Also, Frank's body didn't change that much, didn't look like a high school kid with all the acne, and didn't have a lot of injuries that other players of that era had, like muscle pulls and strains. Most of his injuries have been bone-related.

Ortiz statement: 'I am surprised to learn I tested positive'

Posted by David Lefort, Boston.com Staff July 30, 2009 05:34 PM

David Ortiz issued the following statement after the game:

Today I was informed by a reporter that I was on the 2003 list of MLB players to test positive for performance-enhancing substances. This happened right before our game, and the news blindsided me. I said I had no comment because I wanted to get to the bottom of this.

I want to talk about this situation and I will as soon as I have more answers. In the meantime I want to let you know how I am approaching this situation. One, I have already contacted the Players Association to confirm if this report is true. I have just been told that the report is true. Based on the way I have lived my life, I am surprised to learn I tested positive. Two, I will find out what I tested positive for. And, three, based on whatever I learn, I will share this information with my club and the public. You know me - I will not hide and I will not make excuses.

I want to thank my family, the Red Sox, my teammates, and the fans for their patience and support.

FAIL.

Just admit it, Ortiz. You've got an entire fanbase that is just BEGGING to forgive you for anything you've done to help the Sox win their firsat championship in 86 years. Unless you pulled an Urbina in a steroid rage situation, they will forgive you. All you gotta do is admit it and MOVE ON.

Agreed, when you've been caught with pants down the last thing you should do is say, "It's not what it looks like."

Maybe he's smart like McGwire' date=' juiced his whole career.[/quote']

McGwire didn't juice his whole career.

I've seen his rookie card and he was 1/3 the size he was when he retired.

I find it astounding that he had more HRs during his rookie year at age 23 than from age 24-31.

His head size hasn't grown over time' date=' unlike Bonds. It's always been the same. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But I'd stake my reputation on Thomas being clean. This is one of the problems of the steroid era. Clean players will forever be under suspicion. It's unfortunate for the minority of players who played the game the right way.[/quote']

I'm a troll for making a comment about Mark McGwire?

Jacko is the resident Yankee fan forum troll. Every move the Yankees make is shrewdly intelligent, every move the Red Sox make is un-wise and risky.

This is the first time since I've been here that HHM has posted, though I've seen him in archived threads.

That was the strike-shortened season. Chances are he would've regressed some had it been a full season. Again, you have no evidence to support your claim. There have been no whispers about Thomas. It must be a bitter pill to swallow that Big Papi is a phony, but don't project that onto other players who may or may not have juiced.

No' date=' you're a troll for making everybody who blindly defended BIG PAPI eat crow.[/quote']

:D I thought the worst thing that I said was making fun of Ortiz's statement.

Trolling dipshit, this entire f***ing generation is full of players who juiced who nobody would think they ever juiced. Playing the 'you're just mad about Ortiz' card because your boy (Thomas) is getting implicated by message board people (because his head, like Barry's, is the size of a CPU and the upstanding, nice guy act is one that has been bagged for steroids already, more than once) makes you look like a total f***.

The career progression argument is s***, because he could have very well been doing it is whole career. No one f***ing knows, but the recent nailings for steroids have opened for any and all speculation. Learn that.

I really don't see how I'm a trolling dipshit. Whatever. I've never liked you, JE. I've always been polite to you, even though you've consistently been an ass towards me. I seem to remember you saying not so long ago in a thread about me, "Epic fail. Among many." Or something along those lines. I ignored it then. I'm not ignoring it now. You can go f*** yourself, sir.

That's very cool. My mother grew up in Cherryfield, I spent summers there, and Cobscook Bay is one of my favorite places in the world.

Papi should have learned this from Andy Pettitte: admit to only what you have to, act humble and contrite, and all will be forgiven. Like many, I am over steroids although I continue to be disappointed if not surprised. But Papi needs to say this is how it happened and why, and throw himself upon the mercy of the court. Sox fans will embrace him like Yankee fans have embraced Pettitte.

The approach I take to guys like Frank Thomas whose fans feel are unfairly lumped in with those caught cheating is "too frigging bad". Alleged clean players like Thomas are as responsible for the steroids era as those who were caught cheating. I'm sure he knew what was going on, he shoulda come out and said something. He chose not to and stood by the union.

Reacting to speculation on your boy's steroid use by saying 'UR JUZT PISSD ABOWT 0RTEEZ!!' indeed makes you a trolling dipshit. As well as really whiny.

You mean this thread? The one where you were randomly rude to and insulted two people who didn't even talk to you, let alone warrant it? Okay Trolly McHypocrite.

Unfortunately, every time he or someone else did, they were shouted down by the Kool-Aid drinkers.

That wasn't my only reaction. I made coherent arguments. They all went through one ear and out the other.

Yeah, so what? There was nothing random about it. I was pissed about how some people were spinning Jacko's legacy. Who gives a flying f***? You took it as an opportunity to insult me. Who's the troll here?

Coherent =/= valid.

Oh. So when people aren't spitting on Jackson's grave (i.e. someone who had nothing to do with you), then its okay to launch the unwarranted insults that clash so horribly with your own personal code of conduct? Got it, champ.

And please tell me where 'one fail among many' somehow eclipses 'gary glitter says hello, douchebag' on the f***head scale.

Look it is what it is and that is it. I am so numb about this subject it's scarey. I love baseball, call it a character flaw, it is a game played for large money by humans who are prone to error. Papi made a mistake but baseball has historically been a sport with a ton of cheating. So we all knew what we were getting into by being baseball fans.

Forgive, Forget and trade for Halladay

How were my arguments not valid? Thomas is the only player who voluntarily spoke with George Mitchell. He did this, knowing full well the Union would disapprove. His head size has always been the same. He's been outspoken on the issue for a long, long time.

IMO, nothing I said in that thread was unwarranted. What I said was harsh, but hardly unwarranted. "One fail among many" implies I am a dumbass. It also seems like you've been harboring a grudge against me for awhile. You saw your opportunity to swoop in and you didn't hesitate.

Gary Glitter was a pedophile. Michael Jackson was, in all likelihood, also a pedophile. Why would anyone, in good conscience, defend what Jacko did to those children? Mitigating circumstances because he was abused by his father as a child? Or because he was the biggest pop star of all time? Doesn't hold much water for me.
