I wouldn't boo him but I'll never give him a standing ovation.

I still love the guy.

Steroids or not he's still an amazing hitter.

I just wish I remembered the thread...

It's probably in the one thread that first reported Ortiz might have taken PED's when he was younger in the Dominican.

You could have sunk to lower levels and really gone trolling here. The fact this is your response shows some restraint on your part.

Respect points for Gom

I actually feel sad for the game. Ortiz is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable faces in the game. Maybe it helped him hit a few more HRs but his big hits against my Yanks have been a lot of doubles and singles. I dunno, I suppose I should feel some sort of vindication since I always suspected him but it isn't a good day for baseball.

They need to just release this list and get it over with and baseball fans better hope that Pujols doesn't show up on that list.

I'm not mad at him. Will still cheer him on.

If he makes some lame excuse and doesn't come out and admit to some sort of wrong doing I will be more disappointed with him, then the actual failed test.

Didn't Manny state that he had passed all his prior drug tests? So' date=' now he is a liar too.[/quote']

They all are going to say that. Especially if they don't think their failed test is going to be made public. Not like he's going to say " I failed the one in 08, but just so you know it wasn't my first, I failed in 03 too".

Sports Guy touched on the possibility of this a couple months ago. Prophetic.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090507&sportCat=mlb

"And what about Big Papi?" he wonders. "Played for Minnesota, didn't hit for power, came to the Red Sox, turned into the best slugger in the league, and as soon as they cracked down on steroids, he stopped hitting homers again. And he was friends with all the other Dominican players who were linked to performance-enhancing drugs. What about him?"

Silence. Nobody says anything.

Finally, my dad steps in: "He had an inside-outside swing at Minnesota, when he came to Boston, we encouraged him to pull the ball, so ..."

"Come on, Gramps!" my son says. "That's dumb, and you know it."

We glance out to the field. Big Papi is one of Boston's coaches now. After he hit 54 homers in 2006, his career was over within four years. Now he's just a fat guy in his early 40s coaching first base. You would never guess this is the same guy who carried us in 2004, the guy who fueled the Greatest Comeback Ever, the guy who helped convince an entire fan base that, yes, we could believe.

Not surprised about either player, especially considering Manny was busted earlier this year. But I am really disappointed that Ortiz took performance enhancing drugs, I was hoping he was clean (although I doubted it). That being said, I would still give him a standing ovation.

Does Ortiz voluntarily take himself out for the next 100 games as per his prior statements regarding punishment for steroid usage? Something tells me that Ortiz sitting out is not as much of a heartache as it would have been in prior years.

lol probably not. Haven't seen you around lately btw... how's it goin?

Back to the thread... I want Ortiz to just admit it, own it, and move on. No more denial s***. Admit it, and we can all forgive and forget.

"I would suggest everybody get tested, not random, everybody," he said. "You go team by team. You test everybody three, four times a year and that's about it."

And if a player tests positive for steroids?

"Ban 'em for the whole year," the slugger said.

"I think you clean up the game by the testing," Ortiz said Monday. "I know that if I test positive by using any kind of substance, I know that I'm going to disrespect my family, the game, the fans and everybody, and I don't want to be facing that situation.

"So what would I do? I won't use it, and I'm pretty sure that everybody is on the same page," he said.

"I don't have to prove nothing here," he said. "I have done it all here. I'm just going to try to maintain myself healthy and just let people know that they were wrong."

Here is what I believe. Ortiz made a career due to steroids. He was a s***** hitter in Minnesota, then went to Boston, a haven of steroid users [just like New York, both teams]. He's nearly cut by the Sox, does steroids, becomes Superman.

Bonds, Manny, and Arod were great hitters before roids. McGwire, Sosa, and Palmeiro were good players who became great because of roids. Ortiz was a s***** player who became great after roids.

No matter what, it is a sad day for baseball. One of the all-around "good" guys got busted.

I tell you...the only three guys I would be shocked about that involves our teams are Mo, Jeter and Varitek. Mo, because..well, he doesn't have the frame, his religious convictions, and he's my favorite player. Jeter and Tek because I hold our respective team captains to a higher standard and I don't believe they would demean their positions [i hate the Red Sox, but I respect them as a team and an organization, along with their history and tradition].

Ortiz is a fraud, always was and always will be. Same thing with all steroid users, my team players as well. Do I root for Arod? Yes. Do I root for him as hard as I used to after his admission? No.

f*** Ortiz.

f*** them all.

I'm good, my former employer blocked talksox.com after it showed up as one fo the top 10 websites in terms of click traffic for the New York office. Since I was recently let go by them, I now am no longer bound by their rules :D

Agreed with you on the response, hopefully he does not go the Bonds or Clemens routine. Admit it and move on. Maybe it will even help him with his hitting at this point. Could it be possible that this things been weighing on his mind lately, thus affecting his performance?

The problem with that theory is timing, Gom. Even with steroids the strength doesn't come overnight. it takes a long term consistent use of steroids or HGH to get a significant benefit. That's why I can't believe people like A-rod when they said they only did it a little. You don't do steroids just a little.

I love Big Papi but if I had to count the things weighing him down, his mind would be low on the list.

Actually I think Tek's name has been mentioned by several Sox fans in the past as someone who could possibly be on the juice.

Agreed on Mo and Jetes, it would be pretty devastating for me if one of their names showed up on the list.

Yankee fans expecting a big blowup over this are going to be disappointed. I think we always sort of had a hunch that he might have done steroids or HGH or something during his peak years of 2003-2007.

There are only two members of the 2004 team who would kill me if they ever tested positive. One is Pedro. The other is Schilling. Everyone else, you just shrug your shoulders and say that's the era it was.

I have my suspicions about Bernie's partial comeback in '06 for that matter.

Same here.

And for HeHateMe, did Arod take himself out?

Whatever side your on there is this. In 2003 they weren't breaking any Baseball rules I believe. I believe they were breaking some federal law or something. But they weren't killing people of Dogs or whatever. They took something to get stronger(whatever it does) thats it.

To me this is little more then getting busted with weed. I don't worry about the "on the field" results being skewed or whatever. And if your not worried about that, then all this steroid crap doesn't seem so big.
