  1. I cant tell if you all simply dont understand what Im saying or if you are just teasing me because Im new here. He began playing baseball in 1998 in Single A. Over his 12 years career, he only played about 77 games in the majors. He got caught using steroids in 2005 while in the minors. Fast forward to 2010 and he is playing alike an all star in the big leagues. All Im saying is that we shouldnt anoint him a "hero" or a savior of any sort. He dabbled with steroids in the past. Theres the possibility that he is dabbling with it again.
  2. so this wasnt posted to "start trouble" or get people mad. Yes, steroids in baseball is a sensitive subject, but its something I think is worth discussing.
  3. First and foremost, I am a die hard Red Sox fan. I posted this because I was devastated when we found out about Papi and Manny and I simply dont want to be duped again. In McDonalds first game with the Sox, he got the game tying and winning hits. He was the hero. Last night, he was responsible for the ONLY two Red Sox runs (he scored one and drove in the other). It seems like he is poised to be something special for this team. BUT when a 31 year old who has spent most of his career in the minors suddenly starts playing like an all-star (and has tested positive in the past) you cant help but wonder if he is back on....maybe as a last ditch effort to salvage a sorry career.
  4. I could write a 5,000 word reply to that. But Ill spare you and me because my blood pressure will go through the roof and you wont read 5,000 words.
  5. Lets not allow him to take us down the road that Papi did. We all fell in love with his heroics then learned aboutt he failed test. Lets not do it again! article: Before You Fall In Love With Darnell McDonald, Theres Something You Should Know
  6. I cant believe the Tigers GM had the gall to ask for either Buchholz or Ellsbury for Granderson. But hey, I guess ask high and then settle for low. Article here: Tigers wanted either Ellsbury or Buchholz for Granderson
  7. Ok, lets keep things stimulating....which name is harder to pronounce (out loud, not in your head) Seth Schwindenhammer, Jason Isringhausen or Ben Roethlisberger.
  8. On the soxprospects website, they list the pronunciation as ----- Looks like they gave up. haha
  9. Jarrod Saltalamacchia holds the record for longest name in MLB history but if Red Sox prospect Seth Schwindenhammer ever makes it to the big leagues he would take the cake. And his jersey would make Yastrzemski and Garciaparra jerseys look like a Jason Bay jersey. haha
  10. I definitely agree. He has been stellar. But he has had some bad starts.
  11. Thats like saying "if you take away 2004 and 2007 the Red Sox are a joke of an organization." It just doesnt make sense. If you are going to arbitrarily take away his two worst starts, then you must take away his two best starts. That would give us a better indication of what he REALLY is.
  12. I used to get the Globe delivered back in the 90s but canceled around 1998. I picked up a copy a few weeks ago and was stunned by how badly their sports section has gone down hill. Their sports page was about 4 pages long and boring and dry as all hell. The Heralds sports section blows them away. And Ive actually checked out the ESPNBoston site and I must say, its pretty good. Better NESNs site (which is where I used to go).
  13. T-Nez I assume is short for Martinez? Anyway, last year when the Sox signed Varitek, we all knew the end was near. Im just glad its going to end in a relatively respectful way...with Varitek taking a backup roll (for the playoffs and next season) as opposed to him leaving and signing on with a s***** team to be their starting catcher (see Carlton Fisk). The Fisk situation was sad. Anyway, Im sure Varitek will retire as a Red Sox.
  14. Eck is incredibly tacky but knowledgeable. Casey is just a blabber mouth. If I had to sit next to one of them at a game, Id sit next to Eck. Casey would put me to sleep.
  15. I didnt realize this board had so many young folks. I was 14 in 1990 and remember the 1990 Red Sox vividly. My family got NESN that year so we were able to watch home AND away games and thats when I REALLY got into the Sox. In case you young folks didnt know, back in the "old days" home games were on NESN and away games were on WSBK TV38. Anyway, thanks for all the "welcomes." This board seems to be very active.
  16. I wasnt trying to be funny with my original post. Im serious. I honesly have a hard time digesting the fact that people criticize Terry Francona. What were you people saying when Grady Little, Jimy Williams and Joe Kerrigan were at the helm of the Red Sox. Each of these managers had talented players (like Francona) and did nothing with them. They blew it. They couldnt turn those talented players into a cohesive team if they took a million smart pills. Those managers deserve all the venom of a thousand cobras. But Francona? My mind is blown right now.
  17. Im being sarcastic of course. Im a life long Sox fan (Im 32). Been going to Fenway Park since the 80s. Some of my most memorable Red Sox moments are from the obscurity of the mediocre teams in the late 80s early 90s. Like when Brunansky caught the ball and clinched the Sox a playoff birth in 1990. FYI, the ball was hit by none other than...Ozzie Guillen. And there is no video of him actually catching the ball. He sorta dissapeared...anyway Im gonna stop reminiscing with myself. I also run the blog m*******sports.com It allows me a place to spew some of these obscure memories and to vent about current Red Sox events.
  18. Players like playing for him, management has a love affair with him, he has won 2 World Series titles and has made the playoffs in 5 out of 6 years as Red Sox manager. The only thing stopping Terry Francona from being a saint in this town are those nit-picking, know-it-all types of fans who think they can do a better job than a manager who has won 2 World Series and only missed the playoffs once. Anyway, I dont see him going anywhere anytime soon. Not when you are the manager of a perennial playoff team...like Bobby Cox.
  19. Pap needs to watch the video "Who Moved My Cheese?" It a video that companies show employees to try and ease them into changes in the workplace. It explains how to deal with change. Pap is clearly oblivious to what MLB is trying to do...and he would rather repeatedly pay the fine than change. He just doesnt understand that theres a bigger picture...or maybe he just doesnt care. What a fine employee, huh? :what:
  20. Good. Papelbon has GOT TO LEARN. This is the second time hes been fined. It is players like him that are destroying the game. Its those long games that are turning viewers away. People attention spans are shorter now than theyve ever been and if I have to wait five minutes for him to stroll to the mound and take his warm ups then two minutes inbetween each pitch, Im either falling asleep or putting on Sportscenter.
  21. No one wanted Lowell in 2005 (when he was a throw in with the Beckett deal) and no one wants him now. On a side note, Youkilis is the BEST deal in the majors. He plays gold glove 1st base and gold glove 3rd base and is a perennial MVP candidate.
