look we all love Tek, we just all love Tek v2004, and unfortunately for him roster spots shouldnt be given on our affection for a player they should be given on performance, if we had a roster built with affection Ted Williams frozen head would be on the bench ready to PH when we needed it.

First of all, I think V-Mart offers much more. V-Tek is no good anymore (sorry to say).

Anyway, last year when the Sox signed Varitek, we all knew the end was near. Im just glad its going to end in a relatively respectful way...with Varitek taking a backup roll (for the playoffs and next season) as opposed to him leaving and signing on with a s***** team to be their starting catcher (see Carlton Fisk). The Fisk situation was sad.

 

Anyway, Im sure Varitek will retire as a Red Sox.

I think there is no way he is back next season. They wont pay more than veteran's minimum for a backup catcher who cant hit, run, throw, or even field lately. Memorizing scouting reports can only take him so far....enough is enough, he is terrible.

He is useless at the plate. He is having trouble blocking balls, and he couldn't throw out a one-legged runner. He only does 2 things well-- catch foul pops and block the plate.

You know who Tek is? Jake Taylor from Major League. Maybe he'll learn from Jake and just quit playing and become a coach. I wouldn't mind seeing him be an assistant coach for the Sox.

I have a hard time seeing a player who's made 50+ mill during his time as a player managing these days. It's not like he going to instantly start coaching in the big leagues. He's going to have to put his time in down in the minors somewhere without all the nice amenities he's accustomed to.

He let two balls get by him not too long ago that let runs score (can't remember what game exactly), but the point is, you can check "block the plate" off of the list because he has not perfected that either.

The Sox will get rid of him, regardless of what he decides to do with his player option. A 3 million dollar waste of a roster spot makes zero sense.

 

If he exercises the option, he will be released, and we will get a backup catcher, making league minimum, who can at least catch the ball, and throw out between 15-20% of base runners.

 

If Beckett or anyone else cry about his knowledge of batters or preparedness, I tell you this....you are making millions of dollars, pick up a f*cking scouting report yourself and read it, like Schilling used to do. He reads a fahkin scouting report, and people act like hes the messiah of all catchers. He sucks, hes useless, time to take ol' yeller out back of the barn.....
