Jesus you guys need to settle. I didnt say he wasnt good so dont get your panties in a bunch. He simply ISNT charismatic AT ALL. You cant dispute that, I'm happy with him as our RF but why do you think he isnt loved like Nixon. Good ballplayer, no personality.

Unfortunately, everyone here would agree that they'd rather production to personality. The Sox are a ballclub, not a dating site.

No, the demands of putting together a good team aren't enough. The players not only need to be able to perform, but they have to make everyone happy in the pants too. Theo's a pussy for neglecting this all too often overlooked characteristic of roster construction.

SORRY DREW'S THE MAN!! I didnt say I'd want personality over production, idk maybe im drunk and blacked out and typed that but i dont think.... All im saying is Production + Personality is what makes a fan favorite/ dirt dog... I'd consider Pedroia and Youk in that category

Drew just simply isnt, please dont put words in my mouth

I believe the correct course of action in this case is to start a petition to get Theo removed from his position. Who cares about 2 world series and a year-to-year contender if the team has no personality?

I'll start it if the other members are up for it.

If you make a meathead comment, you should expect people to treat you like a meathead. Anything having to do with "dirtdogs" is a meatheaded view.

I didnt know this was such a touch subject with you guys haha. I dont think character should be a priority and i didnt say that. But there is something to the fact that you all feel the need to defend him to such great lengths.....

Nothing personal, but since you've been here for all of 19 seconds, it might help to know that there have been several posters who have ignored the stats and boisterously posted about their hate of Drew because he isn't a dirt dog.

Like he said it's not personal. The site has gone through some real douches, and the Drew argument always turns into a grease fire. So we tend to jump on poster's quickly to try and put the fire out before it spreads so to speak.

You probably shouldn't mention Tex either ;)

Probably your best contribution to this site.

Too kind

Forgot about the joke smiley though :D

Regarding some of these RHd hitting options like Dye and Tejada, the main issue is $$. Expect things to happen when the prices go down in January and February.

I would love it if they managed to sign Bay to a reasonable contract to have him take over DH after Ortiz leaves. It would be very much unlike this FO and wouldn't be a wise financial decision in terms of payroll, but I like Bay's bat, especially as a DH.

I wouldn't have thought this was possible, but this is another offseason where most teams are hesitant to pay much at all and this seems to be driving down prices considerably.

I think there's a good chance they go after Dunn to be the DH next off season. Just seems like a good fit.

Its nothing personal its just that your average fan apparently still pays more attention to RBIs than OBP and OPS, and the fans that do that miss JDs real value, plus he just doesnt have enough dirt on the pants or pine tar in the helmet or dip in the lip for many boston fans, maybe he should dive at some uncatchable balls out in RF to endear him, because his OPS and OBP and stellar defense including that cannon of an arm, just arent good enough. ;)

I think this has a lot more potential than Bay/Holliday being signed this offseason. With the pitching and defense we have, and some clutch hits, we should definately take the wild card. I really dont expect a bat to be aquired this offseason, maybe at the deadline if the team looks flat, but we may be hoping that the pitching gets us through and maybe we get hot for the postseason. Next offseason however, I fully expect the holes in the lineup to be filled when we gain the flexibility after losing Ortiz and Lowell

The first world series team was a bunch of idiots. Bloody sock, cowboy up, plus the antics of Pedro, Ortiz and Manny, Damon's long hair etc. The 2007 team was like that too-- Remember what a riot the bullpen got to be by the end of that season? They haven't won a world series since they traded away Manny and Schilling retired.

You have to also understand that when you sign a big contract player, its not just about production. Its about how you can sell them. When Boras talked about how Manny's presence alone would sell tickets, he wasn't just trying to oversell-- big name players with strong characters sell tickets. Why do you think the Memphis Grizzlies picked up Allen Iverson when he clearly doesn't help the team any? J.D. Drew is a big contract player who generates very little interest whatsoever. Compare the production of J.D. Drew with Ortiz, and the next time you're at fenway compare the number of Drew Jersey's versus Ortiz ones.

Their argument is that Drew helps the team and that's all that should matter, and you can't really disagree with that. Personality does not contribute to wins/losses. But when it comes down to charisma, Drew just doesn't have it. And I dont think anyone would dispute that either

2/150!!!

That's true to a certain extent but I think Drew is starting to be hated a little less with his stellar (and healthy) 08 and 09 seasons, he may be no manny but he also isnt a cancer in the clubhouse, plus Manny is a first ballot HOFer and there are very few players who are a Manny and the Sox arent too worried about selling merchandise or tickets they have plenty of fans. And remember the more games you win the more money fans spend on tickets and merchandise so what Drew supposedly lacks in personality marketing he makes up for by helping to win games.

Drew is the kind of player that gets overshadowed quite a bit because he is not outspoken. Great Player. I love that catch he had in Yankee Stadium in the 15 inning game.

Here is what Sox should do.

1. make a 3 way trade, everything is better in 3's.

2. have the tigers and orioles involved.

3. trade as follows

Sox get: miggy cabrera

Orioles get: Clay Buchholz

Tigers get: Westmoreland, Reimold, other prospects from SOx/orioles.

get er done Theo

I don't know how down the O's would be with that, they have some decent pitching prospects, maybe not Buck caliber but I believe they have some that are close and I doubt they are willing to give up many of their prospects for a pitcher who has yet to have a succesful full season I don't see them being involved.

Yeah, I don't see that as very realistic at all. The Orioles have an absolutely loaded farm system, and I don't see why they would give up prospects to get Buchholz, of all people.
