But wait.

The NL and the AL are equal right?

Lol Pedro wouldn't throw 6 IP in the AL to the Royals.

Just sayin'.

I dont think he would either but you never know, he has actually pitched in the AL before, where as Penny and Smoltz were both far more familiar with the NL where they usually had atleast the pitchers spot in the lineup to breathe whereas Pedro has pitched in the AL against very complete and agressive lineups.

Well yeah, but that was Pedro in his prime. I think what Dipre meant was the Pedro of '09, which is definitely enjoying what the NL has (or lacks) to offer.

I realize this but I think that Pedro would do better in the AL than Penny or Smoltz did, obviously he wouldnt do as well but there arent many pitchers who would do better in the AL east than they were in ANY division in the NL.

@Dipre

Well, if there was no disrespect intended and I misread the thrust of your remarks, for that I will apologize. It happens.

I'm fairly sure I've never said the AL/NL are actually completely equal, nor claimed that differing rules absolutely could NOT effect something, or anything else of an absolute nature. I tried to use careful wording that I don't understand why/don't see the hard data for some of the popular fan beliefs about the two leagues. I've also stated many times since I've been here that I have not been a big stat person. ie, give me the statistical reasoning for those beliefs, rather than an "everyone else says so".

If you/anyone can back something up, why not do so, rather than just saying you can? If you can, please do...as I stated before, I'm interested in such "backing up" - links, articles, whatever. (I haven't checked the other thread to see if you already have there, recently). I can of course do some research on my own, and have been trying to do so, but I'm also interested in what other people believe/find to be proof of their beliefs.

And I in no way feel "victimized" - only irritation & frustration at feeling like my remarks/opinions are not being understood & misinterpreted, and I chose to express it instead of remain silent. This doesn't, in my book, equal "poor me." It's simply frustration at my seeming inability to communicate w/those who discuss in a casual/harsh style I'm not very good with...and probably a sign that I need to get away from the internet for a while again. :P

He can be very effective at that velocity.

Watch the phillies recap of Pedro on phillies.com, he looked very, very good last night. It reminded me of what we got from him when he was going good in 2004, with slightly less velocity. If Pedro can be 90-91, he is going to be a strong asset for the Phillies down the stretch and in the playoffs.

Not in the AL East he can't.

Not that he wouldn't get outs, but he wouldn't own like he owned the Giants last night.

I don't think he was throwing much harder than that in his last year with the Red Sox.

He was cracking 91 consistently in 2004, and could dial it up to 94.

speed isn't everything

its location

If Pedro can locate and have his change up working he'll still be a good pitcher

however I'm not sold on one game , we'll have to see how he does the rest of the year

I realy do hope he does great

But for a starting pitcher, it's also stamina.

And that's what Pedro's lacking the most at this point in his career.

Does Pedro start a playoff game this year? He's been good' date=' but I think I'd take Lee-Hamels-Blanton-Happ.[/quote']

it depends on how he does the remainder of the season

if he does so so then I'd go with the 4 above but if he does like he did lastnight the rest of the year you'd have to put him there

Pedro came out to pitch the 8th inning after 107 pitches. He K'd Wright on 5 filthy pitches to lead off the inning. The ump squeezed him on two of those pitches. Ump squeezed him on 2-2 pitch to Beltran too. He's up over 120 pitches and just threw a changeup where the bottom dropped out to Murphy. He hit 91 on his 125th pitch. Murphy doubled. Manuel visited the mound and left Pedro in after 128 pitches. He's looking good. Murphy just got thrown out at 3rd for the last out. 8 shutout innings. Wow!
