No the pitching is good. It's everything else that's been mediocore.

Position-by-position defense is also about or better than league average. Run prevention is fantastic, what he hasn't been able to do is consistently identify good offensive players.

if you change that to "tell the difference between good offensive players and great ones" then I'd be more inclined to agree.

That lineup had Bengie Molina hitting cleanup for the better part of 3 seasons. My initial assessment is correct.

He also signed Angel Villalona to a big bonus' date=' only to find out the guy is a murderer[/quote']

Please sit down and think about this post. Can you blame him for signing a talented kid who later did something stupid?

It's completely illogical and unreasonable.

How is it out of line? You guys would be KILLING us if one of our prospects killed a guy.

I don't know about everyone else here. But i'm not 12. That kid just ruined his life and a promising baseball career.

You are free to say whatever you wish, but seriously.......

f*** him. The life that is ruined is the one of the murdered. I have no sympathy for a cold-blooded murderer, just the victim.

[This is a generalization, not directed necessarily towards this person, who should have his day in court. I pray if he is innocent that he gets a better lawyer than Dipre.]

Don't care. I also don't care about Ugueth Urbina. There is nothing tragic about Villalona. What happened to Nick Adenhart, that's tragic.

Doubtful. He sure as hell had a better accountant than you though. I could find one in the local store. Probably one that acts his age too.

To be honest, if you lived here, you might have a different POV though. Still, i can see where you're coming from.

As for Bay, he, too, can thank his agent, in this case Joe Urbon, for pricing him out of Boston, a righty hitting-friendly ballpark/and virtual guarantee of the playoffs every year to, very likely, a pitcher's paradise in Citi Field and a Mets team that, even with him, looks to be no better than a third-place club in the NL East.

I'm told that even after the Red Sox signed Mike Cameron to play left field, Urbon went back to them to see if they would re-visit negotiations with Bay, which broke off after the agent rejected their four-year offer of just over $60 million.

That Urbon has refused to say yes to the Mets' offer of four years, $64 million while continuing to press them for a fifth year, is clear enough indication that Bay doesn't want to end up at Citi Field. But at this point, where else is he going to go?

As many of us stated here, Urbon shot himself in the foot. Now Bay doesn't wanna go to the Mets, but that's where he'll end up.

I don't understand why agents haven't caught on yet. The Sox typically have a value for a player and don't normally go above it(to a certain extent). And I like it. I know it probably cost the Sox Tex last off season. But I like how the team won't let someone bend them over a barrel. And I really like how they have pretty much ignored Boras this off season. And not played his games.

Also just an add on since I brought the topic up(Boras). If I was St. Louis I would yank my deal off the table right now. There is almost no market now for Bay and Holliday. There is the Mets and Cardinals. With SF on the outskirts. St. Louis should pull that rumored 8 year deal and make a 5 year offer, 6 at the most. Because let's be honest, who is going to top it?

And that's the truth. Looks like the classical tail wagging the dog, with the dog getting strangled by his own tail. Bay let his agent screw it up.

So what if the Sox reconsider Bay? That might free up Ellsbury in an AdGon deal. I doubt they want to spend another $15 mil, but you never know. Depends on what Beltre costs, what they do with Lowell, etc. Lots of scenarios here.

There is a mystery team on Holliday. Last year, there was a mystery team on Tex. No one believed it last year, and well, Boras wasn't bluffing, the yankees were the mystery team. The yankees didn't really improve their team all that much this year. Damon/Matsui to Granderson and Johnson. its mostly a wash, but they also traded away a pile of their bullpen. The yankees could still be looking for another outfielder-- I dont know where they'd put one, but they certainly have the money.

I don't want the Sox to trade Ellsbury. But if they sign Bay and then trade Ellsbury to the Padres for Gonzales, this would be an absolutely beastly lineup. Probably won't happen though.

It would be a killer lineup, but without a bit of speed.

Boras always has a mystery team. I don't think he does this season IMO(which could be wrong of course). The big spenders don't seem to have a need. And the FA market seems to be more "down" then the free for all they Boras was hoping for.

Like I said I would offer 5-6 years at 15M AAV(Holliday), and tell Boras to go pound sand with his mystery team if it's not enough.

What are you talking about Papi is a little speed demon.:lol:

But now on a serious point the fastest might be Pedroia.
