  1. I'm sad to see him go. Despite his subpar year, I'd still consider him fairly consistent and at the least, a solid end of the rotation guy. He got so little run support this year, though I guess that could be said of every pitcher for the Sox. Like with David Wells, I wish him all the luck for his new title run.
  2. He pitched well for the Red Sox for long periods of time although, like a lot of other players, he's struggled this year. I hope a change of scenery does him some good, and we can wrap this up as a mutually beneficial trade.
  3. Thanks for all you've done, Jacoby. Now prepare for the Damon treatment.
  4. I always enjoy coming into these threads retrospectively and looking at people's reactions. Not that I wasn't among the people who assumed the Sox were going to get shut out again. Great game
  5. I didn't see the game (had Gameday only) but I have to ask if Workman is really a late innings kind of guy? He was solid as a starter where he can make mistakes and absorb some runs over 5-7 innings of work. Being a reliever is a different game. The bloops and bitch hits that other guys are talking about are a part of the game, but losing on a wild pitch really bites.
  6. Oh well. Blown save for Rivera, another huge knock for Middlebrooks and overall a series won for the Sox. Not shabby at all. Plus the Yankees have the dubious distinction of being the first team to lose 3 in a row while scoring 8+ runs in all three games.
  7. Awesome! This team is resilient
  8. Shane Victorino. Liked him ever since there was that video of Koji Uehara high-fiving guys and scaring Victorino.
  9. Lol fiddler crab. A bad play but that doesn't excuse the poor umpire call at all. Some guys think it's no consolation if the umpires admit a mistake but I appreciate it actually. Most NBA refs pretend they're always right and it drives me nuts.
  10. Is it a slump if your struggles have continued all season? After his 3-HR game against the Jays, Middlebrooks was hitting .300 or so. Is this the same guy that hit homers off the poles along 3B and 1B? I'd guess that even if he sucks all season at the plate, he will still be the 3B in 2014 but he will be on Youkilis-type watch (if someone outplays him, he'll be on a short leash) If Drew ends up hitting near .280 for the rest of the season, I could see him starting at SS next season. He would have to hit that well to justify taking a spot away from Iglesias.
  11. I think I understand how Yankees fans felt in 2004 when Rivera blew the save in game 4 and then let the Sox win 3 more
  12. I'm not giving up on him yet. If he does get traded, hopefully the Sox get a fair deal on him. Aceves' stock is low right now but I think he can re-gain his 2011 form. He can eat innings/play garbage time if you need. He's a decent spot starter/long relief pitcher and he now has closing experience. This last game was positively putrid but he's right about not getting any run support, plus his two outings prior to that were decent. Imagine what would have happened had he started in 2012 and Bard had closed.
  13. Cody Ross. The question asked specifically about outfield, so I ignored pitching even though it is a glaring weakness. The others have not proven they can play outfield for Boston like Ross has.
  14. I'm always curious when people say things like this. Are we speculating that if the opposing team's player fell on a Red Sox guy other than Ells, that Sox player wouldn't have missed time? Maybe we should chalk some things as just plain miserable luck
  15. Francona shouldn't have been fired either. That's my stance on it, and I don't think 2012 is on Valentine. It's a very consistent view point. It almost sounds to me like you're saying Bobby Valentine is responsible for all those things I mentioned. Lester and Beckett pitching badly. Aceves and Bailey blowing saves. Nobody on the team getting hits and scoring runs. You really can only do so much as a manager, and you have nothing to work with offensively and no one can get on base. I think management just scapegoated Bobby V. Sure he said stupid things, he fanned some fires. I won't deny these things. But now, with all the rebuilding the Sox have to do, they also have to get a new manager. It's going to be one mess of an offseason. Where have we seen them do this all before? Oh that's right, last ^@*!^#$(@&ing year
