our defense has been the problem tonight...not Clay Buchholz

JD Drew took an interesting route to that fly ball

Dude, I know you have a hardon for Clay, but he's pitched "OK" at best.

He just gave up a 360+ foot flyball - to the opposite field - to Rob Quinlan. That shouldn't happen.

Key component? Please stop. He's the backup MIF. The backup MIF's job is to be a good defender. Cora is, but only on the balls hit within his drunken slug range. He's a statue out there. The fact that he can occaisionally get on base is nice, but what's the point if he can't do his primary job?

Give me a break. So as a backup IF, if he hits .150 but is outstanding defensively, that's all that matters? Besides, he's not as poor defensively as you are are making him out to be. He has a career .983 fielding %. Furthermore, he proved to us last year how clutch he can be at the plate. And yes, he is a key component. As in, when Lugo gets injured, I know I can count on Cora to step in and do the job.

Dude.

Dude.

There are so many things wrong with this post I don't know where to start.

You are blaming the pitcher for a flyball?

His line is about to be destroyed now that Craig Hansen is in...but he threw strikes and retired the first 7 players he faced and had Mike Lowell not made a rare error and we had a SS that could field....he would have had a very good game. It's baseball sometimes no matter how well you play it doesn't show.

That ball was hit very well. So was the 2 run shot to Anderson.

It's probably his best start since coming back...but that's not really saying much. I'm OK with him developing this year because I don't think the Sox are going anywhere.

I'd call it better than "OK". His big mistake was the cookie to Anderson. Quinlan's triple was on slider on the black outside and was the result of a seriously goofy looking swing - I'm skeptical he could repeat that result given 10 tries. Other than that, the other problems have been the result of Cora and his cement shoes.

You're right, Kilo. Let's just say Cora sucks. Who cares that he drove in the winning run against the Blue Jays and the Yankees in consecutive days last year? He's a P.O.S., trade him. It doesn't matter that he had a .985 fielding percentage at SS/2B for us last year with just four errors in 260 chances. He sucks defensively. You guys are right. Get rid of him.

Driving in winning runs is nice and all, but you can't judge a player based on that. Also, again, F% is a pretty bad stat for fielding.

This sucks. I'm not very positive about this team at all right now. We need to get rid of Buchholz' date=' he isn't getting his s*** together.[/quote']He's a child. He should be pitching out of the bullpen while learning his craft. Instead the FO has handed him a rotation spot, because they won last year.

OK, let's say Alex Cora sucks just so we can agree on something for once.

First. Who cares what Alex Cora did in a two game sample last year? How does that help the Red Sox going forward?

Second. Fielding percentage is one of the worst stats you can use when judging a fielder's worth. They only account for the balls the fielder actually gets to. Since Cora has no range, he gets to fewer balls. More balls that get through for hits = more runs (like the last play for example...Cora didn't charge the ball and cost the Sox a run).

Third. I don't think you can trade Alex Cora because he sucks so bad.

What is it with you guys??? We have ZERO HITS!!!! How do you blame ANY pitcher right now.....

They either have to get Colon back on the mound taking a regular turn or go get a stopgap if they care about winning this season.

That might be our only chance at a hit on Ortiz' blast.

That's why they spent $8 million on Schilling, right?

How exactly does driving in a game winning RBI help the team this year? No really, your defense of a player is based on something he did 12 months from now. Do we need to wait another 12 to get something else we can hang our hat on?

His F% is usually good. This is no surprise, he's a vet with sure hands. The much more important and impactful aspect of MIF defense is getting to the ball. Cora can't do that any more. Since Lugo has been out and Cora has been playing more, have you noticed how much he's been diving to try and stop the ball? A player with competent range makes that play on his feet routinely.

Trade him? Not possible. There'd be no takers.
