I like schillingouttheks. I would never take a cheap shot at him. If it came out wrong. I apoligize to him. I can relate to the statement myself as I don't need help gaining weight. The next time I'll just speak for myself.:D

Sorry. I am horizontally challenged as well!:D

I have to say that it doesn't take much for the Boston Press to show their true colors. They are always looking for an opportunity to tear some one up. This one was served up on a silver platter for them. I read the papers today' date=' and you would think that Ortiz kills babies. Is it any wonder why TeddyBallGame hated them so passionately or that Rice wouldn't give them the time of day. Even Yaz had to endure many years of their s*** until he outlasted most of them and it got to the point where it would have looked like elder abuse if they kept picking on him. To this day, you can tell from his comments that Shaughnessy (the biggest fraud of all with his manufactured Curse of the Bambino Malarkey) still resents Rice and would love to tear him up.[/quote']

Fantastic post.

From the Globe, Pedroia on Papi:

"I don't really know too much about it," Dustin Pedroia said. "[shoot], in 2003, I was in college hitting rockets there. I don't know [anything] about what was going on back then. Obviously David's our teammate, we love him. He's done everything in the world for me. We're here to support him."

I love Pedey!

So true, sadly.

Just got caught up on reading this thread, only because I am so tired of this talk that I wanted to get through the trade deadline first.

There aren't any words to describe this situation other than disappointment. Yeah, it's not surprising, but I find it hard to believe that people here weren't disappointed when this news came out yesterday. Sox fans were very quick to have a field day with the ARod and even the Pettitte stories, but I've heard a lot of "I'm just tired of this whole steroid thing - we should just move on." Didn't hear as much of it when it was the Yankees in the crosshairs.

Big Papi is dead. No matter how many home runs he hits for the Red Sox for the rest of his careers, it will simply be from David Ortiz.

It is disappointing. We want to believe our heroes are good honorable people. Unfortunately, most times that is not the case. They have no loyalty to any town or group of fans. Those days are over for good. Not only wouldn't they have a drink with a fan, they usually don't patronize any places where you would find regular fans. If you ran into one of them in a place, they would be likely not to say hello nor would they let you buy them a drink. Many of them view fans as schmucks. Are these generalizations? Yes, but they are more the rule than the exception. I too was disappointed at the news about Ortiz, despite the fact that I am more jaded than most. I felt bad for those fans who put him on a pedestal. When a hero falls off a pedestal, it leaves an emotional crater.

The owners, managers, players, players union and the press let the game get tainted in this terrible lasting way. Shame on all of them. They did it for the temporary popularity, adulation, economic profits through ticket sales, merchandise, advertising, and newspaper circulation. They irreparably sullied a game that it is our heritage. We can no longer compare stats of players across generations. We cannot trust in the integrity of any records or accomplishments in the last 20 years. More of them should suffer the Karma of the Wilpons who were swindled for $700 million. Screw them all. I root for the laundry, but I couldn't care less about the players or management. They have one primary goal, and it has nothing to do with community etc. Their singular focus is on picking the fans pockets clean.

You should really consider the fact that some of us simply don't give a f***.

I was one of the A-Rod detractors, and i'm not afraid to admit that it's simply because i don't like him, however, Petitte, and any other Yankee or whoever just doesn't interest me in the least. (Well except Pujols, i'll admit it).

Because the truth is this, almost everyone was juicing, and there's nothing we can do about it but move on.

The only reason i care about Pujols, to be honest, is to put some credibility back in the records (if he isn't using of course) otherwise, i don't care.

Steroids don't make or break a ballplayer, just ask Jorge Piedra and Jose Lima.

It's very, very easy to say "we don't give a f***" or "we're tired of the whole steroid mess". You weren't around here when the Pettitte story broke but I didn't hear anybody say "I'm tired of this mess" at that point. I didn't hear it during the ARod saga, and it can't just be because ARod is unlikeable. I find it to be hypocritical to hear Sox fans say they don't care about steroids now that one of their own has been implicated.

And for those who deem themselves baseball purists, ARod garnered a certain measure of respect before January's news hit. He was the guy who was supposed to validate the records, not Pujols.

Whether you like ARod or not he's guilty of the same infraction Ortiz is. In my mind, they're equals. Just because one guy is a metrosexual who bangs Madonna and the other is a guy with a goofy smile who loves mango salsa, is irrelevant. We mocked ARod for being fake, creating a persona that is not a real person. What is Big Papi, then?

The only difference between ARod and Ortiz is the jersey.

Neither will I. But gone are the days I cheer for David Ortiz, the player.

I think it's also unfair to assume everybody juiced. I would say it's probably more of a 50/50 or 60/40 split. There's players out there who never used, of this I am certain.

Which makes the news about Ortiz even more disappointing. He needs to come clean and admit his mistakes.

I still love the game, steroids were part of an era, and it's not something we can simply ignore.

To tell you the truth, the only player i have victimized for using is A-Rod, and i'll be the first to admit i did it because i hate his guts with the intensity of a thousand burning suns, but i lost no respect for Pettite, or Papi, Manny pissed me off even while he was with Boston, so he pisses me off even more now.

It has now been five days since this starling revelation. Ortiz said he would get some answers to questions and then speak to the media/fans.

So? What's cooking Big Papi? What is taking so long?

From the Globe:

Another day passed without a formal explanation from Ortiz, who was identified last week as having failed a test for performance-enhancing substances in 2003. Francona preached patience with regard to the matter and one source said that part of the reason for the delay involves the necessary paperwork and court proceedings in order for Ortiz to gain testing information that currently sits in the hands of the federal government.

"We need to stay patient and wait and that’s a hard ... we need to wait," Francona said, breaking off the thought. "I’ve talked to a lot of people and we need to wait. I don’t know if that's fun for anybody, but that’s what we need to do."

Posted
OK from that we learned that Ortiz is at least making a cursory effort to follow through. He's filed some paperwork. OK, if there's a mandatory waiting period, we wait.

Sure, we wait, but the pink hats must definitely be in a state of crisis.

What is the mystery ? Why doesn't he just come out and say that either did or did not take banned substances? I've seen the speculation that he may have taken some kind of andro laced supplements or shakes that may have given a positive result even though the andro was not on a list of banned substances. He was notified that he had a positive result. If he did not inject steroids , why not just come out and say that? Is he just trying to find out how much people actually know so he can spin an appropriate alibi?

After taking this long, he had better come out with something good one way or another.

Remember that we are talking about a possibly controlled substance or even an illegal one. I have no problem with letting Ortiz's lawyers go over the evidence BEFORE David opens his mouth on public TV over this.

Papi's already ahead of Rajah or McGwire, however. Instead of vehemently denying everything right off the bat he simply quietly went about a fact finding mission. If more guys had done that this might not have blown up in our faces quite this bad.

Lol i didn't mean you.

I meant we're waiting patiently, but fans who're just casual fans talk as though it's the end of the Sox franchise.

He doesnt need a fact finding mission. These guys know what they are on. I also dont think he has to worry about illegal drugs. A lot of these pro-steroids are legal over the counter supplements that metabolize to steroids. I went to GNC and was appalled as to what was in the supplement aisle
