalish, or future FA), Cameron's a great option.
  5. Update: Heyman still not sure whether the Mariners are getting Lee.
  6. twitter.com/SI_JonHeyman/status/6673019520 They've agreed to send Halladay to Philly, Lee to Seattle and prospects to Toronto. The reason Lee is traded is because they couldn't agree to a long term deal with him. He just wasn't willing to take a discount to stay in Philadelphia. Now, either the Phillies believe Halladay is more likely to sign an extension, they'll be granted a window to talk with Halladay, or maybe they just thought since they'd have either one of them for one year, they might as well just trade for the better pitcher.
  7. I agree completely, 17 per year is not too bad considering that Halladay would cost more than that in addition to Buchholz and Kelly. Plus, Lackey is younger than Halladay, and he's been a legit ace with the Angels.
  8. C- Yes, having a 38 year old catcher who can't play his position any more is an advantage, sorry I forgot how to reason things out like a Yankee fan. 2B-In every year Pedroia's been in the big leagues, he's had a more productive year than Cano with the exception of his rookie season. DH-The Yankees don't have Damon/Matsui under contract
  9. Angels are reportedly very intrigued by Bay as are the Seattle Mariners. Both teams have had conversations about Bay. What this means for the Red Sox: If Bay walks, and the Atlanta Braves do not sign another type A free agent, the Sox hold the 20 (Wagner), (18 or 28 if Bay signs with LA or SEA) and two 1st round sandwhich picks around the 30-40 pick range. These picks are guaranteed, no matter how many type A's the Sox sign, we will get these picks if Bay walks. This is partly why I've always preferred Holliday>Bay. (that and he's just a better player IMO)
  10. Thank God. http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2009/12/07/casey-kelly-commits-to-pitching/
  11. It's a 2 year 12 million deal, it's not that horrible, the only bad thing was the draft pick, which should not be too big of a deal if we sign other type A's and Bay walks.
  12. 1. We already get the 20th pick from Wagner, it probably will cost us the second or third pick assuming we sign some of the other type A's (probable): Soriano, Gonzalez, Holliday. 2. Tejada can't hit outside Houston, he can't play shortstop for his life anymore, and who knows? He might actually 40. Cabrera... come on, his defense is rapidly declining and his OPS is, well, almost non existent. 3. No. But seeing as we have no better option and it's only a two year deal, and he can play 4 other positions, it's not horrible.
  13. Yeah and who's better? Bobby Crosby?
  14. Boston Herald: http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/red_sox/index.php/2009/12/03/red-sox-and-scutaro-reach-preliminary-agreement-2-yr-deal-pending-physical/ two years w/ option Unnamed Venezuelan Newspaper: 2 years 10 million
  15. oh come on, Scutaro for 2 years is not that bad, considering we have no other options.
  16. HALLELUJAH!!! Ed Price from AOLFanhouse: It's a 2 year deal. http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2009/12/03/source-red-sox-agree-to-sign-shortstop-marco-scutaro/
  17. There's been atleast 30 twitter updates from venezuelan reporters on this in the last 20 minutes... all of them a little bit different. Translations: RT @IgnacioSerrano: Marco Scutaro confirm? desde EEUU a un ejecutivo de #Leones que el acuerdo es pr?cticamente un hecho. S?lo falta que Scutaro confirmed from the US to an executive of the Lions that the agreement is practically done. All that's missing is... Vamos a ver, porque otra fuente familiar dice que todav?a falta. Boston estar?a ofreciendo dos a?os. We'll see, because another familiar source says that something is still lacking. Boston would be offering two years. La firma de Scutaro con Boston, aunque no es 100% oficial, fue difundida por compa?eros del medio con amplia credibilidad. The account of Scutaro signing with Boston, although it is not 100% official, was spread by friends in the media with high credibility. And newest updates: The agreement between Marco Scutaro and BoSox is for 3 seasons, told me the same #Leones executive whom just contacted him few minutes ago. Rotoworld: Sources close to Marco Scutaro told Venezuela-based Lider that the free agent has agreed to terms with the Red Sox. Be very, very skeptical for now. The Red Sox and Scutaro are almost certainly talking, but none of the multitude of Red Sox sources have reported that a deal is done or close or even that money has been discussed.
  18. Orlando Hudson was just denied an arbitration offer from the Dodgers. The type A free agent won't cost a draft pick anymore.
  19. When he played SS at Arizona, he was named Defensive Player of the year for his conference. SO he clearly was very good defensively at that position at one point. Pedroia was a shortstop in the minors, he was moved from shortstop to second base not because of his inability to play there, but because old friend Hanley Ramirez was blocking the position.
  20. Have to love Pedroia's quote on this. I honestly believe he could be an above average shortstop. He has a good arm, decent range and a great glove, plus he was great at the position in amateur levels. Finding a second baseman will be a lot easier, the market is loaded this offseason with them. Want power? Trade for Dan Uggla. Want defense? Sign Orlando Hudson. Hudson Polanco Lopez Phillips Uggla Are all available. The Red Sox have a couple near all-star caliber second basemen to pick from in that group.
  21. Please God give me Holliday. Bay's defense is horrible, I don't want an overpriced DH a few years down the road. He didn't accept 4 years 60 million, the Red Sox shouldn't go a cent over that. Thanks for the memories, I'll take the draft picks and the obviously superior younger player.
