I don't care either way. But for the sake of discussion, would it be crazy to think he stopped after 2003? I mean he must have been tested since. And he hasn't failed any tests since then that we know of.

I'm just saying.

he suspended himself for the first two months of the season

he should consider sending a large amount of money to the Jimmy Fund if he wants to get back in our good graces

That is a crazy thought, yes.

The only reason anyone has been caught is because a track coach got fired.

To be a spiteful prick, he sent a sample of a "designer" steroid to the USOC(?), and the fun started.

Thing is, they only have to make very minor changes to it and it won't be found in a drug test, but you still benefit.

Some more reading, you can buy some steroids tonight at your local GNC.:D

"...However, as long as these preparations remain undiscovered, new designer steroids are not screened for in routine sports doping or veterinary control urine tests since the established GC/MS and LC/MS/MS methods are set up for the monitoring of a few selected ions or MS/MS transitions of known substances only. In this study, the feasibility of androgen bioactivity testing and mass spectrometric identification is being investigated for trace analysis of designer steroids in urine..."

Papi's comments about Roid usage do make him look like a total douche. As much as I love him, I hope the media calls him on his ********. I'm over steroids. I'm willing to let it go. However, I'm not so forgiving for roid users who acted like saints, claiming they were clean and that Roid users should get banned.

When does Papi's contract expire?

Ah, Ted, but what if Henry Aaron was blessed with these wonder drugs?

The Babe was on pace to be a HOF player without even hitting a home run.

The numbers are the problem in baseball. The numbers are sacred, there is no other sport like it.

The club f***ed McDonough hard.

Ned Martin was the most often heard voice in the neighborhood btween April-October for so many years he was like a family member. It wasnt till 1975 that the Sox were on tv somewhat on a daily basis and even then Channel 38 only broadcast 100 or so games...Staring at a 6inch transistor radio was like going to church

An excellent perspective from a veteran fan.

I still do the radio thing. It's simple economics for me, $60 bucks a month for a TV plan I'll only use to watch Sox games or $15 a year for Gameday Audio and I can listen to any game I want to.

Right now, the only one I would be suprised about would be Frank Thomas.

I'm not saying that because I'm a White Sox fan. I'm saying it because his numbers never fluctuated that much.

I would also be surprised if Frank Thomas juiced. But not because his numbers didn't fluctuate. That's a ******** argument. Look at A-Rod.

Ortiz statement: 'I am surprised to learn I tested positive'

Posted by David Lefort, Boston.com Staff July 30, 2009 05:34 PM

David Ortiz issued the following statement after the game:

Today I was informed by a reporter that I was on the 2003 list of MLB players to test positive for performance-enhancing substances. This happened right before our game, and the news blindsided me. I said I had no comment because I wanted to get to the bottom of this.

I want to talk about this situation and I will as soon as I have more answers. In the meantime I want to let you know how I am approaching this situation. One, I have already contacted the Players Association to confirm if this report is true. I have just been told that the report is true. Based on the way I have lived my life, I am surprised to learn I tested positive. Two, I will find out what I tested positive for. And, three, based on whatever I learn, I will share this information with my club and the public. You know me - I will not hide and I will not make excuses.

I want to thank my family, the Red Sox, my teammates, and the fans for their patience and support.

Unless of course he didn't.

Are there kinds of steroids that can be given to a player without their permission or consent? The original story Ortiz prepared for when he got caught was that there was a kind of ingested steroid he might have been force-fed while still in the Dominican camps.

Unlike Ortiz, Thomas was always a great player.

He has always denounced steroids and called for testing (as far back as 2002, I believe). He chose to speak with George Mitchell about steroid use in MLB, one of two players to do so.

"For me, I’ve always been my own man. No one’s going to tell me not to talk to anyone, especially when I’ve got nothing to hide. … "There were a lot of guys who wanted to speak out," Thomas said. "I’m glad I did speak out, because if I didn’t I would’ve been on that list of 'Wouldn’t talk to George Mitchell.' That would’ve put a stain on my career and I’m not going to let anyone stain my career." … "It’s obvious now that there were a lot of guys involved with steroids and HGH. I’m shocked, because I played in that era and had to compete against it. But I’m shocked there were so many guys involved."

Doesn't matter, he could have been juicing his whole career.

So did Ortiz.

He chose to speak with George Mitchell about steroid use in MLB, one of two players to do so.

Rafael Palmeiro pointed a finger at Congress and emphatically denied using steroids. And proceeded to get blown out of the water 4 months later.

Thomas making buddies with Mitchell doesn't mean anything to me.

"For me, I’ve always been my own man. No one’s going to tell me not to talk to anyone, especially when I’ve got nothing to hide. … "There were a lot of guys who wanted to speak out," Thomas said. Palmeiro and Ortiz, among many others (hi Clemens) have said s*** among these exact same lines. Throw in Thomas's likely-unnaturally oversized head, and the fact that more and more unlikely candidates get busted all the time now, I don't buy Thomas for a second.

Not the lamest statement ever. Will be interesting after he gets all the info what he says.

His head size hasn't grown over time, unlike Bonds. It's always been the same. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But I'd stake my reputation on Thomas being clean. This is one of the problems of the steroid era. Clean players will forever be under suspicion. It's unfortunate for the minority of players who played the game the right way.

Maybe he's smart like McGwire, juiced his whole career.
