Bay is all but gone. If the Sox "had" the money they would sign Holliday because he is the better player. I'm all in favor of improving the OF Defense. You move Ellsbury to LF where he has been better in years past and put Cameron in CF, along with Drew, thats a solid OF.

If it's for two years as reported' date=' I would say 7-8M per year.[/quote']

Two years is one year too much for a guy this old.

Consider that instead of a true platoon, we might have a 4 starting outfielders scenario. Cameron plays for whoever Tito wants to sit that day in a flexible but regular rotation Since Cameron plays well in CF and LF and can at least fake it in RF, unless Hermida is totally worthless, that's a way to make sure everyone rests regularly

CD, if the Yankees sign Holliday, there is no way they resign Damon. This is for a couple reasons...

1. Because of their words, and their actions, it appears as if the Yankees aren't willing to spend a ton of money this offseason. It would probably be a stretch for them to even sign Holliday, and if they do that, I don't see them bringing Damon back.

2. The whole idea of letting Matsui go, while making no way attempt to retain him, is to create flexibility in the DH spot (Rodriguez, Posada, Jeter, and Damon if he comes back). Signing both Holliday and Damon would not allow them to do this.

I can absolutely see the Yankees signing Holliday, re-signing Damon, trading Gardner and using Melky as a 4th outfielder. Sign a guy like Sheets on top of that, that's a damn good offseason for NY. But in that scenario they could also just keep Gardner, pass on Holliday and wait for next offseason.

I have a feeling that they have a certain value attached to Holliday. If he exceeds it, then they can wait for next yr to fill that hole and sign Damon for 1 season. If he doesnt, then I wouldnt be shocked if Cashman pulled the trigger

Would you rather have Cameron for 2 years or Damon for 1 year. Damon is nowhere near the defender that Cameron is but offensvily he can't be that much better. His OPS is slighly higher but Damon has a higher OBP and BA. What kind of deal is Damon looking for anyway?

Depends on your team. With Grandy in CF and presumably Melky in LF, our OF defense is pretty solid, even if Swisher is milling about in RF. Damon would be a DH and he's a better all around hitter than Cameron. If we were looking for someone to be the primary LFer, I would take Cameron since Damon is about as bad as you can be in LF and Cameron is GG material

So...can we put to sleep the Red Sox bitching and moaning about the Yankees payroll? How much did they spend today? $100 million?

So was he signed to be the LF or CF? Dont' know if I like him being signed for two years. There goes any shot of Bay coming back or Holliday being signed. Kinda think the Sox rushed into this signing. If we can add Gonzalez I would like this deal more.

I don't like this guy at all. I watched him for an entire year with the Mets and he wasn't as good as I expected him to be offensively or defensively. He was involved in one of the most frightening plays that I have ever seen-- the head to head collision with Beltran (I think).

get back to me when the Red Sox spend more than 30% of what the Yankees spent last offseason

If he is signed to supplement Gonzalez at 1B, I like it. If this is our replacement for LF and we sign Beltre to play 3B, or allow Kotchman to start the season as a starter.....then its a dumb move. Any chance he has been singed as a fourth OF/Platoon?????? The money is a little high for a role player, but I certainly hope we are not hanging our hats on this one.

Keep in mind...the Yankees kept payroll where it was the year before. The elimination of bad salaries allowed it

The Red Sox can't spend as much as the Yankees, that's a given.

However, spending over $100 million in one day...well, you can't really cry poverty can you?

Yankees spent 423.5 million on their big three. If I'm correct anyways, I'm doing it from memory. 30% would be about 127 million

Sox this year...

85 mil for Lackey

15.5 mil for Cameron

12.5 million for Scutaro

You're already at 113 million. If you pull of the Lowell deal and sign Beltre, you're already there champ.

Stating reality is not crying. You know this, yet you cling to your delusion.

Carry on.

And even when they do squeak by that mark the Yankees will still have spent THREE TIMES as much money. No one is crying poverty but the 423mil spent on those three players can never be compared to ANYTHING until someone comes within like even 60-70% of that amount.

It took all of four posts for you to go from 30% to 60-70%. I love it.

Only to ORS would one team calling the other the Evil Empire be called stating reality.
